Barajas (Madrid Metro)

Casco Histórico de Barajas is an administrative neighborhood (barrio) of Madrid belonging to the district of Barajas. It has an area of 0.609202 km2 (0.235214 sq mi). As of 1 February 2020, it has a population of 7,735.

Barajas is a district of the city of Madrid, Spain. Madrid's main international airport, Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport, is located in the district.

Corralejos is a neighborhood (barrio) of Madrid belonging to the district of Barajas. It has an area of 4.633048 km2 (1.788830 sq mi). As of 1 February 2020, it has a population of 7,808. The neighborhood hosts the IFEMA fair facilities and the Palacio de Congresos, as well as the Juan Carlos I Park.

Aeropuerto T1-T2-T3 is a station on Line 8 of the Madrid Metro next to terminal T2 of Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport, in the Madrid district of the same name. It is located in fare Zone A.The station opened to the public on 14 June 1999 under the name Aeropuerto. The line was opened by the King and Queen of Spain along with the chairman of the Community of Madrid. Construction of the expansion of line 8 were funded by the European Union Cohesion Fund. On 3 May 2007 the station was renamed Aeropuerto T1, T2, T3, after the Terminal 4 extension opened.

Alameda de Osuna is a station on Line 5 of the Madrid Metro. It is located in fare Zone A.

Aeropuerto T4 is a station on Line 8 of Madrid Metro and Lines C-1 and C-10 of Cercanías Madrid on the lower level of the new terminal T4 of Madrid-Barajas Airport. The metro station was opened on 3 May 2007 and the commuter rail station was opened on 22 September 2011; and presents the particularity of requiring the payment of a special supplement of €1 for users of single ticket or Metrobus, the same way it happens in the station Airport T1-T2-T3. It is located in fare Zone A.The Cercanías Madrid station runs in parallel to the Metro and can be seen from one platform to the other. The station was built along with the civil works of the airport terminal and a train station.

On December 30, 2006, a van bomb exploded in the Terminal 4 parking area at the Madrid–Barajas Airport in Spain, killing two and injuring 52. On January 9, 2007, the Basque nationalist and separatist organisation ETA claimed responsibility for the attack. The attack, one of the most powerful carried out by ETA, damaged the airport terminal and destroyed the entire parking structure. The bombing ended a nine-month ceasefire declared by the armed organisation and prompted the government to halt plans for negotiations with the organisation. Despite the attack, ETA claimed that the ceasefire was still in place and regretted the death of civilians. The organisation eventually announced the end of the ceasefire in June 2007. Ordered and planned by then head of commandos Miguel Garikoitz Aspiazu Rubina alias Txeroki, the attack was carried out by the "commando Elurra", whose members were arrested in early 2008 and sentenced for the attack in May 2010. Txeroki was arrested in November 2008 and was condemned to prison in 2011.

The Madrid runway disaster was on 7 December 1983 when Iberia Boeing 727 collided with Aviaco McDonnell Douglas DC-9 on the ground at Madrid–Barajas Airport. A departing Iberia Boeing 727 struck an Aviaco McDonnell Douglas DC-9, causing the deaths of 93 passengers and crew.

Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (IATA: MAD, ICAO: LEMD), commonly known as Madrid–Barajas Airport, is the main international airport serving Madrid, the capital city of Spain. At 3,050 ha (7,500 acres) in area, it is the second-largest airport in Europe by physical size behind Paris–Charles de Gaulle Airport. In 2019, 61.8 million passengers travelled through Madrid–Barajas, making it the country's busiest airport as well as Europe's fifth-busiest. The airport opened in 1931 and has grown to be one of Europe's most important aviation centres. Within the city limits of Madrid, it is 9 km (6 mi) from the city's financial district and 13 km (8 mi) northeast of the Puerta del Sol or Plaza Mayor de Madrid, Madrid's historic centre. The airport name derives from the adjacent district of Barajas, which has its own metro station on the same rail line serving the airport. Barajas serves as the gateway to the Iberian peninsula from the rest of Europe and the world and is a key link between Europe and Latin America. Following the death of former Spanish Prime Minister, Adolfo Suárez, in 2014, the Spanish Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced that the airport was to be renamed Aeropuerto Adolfo Suárez, Madrid–Barajas. The airport is the primary hub and maintenance base for Iberia and Air Europa. Consequently, Iberia is responsible for more than 40% of Barajas's traffic. The airport has five passenger terminals: T1, T2, T3, T4 and T4S.

Aeropuerto is a ward (barrio) of Madrid belonging to the district of Barajas. Its borders are coterminous with those of the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, after which it is named.

The Hospital de Emergencias Enfermera Isabel Zendal is a public hospital constructed during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Hortaleza district of Madrid, Spain. Having opened its doors in December 2020 after a construction period of only 100 days, it had become the city's main recipient of patients infected by the virus and the Spanish hospital with most COVID-patients by January 2021. It is named after Isabel Zendal, a Spanish nurse notable for participating in the 1803–06 Balmis Expedition which brought smallpox vaccination to South America and Asia.

El Capricho is a station on Line 5 of the Madrid Metro. It is located in fare Zone A.The station is named after the Parque de El Capricho. There is a pedestrian route from the station to these gardens which were created by the Duchess of Osuna.
