The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (abbr. MBIE; Māori: Hīkina Whakatutuki) is the public service department of New Zealand charged with "delivering policy, services, advice and regulation" which contribute to New Zealand's economic productivity and business growth.

Meteorological Service of New Zealand Limited (MetService - Te Ratonga Tirorangi) is the national meteorological service of New Zealand. MetService was established as a state-owned enterprise in 1992. It employs about 300 staff, and its headquarters are in Wellington, New Zealand. Prior to becoming a state-owned enterprise, New Zealand's national meteorological service has existed in a number of forms since the appointment of the country's first Director of Meteorological Stations in August 1861. As New Zealand's national meteorological service, MetService produces and issues forecasts and official weather warnings on behalf of New Zealand's Ministry of Transport and is certified by the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand. International media, aviation and energy business is conducted under the MetraWeather brand. MetService has been certified to the ISO 9001 standard since November 1995.

The Dominion Farmers' Institute was an investment company formed to erect a suitable building to house central national offices for New Zealand's agricultural, pastoral and horticultural associations and the many other groups involved with work on the land and their many products. Members attended national meetings in Wellington and often made group and individual representations to government ministers.

Lambton Quay (once known as The Beach) is the heart of the central business district of Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand.Originally, as the name implies, it was the high-water line of the foreshore, and sometimes the sea would roll across the road and enter the shops on the opposite side. It was the site of the original European settlement in 1840 (following initial settlement on flood-prone land at Petone), which grew into Wellington. In the 19th century Pipitea Pa was situated at the extreme northern end of Lambton Quay – the section of road in this area is now known as Thorndon Quay. Land uplift caused by the 1855 Wairarapa earthquake and further reclamation have left Lambton Quay some 250 metres from the current shoreline. Kumototo Stream used to flow from the Terrace, down what is now Woodward Street and across Lambton Quay to the waterfront. This stream was culverted in the late 19th century.Lambton Quay is named after John Lambton, 1st Earl of Durham, the first chairman of directors of the New Zealand Company.Lambton Quay, Willis Street, Manners Street and Courtenay Place form what is known locally as the Golden Mile. The city's retail trade has spread further south to also include Cuba Street, but Lambton Quay remains a major commercial thoroughfare. In 2020 it was estimated that about 70,000 people travel on Lambton Quay and Willis Street each day, mostly on foot or by bus. It is also of administrative significance, with the New Zealand Parliament Buildings towards the northern end. The Wellington Cenotaph is also located at this end, next to Parliament.The Wellington Cable Car runs from Lambton Quay to the top of the Botanic Garden. James Henry Marriott, who arrived from London in 1843, had a bookshop here.The length of Lambton Quay is punctuated by several notable sculptures.

The New Zealand Industrial Exhibition was an industrial exhibition held in a large Industrial Exhibition Building in Wellington, between Lambton Quay and Stout Street in 1885. Organised by Julius Vogel it was intended to display New Zealand's industries to both encourage foreign investment and to boost New Zealand's self-confidence.

The New Zealand Law Society (Māori: Te Kāhui Ture o Aotearoa) is the parent body for barristers and solicitors in New Zealand. It was established in 1869, and regulates all lawyers practising in New Zealand. Membership of the society is voluntary, although any person wishing to practice law in New Zealand must obtain a practising certificate from the society. The society has 13 branch offices throughout the country. Each branch has a president and a council, which represent their members’ interests on a regional and national level.

The NTT Tower (formerly Dimension Data Tower, 'Vodafone on The Quay' and 'Mobil on The Park') was designed by Peddle Thorp & Montgomery Architects and was completed in 1999. The main architect on the build was Robert Montgomery and the building was built by Mainzeal Construction. The building was engineered by Connell Wagner Structural Engineers, (now Aurecon). NTT Tower comprises two parts, a modernist high-rise building constructed of concrete with exterior façades of blue glass and the refurbished and strengthened old Police Station buildings that flank the tower. Carparking takes up the lower tower floors to about the height of the old buildings, with office space above that. The building stands at 93 metres high and has twenty five stories above the ground, making it the fourth tallest building in Wellington and the twenty fifth tallest building in New Zealand . The floor size is estimated at 28,000 square metres (300,000 sq ft). The construction was valued at $45 million.The building is owned by Precinct Properties and was renamed to Dimension Data Tower in March 2017. With the global name change of Dimension Data to NTT in 2019, the building's name and branding changed yet again. The building already houses, or has housed, many of New Zealand's top technology companies such as Microsoft New Zealand, Provoke Solutions, Google NZ, as well as tech start-ups such as SuiteFiles. Midland Park has built up a reputation for being the IT centre of Wellington and is surrounded by many government departments.

Te Ara Ahunga Ora Retirement Commission (formerly Commission for Financial Capability), is a Crown entity under the New Zealand Crown Entities Act 2004. The Commission provides financial education and information to residents of New Zealand, advises government on retirement income policy, and monitors the effectiveness of the Retirement Villages Act 2003.

The Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC, Māori: Te Kōmihana Tirotiro Aituā Waka) is a transport safety body of New Zealand. It has its headquarters on the 7th floor of 10 Brandon Street in Wellington. The agency investigates aviation, marine, and rail accidents and incidents occurring in New Zealand. It does not investigate road accidents except where they affect the safety of aviation, marine, or rail (e.g. level crossing or car ferry accidents).It was established by Act of the Parliament of New Zealand (the Transport Accident Investigation Commission Act 1990) on 1 September 1990. TAIC's legislation, functions and powers were modelled on and share some similarities with the National Transportation Safety Board (USA) and the Transportation Safety Board (Canada). It is a standing Commission of Inquiry and an independent Crown entity, and reports to the Minister of Transport. Initially investigating aviation accidents only, the TAIC's jurisdiction was extended in 1992 to cover railway accidents and later in 1995 to cover marine accidents. In May 2006, the Aviation Industry Association claimed too often the organisation did not find the true cause of accidents, after TAIC released the results of a second investigation into a fatal helicopter crash at Taumarunui in 2001. The Commission rejected the criticism, CEO Lois Hutchinson citing the results of a March 2003 audit by the International Civil Aviation Organization.Ron Chippindale, who investigated the Mount Erebus Disaster, was Chief Inspector of Accidents from 1990 to 31 October 1998. He was succeeded by Capt. Tim Burfoot, John Mockett in 2002, Tim Burfoot again in 2007, Aaron Holman in 2019, Harald Hendel in 2020, and Naveen Kozhuppakalam in 2022.

The Embassy of Switzerland in New Zealand (German: Schweizerische Botschaft in Neuseeland, French: Ambassade de Suisse en Nouvelle-Zélande, Italian: Ambasciata di Svizzera in Nuova Zelanda) is the official representation of Switzerland in New Zealand and in a number of Pacific island countries. The Chancery is located in the Maritime Tower, a modern seventeen storey office building overlooking the Wellington Harbour. The building was completed in 2006. Until 2009 the location had been on Panama Street. The Residence is a historical building in Woburn, Lower Hutt, 15 kilometers from the Wellington city center.

Bowen House is a 22-storey office building on the corner of Lambton Quay and Bowen Street, Wellington, New Zealand, that is leased by the New Zealand Parliament to house some members of Parliament and government staff.The building was designed by Warren and Mahoney architects. Construction began in 1988 and was completed in 1990. It has been leased by the New Zealand Parliament since 1991. It was once owned by Government Property Services, which was privatised as Capital Properties New Zealand by a National–New Zealand First coalition government in 1998. In 2012 AMP Capital sold the building to Farhad Vladi, a German property investor.Bowen House contained offices for the smaller parties, select committee staff, and some of the ministers and their support staff. It is connected to the Executive Wing (the Beehive) of the Parliament Buildings by an underground travelator under Bowen Street. Bowen House is part of the parliamentary security system, and the government was the only tenant in the building. Some high-rise buildings in Wellington suffered damage in the November 2016 Kaikoura earthquake, notably Statistics House where some floors partially collapsed after separating from the walls. In December 2016 Wellington City Council ordered that building inspections be carried out in about 80 buildings including Bowen House. (By 2022 the Council had identified 150 buildings at possible risk.) The buildings affected by the order were all multi-storey, made out of reinforced concrete with precast hollow core concrete slab floors. In May 2019 engineers began investigating Bowen House, and In October 2019 Speaker of the House Trevor Mallard announced that engineers did not believe Bowen House was fully safe and that staff would be temporarily relocated so that the building could be strengthened. By February 2020 plans were underway to shift 600 staff after the building was declared to only reach 40% of the new building code. In 2021 Precinct Properties bought Bowen House, with plans to earthquake-strengthen and redevelop the building.

Kirkcaldie & Stains (known as Kirks) was a mid-sized department store in Wellington, New Zealand. It was established in 1863 by John Kirkcaldie and Robert Stains with a capital of £700. The first store was opened on Lambton Quay. In 1868 Kirkcaldie & Stains moved to their final location at the corner of Lambton Quay and Brandon Street, expanding several times. There was a branch in Napier from 1897 until 1917, and a branch on Cuba Street, Wellington for seven years (1871–76). French luxury skincare brand Sisley was exclusive to the store in New Zealand.Kirkcaldie & Stains announced on 4 June 2015 that the store would close in January 2016, when the site, after a multi-million dollar refit, would become a David Jones. Shareholders approved the plan on Friday 31 July 2015 in a special meeting. The store closed on Saturday 16 January 2016. The main store on Lambton Quay reopened as 'David Jones Wellington' a branch of Australian department store chain David Jones Limited on Thursday 28 July 2016. David Jones closed on Sunday 12 June 2022.
