Pontyclun

Pontyclun railway station is an unstaffed, minor railway station in Pontyclun, in the County Borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, South Wales. The station is at street level, on Station Approach, Pontyclun. It is a stop on the South Wales Main Line, served by trains on the Maesteg Line, and occasionally by the Swanline Cardiff to Swansea regional services, as well as one early-morning daily service to Manchester and a late-night daily service to Carmarthen. The station and all trains are operated by Transport for Wales Rail. It is 181 miles 40 chains (292.1 km) from the zero point at London Paddington, measured via Stroud.The station was rebuilt and reopened under British Rail as Pontyclun on 28 September 1992. It was previously called Llantrisant station and was originally two separate railway stations that were merged in 1925, those originally belonging to the South Wales Railway and the Cowbridge Railway, whose successors, the Great Western Railway and the Taff Vale Railway respectively, had amalgamated in 1922.

The Afon Clun (English: River Clun) is a 14-mile (23 km) long tributary of the River Ely (Welsh: Afon Elái), in the counties of Cardiff and Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. Its bedrock is predominantly of sandstone. Beginning on the western slope of The Garth (Mynydd y Garth) the river is fast-flowing, in clear shallow water with a hard substrate, flowing to the south of Llantrisant and generally west to its confluence with the River Ely at Pontyclun, falling 715 feet (218 m) over its course. The river contains species such as stone loach, lamprey, eel, roach, chub and bullhead, and the Afon Clun valley is home to many species, including dragonflies and damselflies, badger, and the marsh fritillary butterfly, as well as the European Protected Species – bats, dormouse, otter and great crested newt. Birds in the area include bullfinch, kingfisher, linnet, reed bunting, skylark, and song thrush. The valley is at risk of flooding between Cross Inn and Pontyclun and the river is liable to overflow its northern bank along its one-and-a-half-mile (2.4 km) length downstream from the main A4119 (Tonypandy to Cardiff Bay (Bae Caerdydd)) road at Talbot Green (Tonysguboriau) to Pontyclun, providing a wetland wildlife habitat. Many archeological sites are close to the river, from the Bronze Age tumuli on The Garth and an Iron Age hill fort at Rhiwsaeson, to the more recent industrial archeology of coal mines.

Pontyclun Football Club is an amateur Welsh football club, founded in 1896 which plays its matches at Ivor Park, Pontyclun. It plays in the Ardal Leagues South West, the third tier of the Welsh football pyramid. In its early years, the club played in the Bridgend League and the Cardiff & District League. In 1922, it was then admitted to the Football Association of Wales, one of the few amateur clubs at the time to achieve such status. Within a few years, the FAW adopted Pontyclun's motto 'Gorau chwarae, cyd chwarae' (roughly translated as 'the best players play together') as its own. In 1968, the club was admitted to the Welsh Football League (then the premier league in Wales). At the same time, Pontyclun continued to run teams in both the Rhondda and Pontypridd leagues. Since 1968, the club has played most of its games in the 3rd division, but has three times achieved promotion. In 1979–80 the club was runner up to Lake United and again in 1992–93 to Treowen. In the 2002–03 season the club was crowned champions of Division Three, pipping Skewen Athletic by a goal difference of one on the final day of the season. At the same time, the Reserves were Runners Up in the Reserve East Division. Four Pontyclun players have achieved high honours – Thomas Edgar Russell who was goalkeeper and secretary in the 1920s became President of the FAW from 1968 to 1972. Former Cardiff City centre half Keith Pontin, who was also a Pontyclun youth product and local boy capped by Wales in 1981. Wayne Morgan, who was a professional with Norwich City was capped by Wales at U17 level. Craig Williams was capped by the Boys Clubs of Wales in 2002 as well as representing the Swansea City and Cardiff City Youth teams. Recent developments at the club include a brand new clubhouse and 100 seater stand.

Tyla Garw is a hamlet within the community of Llanharry in Rhondda Cynon Taf, South Wales, and is located to the west of the Afon Clun, near Pontyclun. It is also a electoral ward to Llanharry Community Council, electing one of the nine community councillors.

Y Pant School (Welsh: Ysgol Y Pant) is an 11–18 mixed, English-medium community comprehensive secondary school and sixth form in Talbot Green, Pontyclun, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales.

Talbot Green (Welsh: Tonysguboriau "lea of the barns") is a town (and electoral ward) just north of the M4 motorway, in the County Borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales in the United Kingdom. The town is part of Llantrisant Community Council.

Miskin (Welsh: Meisgyn) is a village approximately 2 miles (3 km) south of Llantrisant in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. The origin of the village was a small hamlet known as New Mill, which grew up around New Mill farm. Miskin is part of the Pontyclun electoral ward.

Llantrisant Common and Pastures is a 113-hectare (280-acre) Site of Special Scientific Interest in Llantrisant, Rhondda Cynon Taf, south Wales. It was established in 2000. The Countryside Council for Wales states that the site has been categorized as a Site of Special Interest for "...its extensive area of acidic marshy grassland in a lowland setting, as well as for smaller areas of species-rich neutral grassland, dry acidic grassland and flush. It is also of special interest for populations of two rare plants: Cornish moneywort (Sibthorpia europaea) and a liverwort known as bog earwort (Scapania paludicola).

Llanharry railway station served the village of Llanharry in the Vale of Glamorgan in South Wales.

Llantrisant Church (Church of St Illtyd, St Gwynno and St Dyfodwg, also styled "The Mother Church") is located in Llantrisant, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Glamorgan, Wales. Built within a short distance of Llantrisant Castle, it was originally in the Norman style of architecture. When described in History of Llantrisant, Glamorganshire (1898), little of the original church remained, with the only traces of Norman architecture being the baptismal font, a portion of the south door, and the lower part of the western arch of the nave. The tower, which is about 70 feet (21 m) high, contains a peal of six bells. The living is a vicarage. Llantrisant Church is a Grade II* listed building.
