Forest Hills Historic District (Durham, North Carolina)

Mary Duke Biddle Estate, also known as the James O. Cobb House, is a historic home and estate located at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. The main house "Pinecrest" is a Tudor Revival style dwelling built in 1927, with additions and interior renovations made between 1935 and 1958. These additions and renovations included Colonial Revival, French Eclectic, Oriental, Art Moderne, and Art Deco elements. The estate property includes an additional three contributing outbuildings and nine contributing structures. They are The Cottage, a gasoline pump, iron picket fence with two ornamental gates, two large brick arches, stone-lined grottoes, bathhouse, tennis court, a swimming pool, a stone fireplace, pergola, a gardener's cottage with an attached greenhouse, and a storage garage. The estate was the home of philanthropist Mary Duke Biddle from 1935 until her death in 1960.After Mary Duke Biddle's death, the house was owned by noted philanthropist Mary Duke Biddle Trent Semans and her husband, James H. Semans, who gave the house to their son, James D.B.T. Semans in 1976. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013. Pinecrest and some of the contributing resources are included in the Forest Hills Historic District.In July 2023, the house located at 1415 Bivins St. was burned down as part of a training exercise by the Durham Fire Department, to make room for a proposed housing development.

Morehead Hill Historic District is a national historic district located at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 206 contributing buildings in a predominantly residential section of Durham. They were built between the late-19th century and 1950s and include notable examples of Late Victorian, Queen Anne, and Bungalow / American Craftsman style architecture.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985, with a boundary increase in 2004.

Lincoln Hospital was a medical facility located in Durham, North Carolina founded to serve the African Americans of Durham County and surrounding areas. With original hospital construction financed by the Duke family, Lincoln served as the primary African American hospital in Durham from its opening in 1901 until 1976, when it closed and transferred its inpatient services to Durham County General Hospital. Despite its cultural setting within the Jim Crow South, Lincoln Hospital developed and thrived due to a complex web of inter- and intraracial cooperation. Lincoln's medical staff sought to reduce morbidity and mortality of Durham blacks by targeting maternal and child health, infectious disease, and health behavior through health education programs, specialized clinics, and free medical care. Lincoln expanded educational opportunities for blacks through their nursing, residency, and surgery programs during a time where few opportunities existed for blacks in healthcare.

The John Sprunt Hill House is a historic house at 900 S. Duke street in Durham, North Carolina, in the Morehead Hill Historic District. Built in 1911–1912, it was the home of John Sprunt Hill (1869–1961) and his wife Annie Watts Hill (died 1940), daughter of George Washington Watts, co-founder of the American Tobacco Company. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.Hill bequeathed the Spanish Colonial Revival mansion to a foundation created in memory of his wife. The Annie Watts Hill Foundation was created to support non-sectarian, non-political female organizations. As of 2008, the Junior League of Durham and Orange Counties makes its home here, although it is open to any group meeting the aforementioned criteria.

The Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice is a community organization dedicated to preserving and propagating the legacy of Pauli Murray (1910–1985), a pioneering legal advocate of African-American civil rights in the 20th century. It is located at the former Pauli Murray Family Home at 906 Carroll Street in Durham, North Carolina, the house where Murray was raised. In 2015, the property was named a national treasure by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The property was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2016.

Greystone, also known as the James E. Stagg House, is a historic home located at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. It was designed by architect Charles Christian Hook and built in 1911. It is a 2+1⁄2-story, six-bay, Châteauesque style granite, limestone, and brick dwelling. It features a deep porch with porte cochere, projecting bays with conical roofs, tall chimney stacks, and a high hipped roof with numerous dormers and heavy yellow-green clay tiles. The house was divided into six apartments about 1961.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The American Tobacco Trail (ATT) is a 22.6-mile (36.4 km) long Rails-to-Trails project located in the Research Triangle region of North Carolina, running along an abandoned railroad bed originally built for the American Tobacco Company in the 1970s. The route crosses through portions of Durham County (including the City of Durham), Chatham County, and Wake County (including the Town of Cary, North Carolina). The ATT is part of the East Coast Greenway and is open to pedestrians, cyclists, equestrians (in non-urban sections) and other non-motorized users. Starting from the southern end of the trail in New Hill, the 6.5 mile Wake County portion of the trail is gravel, followed by a 4.7-mile multi-use section in Chatham County that contains a paved lane and a gravel (equestrian lane); the northernmost 11.4-mile paved section in Durham County on the north end of the trail ends at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park (DBAP). The 4.7-mile Chatham County section of the trail was built, and is managed, by the Town of Cary (which resides in both Wake and Chatham counties).

Hillside Park High School, also known as Hillside High School, James A. Whitted Elementary School, and James A. Whitted Junior High School, is a historic school building for African-American students located at Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. The original Classical Revival portion dates to 1922 and is a T-shaped, two-story building on a full basement. A three-story red-brick, T-shaped Modern Movement style addition was built in 1954–1955, with a one-story-on-basement gymnasium rear wing. Also on the property is a contributing greenhouse built about 1960. The school served the African-American student population of Durham until 1970, when the schools were integrated.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

Emmanuel AME Church, also known as Deliverance Temple Holy Church, is a historic African Methodist Episcopal church building located at 710 Kent Street in Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. The Gothic Revival building was constructed in 1888. The 30 inch walls were covered with stucco in 1962. Both the bricks and land for the church were donated by Richard B. Fitzgerald, a prominent African American brickmaker.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Durham Bulls Athletic Park (DBAP, pronounced "d-bap") is a 10,000-seat ballpark in Durham, North Carolina, that is home to the Durham Bulls, the Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays of Major League Baseball. It is also home to the Duke Blue Devils and North Carolina Central Eagles college baseball teams. The $18.5-million park opened in 1995 as the successor to Durham Athletic Park.

Scarborough House is a historic home located in the Hayti neighborhood of Durham, Durham County, North Carolina. It was built in 1916, and consists of a cubical two-story, two-room-deep hip roofed main block, with a two-story hip-roofed rear ell. It features a Neoclassical style, two-story flat-roofed portico on paired Doric order columns. It was built by prosperous African-American funeral home owner J. C. Scarborourgh and his wife Daisy and many of the materials used for the house were salvaged by Scarborough from the 1880s Queen Anne Style Frank L. Fuller House which formerly stood in the 300 block of E. Main St.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
