Battle of Chantilly

Ox Hill Battlefield Park is a site in Fairfax, Virginia, where the Battle of Ox Hill (Union name Battle of Chantilly) was fought during the American Civil War. It was the only major battle of the war fought in Fairfax County. The battlefield is now a public park adjacent to suburban developments and the Fairfax Towne Center shopping center, and is maintained by the Fairfax County Park Authority. The most prominent feature is a pair of monuments to the two Union generals killed during the battle, Isaac Stevens and Philip Kearny. Stevens was fatally shot within the area of the present-day park while Kearny was killed just to the west. There are also two Virginia historical markers placed near the park entrance commemorating the battle and aftermath. The park is located at 4134 West Ox Road, in Fair Lakes near Route 50, on the corner of West Ox Road (State Route 608) and Monument Drive (which was presumably named for the Kearny and Stevens memorial). It is only 4.8 acres (0.019 km2), about 1.5% of the roughly 300 acres (1.2 km2) where the battle was fought. The rest of the battlefield has been developed with apartments, office buildings, and similar urban construction. Nevertheless, the remaining plot does hold important portions of the battle area.

WKDV is a Regional Mexican formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Chantilly, Virginia, serving Northern Virginia. WKDV is owned and operated by Metro Radio, Inc. The station was silent for most of the period from December 2020 to March 2022, after the 11-acre (4.5 ha) site in Manassas, Virginia, which had hosted the broadcast towers since the 1960s was sold. It has since moved to a new tower in Fair Lakes, Virginia.

Fair Oaks is a census-designated place in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. The population as of the 2010 census was 30,223. It encompasses a large area west of the city of Fairfax, centered on Fair Oaks Mall. Suburban neighborhoods and office parks occupy most of Fair Oaks, largely developed since the 1980s. The Fair Oaks CDP is bordered by Fair Lakes and Greenbriar to the west, and by Oakton and Fairfax city to the east. The Fair Oaks Mall is at the center of the CDP, in the angle formed by U.S. Route 50 to the northeast and Interstate 66 to the south, which intersect at I-66's Exit 57. I-66 leads east 19 miles (31 km) to Washington, D.C., and west 61 miles (98 km) to Strasburg, Virginia. U.S. 50 leads east into Fairfax and Washington and northwest 53 miles (85 km) to Winchester, Virginia. U.S. Route 29 forms the southern border of the CDP, leading east into Fairfax and Washington and west 17 miles (27 km) to Gainesville. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Fair Oaks CDP has a total area of 5.1 square miles (13.1 km2), of which 5.0 square miles (13.0 km2) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km2), or 0.99%, is water.

Fair Oaks Mall is a shopping mall in the Fair Oaks census-designated place (CDP) of unincorporated Fairfax County, Virginia, just northwest of the independent city of Fairfax. It is located at the intersection of Interstate 66 and U.S. Route 50. The mall has a gross leasable area (GLA) of 1,557,000 sq ft (144,700 m2). The mall features the traditional retailers Macy's, Macy's Furniture Gallery, JCPenney, Dick's Sporting Goods and Dave & Buster's. The mall also features prominent specialty retailers such as Apple, MAC Cosmetics, Ardene, Pottery Barn, Miniso, Windsor, Sephora, and Williams Sonoma.

Fair Lakes is a census-designated place (CDP) and business park located west of Fairfax in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. Fair Lakes had a population of 7,942 in 2010.

Other attractions include portions of the Appalachian Trail, Great Falls Park, Old Town Alexandria, Prince William Forest Park, and portions of Shenandoah National Park.

Navy is a census designated place in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States.It first appeared as a CDP in the 2020 Census with a population of 4,327.

Greenbriar is a census-designated place in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. The population as of the 2010 census was 8,166. The community between Fairfax City and Chantilly dates from the late 1960s, when it was developed by Levitt & Sons. The community is famous for having only one road within its territory that does not start with an "M" or "P", which is Acorn Hill (added in 1994 with the addition of five mansions to the community). A popular (but not proven) belief is that the roads were named after the architect's two children. One drawback for residents of the community is that with nearly identical sounding named roads (for example, Mayport and Maylock) in such close proximity to each other and house numbers being the same, the US Postal Service along with UPS and FedEx sometimes deliver items to the wrong house.

Vale School-Community House is a historic two-room school located near Oakton, Fairfax County, Virginia. It was built about 1884, and expanded with a second room in 1912. It is a one-story, two-room, wood-frame building on a stone and concrete foundation. It has a gable front with overhanging eaves, and topped by a belfry with its school bell. Also on the property is a contributing a well built in 1951 and the former location of a privy constructed in 1884. The school closed in 1931, and was reopened as a Community House by the Vale Home Demonstration Club in 1935.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

Chantilly is a census-designated place (CDP) in western Fairfax County, Virginia. The population was 24,301 as of the 2020 census. Chantilly is named after an early-19th-century mansion and farm, which in turn took the name of an 18th-century plantation that was located in Westmoreland County, Virginia. The name "Chantilly" originated in France with the Château de Chantilly, about 28 miles north of Paris. Located in the Northern Virginia portion of the Washington metropolitan area, Chantilly sits approximately 25 miles (40 km) west of Washington, D.C., via Interstate 66 and U.S. Route 50. It is located between Centreville to the south, Herndon and Reston to the north and northeast, respectively, and Fairfax 7 miles (11 km) to the southeast. U.S. Route 50 and Virginia State Route 28 intersect in Chantilly, and these highways provide access to the Dulles/Reston/Tysons Corner technology corridor and other major employment centers in Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.

The National Rifle Association of America (NRA) is a gun rights advocacy group based in the United States. Founded in 1871 to advance rifle marksmanship, the modern NRA has become a prominent gun rights lobbying organization while continuing to teach firearm safety and competency. The organization also publishes several magazines and sponsors competitive marksmanship events. According to the NRA, it had nearly 5 million members as of December 2018, though that figure has not been independently confirmed.The NRA is among the most influential advocacy groups in U.S. politics. The NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) is its lobbying division, which manages its political action committee (PAC), the Political Victory Fund (PVF). Over its history, the organization has influenced legislation, participated in or initiated lawsuits, and endorsed or opposed various candidates at local, state, and federal levels. Some notable lobbying efforts by the NRA-ILA are the Firearm Owners Protection Act, which lessened restrictions of the Gun Control Act of 1968, and the Dickey Amendment, which blocks the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from using federal funds to advocate for gun control. Starting in the mid-to-late 1970s, the NRA has been increasingly criticized by gun control and gun rights advocacy groups, political commentators, and politicians. This criticism began following changes in the NRA's organizational policies, following what is now referred to as the Revolt at Cincinnati at the 1977 NRA annual convention. The changes, which deposed former NRA executive vice president Maxwell Rich and included new organizational bylaws, have been described as moving the organization away from its previous focusses of "hunting, conservation, and marksmanship" and toward a focus on the defense of the right to bear arms. The organization has been the focus of intense criticism in the aftermath of high-profile shootings, such as the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting and the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, after which they suggested adding armed security guards to schools.
