Michigan Technological University

The College Club House and Gymnasium is an educational building located at 1416 College Avenue on the campus of Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan. It is also known as R.O.T.C. Building. The building is the oldest existing building on Michigan Tech's campus, and it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

The Memorial Union Building (MUB) is a multipurpose building on the campus of Michigan Tech. It was completed in 1952. Originally constructed to facilitate the needs of 1,169 students, the MUB was renovated in 1987 to accommodate a large increase in enrollment. The building is used for many things, including as a lounge, cafeteria, dining area, bookstore, and contains conference rooms, student organization offices, and game rooms.

The Ransom B. Shelden House is a private house located at 1304 College Avenue in Houghton, Michigan. It is currently used as the Tau Kappa Epsilon (ΤΚΕ) Fraternity House. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

The John J. Michels House is a private house located at 1121 E. Houghton Avenue in Houghton, Michigan. It was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1989 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

Ripley is a small, unincorporated community in Franklin Township situated upon a slope, just east of Hancock on M-26 and across the Portage Lake Canal from Houghton. A ski resort called Mont Ripley is located in Ripley. The now-closed Quincy Smelting Works, formerly operated by the Quincy Mine, is also located in Ripley.

John J. MacInnes Student Ice Arena is a 4,200-capacity hockey arena in Houghton, Michigan. It is home to the Michigan Tech Huskies men's ice hockey team. It is named for John J. MacInnes, head coach of the Huskies from 1956 to 1983, who was one of the most successful coaches in the history of college hockey with a record of 555-295-39. In addition to hockey, the arena is used for Spring Commencement ceremonies. The arena's original Wurlitzer organ was used during the Commencement ceremonies, until it was removed during the 2009 renovations. In 2008, the original wooden seats were replaced with plastic seats. Renovations continued in 2009 with the addition of twelve private suites at the west end of the arena. An office renovated in 2010 became the thirteenth suite. The design for the renovations were completed by the renowned architecture firm Rossetti Architects, a Michigan-based company. The ten smaller center suites are leased by the season, and the larger three corner suites are game-by-game rentals. In 2013, the center-hung fixed digit scoreboard was replaced with a new Mitsubishi Electric video scoreboard featuring four 14-foot by 8-foot LED video screens.

The A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum, currently located on the campus of Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan, is the official mineral museum of the state of Michigan and is a heritage site of the Keweenaw National Historical Park. The museum is named for professor Arthur Edmund Seaman, who worked at Michigan Tech in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and was the museum's curator from 1928 until 1937.The mineral collection was established in the 19th century, and by 1890 numbered 27,000 specimens. The museum currently houses over 25,000 specimens from around the world. Many of these specimens are native generally to Michigan, and more specifically to the Lake Superior region. The Copper Pavilion just outside is home to the Guinness World Record holder for largest boulder of copper weighing 19 tons and pulled from the bottom of Lake Superior.

Sherman Field at Kearly Stadium is a football stadium on the campus of Michigan Technological University, in Houghton, Michigan. It is the home of the Michigan Tech Huskies NCAA football team and the soccer team. It regularly seats 3,000 fans. The surface of the field was grass until 2008, when MTU announced that turf was being installed.The field is named in honor of the late Donald P. Sherman, a former athletic director and coach at Michigan Tech. Sherman first arrived in 1929 at what was then known as the Michigan College of Mining and Technology. His first duties involved serving as the basketball coach and assistant athletic director. Sherman became athletic director in 1936 and was made a full professor of economics in 1943. Besides strengthening the four major varsity sports (hockey, football, basketball, and track), he also added three other sports (boxing, tennis, and skiing) to the Huskies’ athletic program. Sherman was also credited with initiating and developing Michigan Tech's first intramural sports program. His untimely death in 1946 from a heart attack after playing handball came as a great shock to the school and local community.Sherman Field's largest crowd came on the first-ever night football game on September 29, 2012, against Grand Valley State. The 4,684 fans set a new Sherman Field record and also a record for the largest crowd at a home Michigan Tech sporting event. In August 2018, Tech athletics completed phase one of the stadium project, which includes new bleacher seating for 2,100 fans and accessible parking along with concrete for the VIP Pavilion. Michigan Tech completed phase two that included an expanded press box, coaching boxes, additional bleachers, restrooms, and concessions in 2021. The current accommodations were completed in 1989. For 2019, the facility was renamed Sherman Field at Kearly Stadium in honor of former coaches Ted and Tom Kearly (2006–19). Ted Kearly was the head coach from 1969 to 1972, compiling an overall record of 29–7, including three consecutive 8–1 seasons and three NIC Championships in four seasons. His son, Tom, was Tech's head coach for 11 seasons, spanning the 2006 through 2016 campaigns, and his career record stands at 70–44, with his winning percentage of .614 is the second highest in program history. Kearly guided the Huskies to a 9–2 overall record and the NCAA Playoffs in 2014. In 2012, Kearly led Tech to a 7–3 record and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division title. On September 28, 2019, it was officially dedicated in a pregame ceremony of the season's home opener and homecoming game against Grand Valley State University.

Houghton (; HOH-tən) is the largest city and county seat of Houghton County in the U.S. state of Michigan. Located on the Keweenaw Peninsula, Houghton is the largest city in the Copper Country region. It is the fifth-largest city in the Upper Peninsula, with a population of 8,386 at the 2020 census. Houghton is the principal city of the Houghton micropolitan area, which includes all of Houghton and Keweenaw counties. Houghton lies upon the Keweenaw Waterway, a partly natural, partly artificial waterway connecting at both ends to Lake Superior. Across the waterway from Houghton lies the city of Hancock. The city of Houghton was named for Douglass Houghton, an American geologist and physician, primarily known for his exploration of the Keweenaw Peninsula. Houghton is home to Michigan Technological University, a public research college founded in 1885. Michigan Tech hosts a yearly Winter Carnival in February, drawing thousands of visitors from around the world. Michigan Tech's athletic teams are nicknamed the Huskies, and compete primarily in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Michigan Tech Huskies men's ice hockey team competes in the NCAA Division I Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA), and has won three national championships, in 1962, 1965, and 1975.

Pryor's Location is situated on the Portage Lake Shipping Canal in Michigan, United States. Very little remains of this small settlement but a sign at the intersection of Lake Avenue and Lakeshore Drive in Houghton, Michigan, into which it has been incorporated. It is named after James Pryor, owner of Pryor Lumber and other businesses in the area. Pryor Lumber was purchased by Albert W. Quandt and Edward A. Hamar in 1925 and renamed it the Hamar Quandt Company. The Hamar Quandt Company operated in this location until approximately 1985. The Hamar Quandt Company has been renamed 41 Lumber. The site of the lumber business is now the Houghton Super-8 Motel. In the Copper Country of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, a 'location' is a small settlement with few if any businesses. Locations were generally inhabited by miners, people with mining-related jobs such as running the smelters, and their families.

Mont Ripley is a ski hill located in Franklin Township, Houghton County, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The site is just outside the cities of Hancock and Houghton. It is owned by Michigan Technological University. It was founded in the early 1900s by Fred Pabst Jr. (and managed by Fred Lonsdorf). With the addition of snow making in 2000, the season has been extended from late November to late March or early April. Mont Ripley is known for its challenging terrain and views of Houghton, Portage Lake and the Huron Mountains. It is also commonly used by racers.

Saint Ignatius Loyola Church is a church located at 703 East Houghton Avenue in Houghton, Michigan. The church was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1977 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.
