Battle of Fort Anne

Fort Ann is a village in Washington County, New York, United States. It is part of the Glens Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village population was 484 at the 2010 census. The name is derived indirectly from Queen Anne and the local fortification built in 1757 and named after her. The village of Fort Ann is part of the town of Fort Ann at the junction of U.S. Route 4 and New York State Route 149.

The Champlain Canal is a 60-mile (97 km) canal in New York that connects the Hudson River to the south end of Lake Champlain. It was simultaneously constructed with the Erie Canal for use by commercial vessels, fully opening in 1823. Today, it is mostly used by recreational boaters as part of the New York State Canal System and Lakes to Locks Passage. Water for the highest portion comes from the Hudson River via the Glens Falls Feeder Canal, from above the drop at Glens Falls, New York.

Great Meadow Correctional Facility is a maximum security prison in New York State in the United States. The prison is in Comstock, a hamlet right outside of the village of Fort Ann in Washington County, New York. As of September 3, 2008 it was home to 1,663 inmates. When Great Meadow opened in 1911 it was the fourth prison for adult males constructed in the state of New York.

WXLJ (94.1 FM) is a public radio station licensed to Whitehall, New York, United States, serving the Saratoga Springs, New York, area. The station is owned by The St. Lawrence University, and is an affiliate of their North Country Public Radio network. WXLJ's signal covers Glens Falls, Queensbury, parts of Saratoga, and parts of western Vermont. A small mountain range inhibits the signal from reaching clearly into Rutland.

Washington Correctional Facility is a medium-security correctional facility that is located in Comstock, a hamlet in the Town of Fort Ann in Washington County, New York. It is designated for confinement of males age 18 and older. The facility offers volunteer and counseling services, and educational and vocational programs. As of 2010 Washington had a working capacity of 882.Michael Alig, convicted of the manslaughter of Angel Melendez in 1997, served some of his sentence at Washington. Joseph Boyajian, convicted of money laundering at Frank Palangi Studios and public intoxication in 2019, is currently serving a ten year sentence at the facility. Joseph was well known as a local KFC franchisee and the original owner of Bogies in Albany, NY before it collapsed during a Trapt concert.

Hadlock Pond, also known as Lake Hadlock or Sunderland Pond, is a small, private, man-made reservoir formed on a tributary of Halfway Creek in the Town of Fort Ann in Washington County, New York, United States. Constructed in 1896, the original dam was of earthen construction, or rock fill. It had a height of 29 feet (8.8 m), with a width of 850 feet (260 m). The dam was reconstructed in 2005, only to collapse months later, flooding and damaging nearby property. The pond is owned by the town of Fort Ann, and is primarily used for recreational purposes. The pond has a surface area of 220 acres (0.89 km2).

Hartford is a town centrally located in Washington County, New York, United States. It is part of the Glens Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town population was 2,193 at the 2020 census.

The Elisha Straight House, now the Hartford Museum, is located on Main Street in Hartford, New York, United States, a short distance north of NY 149. It is a red wooden house dating to the early 19th century. At the beginning of the Civil War it was used as a local recruitment center for the Union Army, since many local men wanted to serve due to strong abolitionist sentiment in the area. Today it is a local history museum. In 2004 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Brown's Tavern is a historic tavern and farm complex located at South Hartford in Washington County, New York. The property includes the 1802 Brown's Tavern, an 1878 horse barn, outhouse, corn crib, well and pump, and store and sheds foundations. The tavern building is a rectangular, 2+1⁄2-story, five by three bay, high-pitched gable roof building measuring 47 feet wide and 37 feet deep. The interior features a noted ballroom. It includes Federal style details, but was renovated about 1878–1880 in a regional eclectic style. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

The Saddles State Forest is a state forest in New York State. The area was purchased by The Nature Conservancy and was sold to the state in 2013. The two peaks that reach 1,600 feet are purportedly the reasoning behind the naming of the forest. The forest contains over 2,250 feet of undeveloped Lake Champlain shoreline. The area is open for recreation year round. A steep unmaintained gravel road from New York State Route 22 provides access to a parking area. There are no marked DEC trails, although unmaintained logging trails and unofficial hiking paths can be found throughout the forest.Peregrine falcons, bald eagles, and timber rattlesnakes are known to inhabit the area.

Washington County is a county in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 61,302. The county seat is Fort Edward. The county was named for U.S. President George Washington. The county is part of the Capital District region of the state.

The Mettawee River (sometimes spelled "Mettowee River") is a tributary of Lake Champlain in western Vermont and eastern New York in the United States, passing the town of Granville, New York. The river is particularly good for rapids and kayaking.
