Eight Mile Plains is an outer southern suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the 2016 census, Eight Mile Plains had a population of 15,322 people.

Eight Mile Plains busway station is the southernmost station on the South East Busway in Brisbane, Australia serving the suburb of Eight Mile Plains. It opened on 30 April 2001 when the busway was extended from Woolloongabba.It is currently the last station on the South East Busway, and is connected to the Springwood bus station by the Pacific Motorway. It is enclosed by a number of major roads including Logan Road, Miles Platting Road, the Pacific Motorway and the Gateway Motorway. It features a free park & ride facility.As part of the upgrade of the Pacific Motorway between Eight Mile Plains and Daisy Hill commenced in 2020, the South East Busway will be extended to Springwood bus station. The Pacific Highway upgrade and the Busway extension is expected to be completed in 2024. Eight Mile Plains will then no longer be the last station on the Busway.

Westfield Mt Gravatt (formerly Westfield Garden City, prior to that simply Garden City, and always commonly known as Garden City) is one of Brisbane's major shopping centres, located in the suburb of Upper Mount Gravatt in Queensland, Australia. The centre carries the affectionate slang name of Garbo and is operated by Westfield. Previously the centre was operated by AMP Limited before the takeover in 2003. The shopping centre currently has 470 specialty stores, cafes, restaurants and other services and food vendors. Within the centre is Upper Mount Gravatt Post Shop and Garden City Library. Another notable feature of Garden City is the Town Square, which is an outdoor dining area featuring coffee shops, restaurants and an Event Cinemas complex. On 8 August 2022, the centre was renamed Westfield Mt Gravatt to better reflect its location, although the centre is not in the suburb of Mount Gravatt (which is approximately 2 km to the north) but in the suburb of Upper Mount Gravatt.

Runcorn State High School is a government funded school located in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was established in 1986 and has a population of about 850 students in Years 7 to 12 (aged 12 to 17), 90+ teaching staff, and 40+ support staff. Students are sorted into pastoral care groups within their year levels and populate from 20 to 25 in each group. The PCs are simply named as consecutive letters. There are four sporting Houses which are: Selsey (Yellow), Tarsett (Green), Nathan (Red) & Sirett (Black). Compulsory subjects; through all year levels include Maths and English. In the junior school, students must also study SOSE, Science, Physical Education and a language. Students have other options such as drama, media, art or business.

The Queensland School for Travelling Show Children (QSTSC) was a publicly funded co-educational primary (K-7) school that provided distance education services to the children and families of itinerant business proprietors and workers on the agricultural show circuits in all states and territories of Australia except Western Australia. Families whose incomes were dependent on the employment opportunities provided by the shows had traditionally found it difficult to access mainstream educational services leading in some cases to interruption or abandonment of education at an early age and in others either the splitting up of families as one parent or carer stayed on the circuit whilst another settled in one place on a permanent basis or cessation of the occupation by parents and carers. A sub-section of the Brisbane School of Distance Education (BSDE), the actual school consisted of two mobile classrooms which were transported separately each week to a new location (usually the grounds of a primary school). The site of the temporary locations was dictated by the routes followed by the show circuits. The school maintained an administrative office on the BDSE campus in the Brisbane suburb of Coorparoo.
