Nakagami (中頭郡, Nakagami-gun, Okinawan: Nakajan) is a district located in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. As of 2003, the district has an estimated population of 169,332 and the density of 1,216.03 persons per km2. The total area is 139.25 km2.

The Okinawa Islands (沖縄諸島, Okinawa Shotō, or 沖縄群島, Okinawa Guntō) are an island group in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan and are the principal island group of the prefecture. The Okinawa Islands are part of the larger Ryukyu Islands group and are located between the Amami Islands of Kagoshima Prefecture to the northeast and the Sakishima Islands of Okinawa Prefecture to the southwest.The Okinawa Islands, apart from the main island, contain three smaller island groups: the Kerama, Yokatsu and Iheya-Izena island groups.The Okinawa Islands are the political, cultural and population center of Okinawa Prefecture. The prefectural capital of Naha is within the island group. 90% of the population of the prefecture reside within the Okinawa Islands, primarily on the largest island of the group, Okinawa Island. Access to the various Okinawa Islands is primarily via small airports which connect to Naha Airport. Additionally, the islands are connected via ferry service to the Port of Naha in the prefectural capital.The Okinawa Islands are within the subtropical climate zone, which supports the production of sugarcane, pineapples and cut flowers. The military bases of the United States in Okinawa Prefecture are located on the Okinawa Islands.Historically the rule of the Ryukyu Kingdom, centered on Okinawa Island, consolidated the Okinawa Islands before spreading south to the Miyako and Yaeyama Islands and north to Amami Ōshima.

Kubasaki High School (クバサキ高校, Kubasaki Kōkō) is a United States Department of Defense Dependents School on Okinawa. Kubasaki is the second oldest operating high school in the Department of Defense Dependents Schools system. Only W.T. Sampson High School (1931) at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba is older.

Kadena High School (カデナ高校, Kadena Kōkō) is an American high school located at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa City, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, and is administered by the Department of Defense Education Activity. Opened in 1981, the school is for English-speaking American military subordinates. It is run under the supervision of the Okinawa Department of Defense Dependents Schools District.

The Okinawa Arena, also provisionally known as the Okinawa City Multi-Purpose Arena, is an indoor arena in Okinawa, Japan. It was opened in 2021 and is one of the venues of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Camp Foster, formerly known as Camp Zukeran (Japanese: キャンプ・フォスター), is a United States Marine Corps camp located in Ginowan City with portions overlapping into Okinawa City, Chatan town and Kitanakagusuku village in the Japanese prefecture of Okinawa Island. It is part of the Marine Corps Base Camp Smedley D. Butler complex.

The 1996 Padilla car crash was a notorious incident that occurred in Okinawa, Japan on 7 January 1996. Lori Padilla, a member of the United States Marine Corps in Okinawa, was speeding in a car which swerved off the road, killing Rojita Kinjo and her young daughters Mitsuko and Mariko. The crash sparked outrage in Okinawa and strengthened opposition to the American presence in Japan, occurring only months after the 1995 Okinawan rape incident.

Okinawa City Gymnasium is an arena in Okinawa, Okinawa, Japan. It is the home arena of the Ryukyu Golden Kings of the B.League, Japan's professional basketball league.

Okinawa City Stadium (沖縄市陸上競技場) is an athletic stadium in Okinawa, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. It is one of the home stadium of football club FC Ryukyu. It has a seating capacity of 13,400.

Marine Corps Base Camp Smedley D. Butler (or simply Butler Marine Base) is a United States Marine Corps base located in the Japanese prefecture of Okinawa. It was named after Marine Corps Major General and twice Medal of Honor recipient Smedley D. Butler.

Kadena Air Base (嘉手納飛行場, Kadena Hikōjō) (IATA: DNA, ICAO: RODN) is a United States Air Force base in the towns of Kadena and Chatan and the city of Okinawa, in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. It is often referred to as the "Keystone of the Pacific" because of its highly strategic location. It is located 650 km (400 mi) off the coast of China and at a distance of 770 km (480 mi) from Shanghai, a major economic hub. It is home to the USAF's 18th Wing, the 353rd Special Operations Wing, reconnaissance units, 1st Battalion, 1st Air Defense Artillery Regiment, and a variety of associated units. Over 20,000 American servicemembers, family members, and Japanese employees live or work at Kadena Air Base. It is the largest and most active U.S. Air Force base in East Asia.

Kitanakagusuku (北中城村, Kitanakagusuku-son, Okinawan: キタナカグシク, romanized: Kitanakagushiku) is a village located in Nakagami District, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. As of 2016, the village has an estimated population of 16,040 and the density of 1,400 persons per km². The total area is 11.53 km². It is home to Nakagusuku Castle and the Nakagusuku Hotel ruins. The village has quite a few centenarians.
