The Polybahn, also known as the UBS Polybahn, is a funicular railway in the city of Zürich, Switzerland. The line links the Central square with the terrace by the main building of ETH Zürich, which was formerly called Eidgenössisches Polytechnikum, and from which the railway derives its name. Previous names for the line include the SBG Polybahn and the Zürichbergbahn. The line is owned by the banking group UBS AG, and operated on their behalf by the municipal transport operator Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich.The Polybahn is one of two funiculars within the city of Zürich, the other being the Rigiblick funicular in the city's northern suburbs. Additionally, the city's Dolderbahn rack railway was originally a funicular, until its conversion to rack working in the 1970s.

The Pestalozzi-Bibliothek Zürich (PBZ) is the public library of the City of Zürich, Switzerland. It operates a total of 14 branches. The PBZ financed primarily through contributions from the city government, with a small contribution from the cantonal government.The library traces its founding to 1896 with the Pestalozzi Society, named for the educator born in Zürich and advancing his ideals. As of 2020, the PBZ system attracts about one million visits annually.

Zürich Hauptbahnhof (often shortened to Zürich HB, or just HB; Zürich Main Station or Zürich Central Station) is the largest railway station in Switzerland. Zürich is a major railway hub, with services to and from across Switzerland and neighbouring countries such as Germany, Italy, Austria, and France. The station was originally constructed as the terminus of the Spanisch Brötli Bahn, the first railway built completely within Switzerland. Serving up to 2,915 trains per day, Zürich HB is one of the busiest railway stations in the world. It was ranked as the second best European railway station in 2020.The station can be found at the northern end of the Altstadt, or old town, in central Zürich, near the confluence of the rivers Limmat and Sihl. The station is on several levels, with platforms both at ground and below ground level, and tied together by underground passages and the ShopVille shopping mall. The Sihl passes through the station in a tunnel with railway tracks both above and below. The station's railway yards extend about 4 km (2.5 mi) to the west. The station is included in the Swiss Inventory of Cultural Property of National Significance.Besides Zürich HB, there are 21 railway stations in the municipality of Zürich: Affoltern, Altstetten, Binz, Brunau, Enge, Friesenberg, Giesshübel, Hardbrücke, Leimbach, Manegg, Oerlikon, Saalsporthalle, Schweighof, Seebach, Selnau, Stadelhofen, Stettbach, Tiefenbrunnen, Triemli, Wiedikon, Wipkingen and Wollishofen (excluding the five stations of the Forch railway, which uses the tracks of the tram system in Zürich). Another railway station, Letten, is out of service since 1989.

The Zurich massacre was an anti-Semitic episode in Zurich, Switzerland, which occurred in 1349. The incident was caused by antisemitism in the city due to the alleged murder of the son of a Zurich man, and fueled by the subsequent accusations of well poisoning. This event took place in the frame of the widespread Black Death persecutions, where the Jews were accused of spreading the bubonic plague (known as Black Death).

The 1929 UCI Road World Championships, organized on Friday 16 August 1929, was the ninth edition of the UCI Road World Championships. It was the second time the championships took place in Zürich, Switzerland after the 1923 edition. The course, with Zürich as both start and finish place, was around 200km. All 16 professional cyclists finished, with Georges Ronsse -succeeding himself as world champion- reaching an average speed of 29.405 km/h. In the same period, the 1929 UCI Track Cycling World Championships was organized in the Oerlikon Velodrome in Zürich.

The 1946 UCI Road World Championships was the nineteen edition of the UCI Road World Championships. It took place in Zürich, Switzerland on 31 August and 1 September 1946. It was the third time the championships were organized in Zürich, after the 1923 and 1929 editions. The course, with Zürich as both start and finish place, was around 189km for the amateurs and 270km for professional cyclists. Winner Hans Knecht finished with an average speed of 36.448 km/h. In the same period, the 1946 UCI Track Cycling World Championships was organized in the Oerlikon Velodrome in Zürich.

It took place on Saturday 23 August 1923 in Zürich, Switzerland and consisted of 1 race for amateur cyclists. In the same period, the 1923 UCI Track Cycling World Championships was organized in the Oerlikon Velodrome of Zürich.

Zürich ( ZURE-ik, ZOOR-ik, German: [ˈtsyːrɪç] (listen); see below) is the largest city in Switzerland and the capital of the canton of Zürich. It is located in north-central Switzerland, at the northwestern tip of Lake Zürich. Many museums and art galleries can be found in the city, including the Swiss National Museum and Kunsthaus. Schauspielhaus Zürich is considered to be one of the most important theatres in the German-speaking world.Zürich is home to many financial institutions and banking companies.

Liebfrauenkirche (lit. 'Dear Lady Church') is a Catholic church in Zurich, Switzerland. Due to the influx of Catholic immigration in Zurich in the 19th century, it was built from 1893 to 1894 under the Romanesque Revival architecture designs of the architect August Hardegger. Its patron saint is Mary, Mother of God.

The Archive of Contemporary History (Archiv für Zeitgeschichte) is part of the Institute for History at ETH Zurich and serves as the archive for the history of Switzerland from the late 19th century to the present. It preserves and catalogues personal estates as well as institutional archives (textual, audio, and visual documents) from private collections and makes these historical sources accessible to the public.

Oetenbach was a Dominican nunnery in the medieval municipality of Zürich in Switzerland. Oetenbach was named after the small stream of the same name at its first location at Zürichhorn, situated outside of the European Middle Ages town walls, but moved to the present Sihlbühl. The nunnery was abolished on occasion of the Reformation in Zürich – the Waisenhaus building is its only remained structure, now the headquarters of Stadtpolizei Zürich.

Zentralbibliothek Zürich (Zurich Central Library) is the main library of both the city and the University of Zurich, housed in the Predigerkloster, the former Black Friars' abbey, in the old town's Rathaus quarter. It was founded in 1914 by a merger of the former cantonal and city libraries. Its history ultimately goes back to the Stiftsbibliothek of the Grossmünster abbey, first attested in 1259. Much of the abbey's library was lost in the Swiss Reformation, especially in an incident of book burning on 14 September 1525, reducing it to a total inventory of 470 volumes. From 1532, Konrad Pellikan (1478–1556) began rebuilding the Stiftsbibliothek, especially with the purchase of Zwingli's private library, and the library catalogue in 1551 lists 770 volumes. The city library had been established in 1634, and its policy to allow access only to citizens of Zurich led to disputes with the university, which led to the establishment of a cantonal library in 1835, built from some 3,500 volumes with 14,000 titles of the Stiftsbibliothek, some 340 volumes of the recent University Library (since 1833) and some 1,700 volumes of the Gymnasiumsbibliothek (since 1827). The Zentralbibliothek currently houses some 5.1 million items, among these 3.9 million printed volumes, 124,000 manuscripts, 243,000 maps and 560,000 microfiches.
