The Missouri State Capitol is the home of the Missouri General Assembly and the executive branch of government of the U.S. state of Missouri. Located in Jefferson City at 201 West Capitol Avenue, it is the third capitol to be built in the city. (The previous two were demolished after they were damaged by fire.) The domed building, designed by the New York City architectural firm of Tracy and Swartwout, was completed in 1917.The capitol’s dome is the first thing travelers see when approaching Jefferson City from the north. In addition to the state Senate and House of Representatives, the capitol also contains offices of the governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, state treasurer, state auditor, and some administrative agencies. It is individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a contributing property in the Missouri State Capitol Historic District.

The Missouri Senate is the upper chamber of the Missouri General Assembly. It has 34 members, representing districts with an average population of 181,000. Its members serve four-year terms, with half the seats being up for election every two years. The Senate chooses a President Pro Tempore to serve in the absence of the lieutenant governor or when he shall have to exercise the office of governor of Missouri if there is a vacancy in that office due to death, resignation, impeachment, or incapacitation.Members of the Missouri General Assembly are prohibited from serving more than eight years in either the state house of representatives or state senate, or a total of sixteen years, due to statutory term limits.Elections were held in 2022.

The Missouri State Museum is Missouri's showpiece museum. It was founded in 1919 and is located in Jefferson City, Missouri, inside the state capitol on the ground floor of the building.The museum's mission is to explore Missouri's history and resources to discover connections that inspire the present and enrich the future. Visitors will find a variety of cultural and natural history exhibits including temporary exhibits, stationary exhibits, traveling exhibits, and hands-on and audio interactive. The museum offers a variety of free in-house public programming, outreach programming and traveling exhibits geared toward all ages and audiences. The museum has over 30,000 artifacts in its collection, including the largest collections of Missouri Civil War battle flags and World War I flags.The history wing of the museum was originally the only part of the museum and is now in the eastern wing of the capitol building. In 1921, the Missouri Resources Museum was founded and placed in the wing directly opposite the state museum in the west wing of the capitol. The two merged in 1923 to form the Missouri State Museum. The museum was controlled by a variety of state agencies until 1978. In that year the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) took control of the museum where it has remained ever since. It is now part of DNR's Division of State Parks. The museum staff also provides tours of the capitol building itself.

The Missouri House of Representatives is the lower chamber of the Missouri General Assembly. It has 163 members, representing districts with an average size of 37,000 residents. House members are elected for two-year terms during general elections held in even-numbered years. Missouri's house is the fourth largest in the United States even as the state ranks 18th in population. The only states with a larger lower house in the United States are New Hampshire (400), Pennsylvania (203) and Georgia (180). Republicans have controlled the State House since 2003.The next election will be held in 2024.

Jefferson Landing State Historic Site is a historic district maintained by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources encompassing several state-owned properties in Jefferson City, Missouri, United States. The historic site includes the Christopher Maus House, the Union Hotel, and the Lohman's Landing Building (also known as the Jefferson Landing Building), which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969.

Jefferson City is an Amtrak train station in Jefferson City, Missouri, United States. The station is located on the ground floor of the former Union Hotel, which was built in 1855 and is part of the Jefferson Landing State Historic Site. The Amtrak station was previously located at the old Missouri Pacific Railroad station before moving two blocks west to its current location in 1984. The station has neither checked baggage service nor a Quik-Trak ticketing kiosk, so tickets must be purchased in advance.The entire Union Hotel building (including the station) was closed on October 2, 2019, due to concerns that its exterior masonry was no longer structurally sound after a bulge appeared in its north wall. In December 2019, a temporary station consisting of a modular trailer was established in a nearby parking lot. While monitoring shows that the bulge is not significantly worsening, the building remains closed and has been placed on Missouri Preservation's "2021 Places in Peril" list. Planning and design for an estimated $9 million, two-year project to repair the building is scheduled to start in July 2022. In addition to stabilizing the structure and improving its waterproofing, the project will modernize the building and bring it up to code. As of December 2021, funding for the project was waiting to be appropriated in the state's FY23 budget by the Missouri General Assembly.On November 9, 2022, Amtrak confirmed that it was still planning to work on improving the station.

In January 2019, Gov. Mike Parson signed Executive Order 19-03 to move the Division of Workforce Development and the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center (MERIC) under the Department of Higher Education. The department transformation became legally effective on Aug. 28, 2019, when Governor Parson signed Executive Order 19-15, to form the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development.

Missouri State Capitol Historic District is a national historic district located at Jefferson City, Cole County, Missouri. It encompasses 122 contributing buildings in the central business district of Jefferson City. The district developed between about 1850 and 1950, and includes representative examples of Classical Revival, Late Victorian, Queen Anne, Mission Revival, and Modern Movement style architecture. Located in the district are the separately listed Missouri State Capitol, Lohman's Landing Building, Cole County Historical Society Building, Cole County Courthouse and Jail-Sheriff's House, Missouri Governor's Mansion, and Tergin Apartment Building. Other notable buildings include the St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church complex (1881-1883), Margaret Upshulte House (c. 1865), Broadway State Office Building (1938), Supreme Court of Missouri (1905-1906), U.S. Post Office and Courthouse (1932-1934), Lohman's Opera House (c. 1885), Missouri State Optical (c. 1840s), First United Methodist Church (1900), Carnegie Public Library (1901), Temple Beth El (1883), and Joseph and Susie Kolkmeyer House (c. 1907).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, with a boundary increase in 2002.

Missouri State Board of Education (MSBE) is Missouri's board of education, headquartered in Jefferson City. The board of education is established in Article IX, Section 2a of the Missouri Constitution. The eight members of the Board of Education are elected to staggered eight-year terms. The Board serves as the state-level governing body for career and technical education programs provided by local school districts, community colleges and four-year institutions and helps determine educational policy for the state's primary and secondary schools.

Lohman's Landing Building, also known as Jefferson Landing Building, is a historic commercial building located in Jefferson Landing State Historic Site at Jefferson City, Cole County, Missouri. It was built about 1834, and is a 3+1⁄2-story, rectangular limestone building. It measures 71 feet, 6 inches, long and 50 feet deep.: 2 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969. It is located in the Missouri State Capitol Historic District.

The Missouri Governor's Mansion is a historic U.S. residence in Jefferson City, Missouri. It is located at 100 Madison Street. On May 21, 1969, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. It is located in the Missouri State Capitol Historic District. The current site on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River was the vicinity of the first Jefferson City Missouri State Capitol building from 1825 to 1837 after the capitol was relocated from St. Charles, Missouri to Jefferson City. The capitol burned in 1837 and was rebuilt at its current site a block to the west. The current Neo-Renaissance structure was built in 1871 at a cost of $75,000 and has served every governor since. It was renovated extensively during the administration of Governor Kit Bond in the 1980s.

Cole County Historical Society Building, also known as the B. Gratz Brown House, is a historic building located at Jefferson City, Cole County, Missouri. It was built in 1871, and is a two-story, Victorian style, brick rowhouse. It is three bays wide and features segmental arched windows. It was renovated in 1948.: 2 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969. It is located in the Missouri State Capitol Historic District.
