Lumb, Rawtenstall

Whitewell Brook is a minor river in Lancashire, England. It is 4.34 miles (6.99 km) long and has a catchment area of 7.67 square miles (19.86 km2).The stream rises on Deerplay Moor in Cliviger near Burnley and heads southwest, collecting Deerplay Hill Syke as it crosses the A671 Burnley Road and then feeds into the Clough Bottom Reservoir. After exiting the reservoir it crosses Burnley Road East several times as it continues generally southwest. In the hamlet of Water it is met by Shepherd Clough and shortly after Cunliffe Clough. Nearby at Forest Holme it is joined by Heb Clough and it continues through the villages of Lumb and Whitewell Bottom where it collects Shaw Clough Brook. As it enters Waterfoot it turns to the south, passing through the centre of the town where it joins the River Irwell.

Water is a hamlet in the unparished area of Rawtenstall, in the Rossendale district, in Lancashire, England. Located north of the village of Lumb. It is mostly made of a few homes, farms, a bistro called "The Water Trough", a primary school and industrial estates. In 2020 it had an estimated population of 835.

Rossendale was a parliamentary constituency in the Lancashire, England. Created in 1885, it elected one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, elected by the first-past-the-post voting system. When created it comprised the districts of Rawtenstall, Bacup, and Haslingden; Ramsbottom district was added to the constituency in 1950. The constituency ceased to exist with the implementation of the 1983 boundary changes and was replaced by the Rossendale and Darwen constituency. The exact nature of the changes were as follows: 9,882 electors of the Rossendale seat were transferred to Bury North. 25,918 electors were added from the abolished Darwen constituency and 5,267 from Heywood and Royton.

Rossendale and Darwen is a constituency in Lancashire represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2010 by Jake Berry, the former Chairman of the Conservative Party.

Newchurch is a village within the borough of Rossendale in Lancashire, England. It is around one mile east of Rawtenstall and half a mile north of Waterfoot. The village has a mixture of large detached houses and farmhouses, and smaller semi-detached housing on Staghills Council Estate where the majority of the village's population lives. There are two large manor houses, Heightside, a nursing home for those with mental disorders and Ashlands, a care home for the elderly. It is part of the Rossendale and Darwen constituency, with Jake Berry having been the Member of Parliament (MP) since 2010.

Cloughfold is a small hamlet in between the towns of Rawtenstall and Waterfoot in Rossendale, Lancashire, England. Clough Fold railway station on the Rawtenstall to Bacup Line opened in 1871 and closed when the line closed in 1966.

Gambleside is an abandoned village located in northern Rossendale close to the boundary with Burnley's Dunnockshaw parish. In the late Middle Ages Gambleside was one of the cow farms (vaccary) of Rossendale Forest, belonging to the Honour of Clitheroe. In 1507 the land was demised as a copyhold to Oliver and George Ormerode at a rent of £4 per year.Historically the Gambleside area stretched from Limy Water southeast over the hills into the valley of Whitewell Brook, including land on the southern side of Clough Bottom Reservoir. It formed part of the township of Higher Booths in the ancient parish of Whalley, which became a civil parish in 1866. In 1894, with the creation of Rawtenstall Municipal Borough this part of Higher Booths was incorporated into it.The settlement was located on a limersgate, a pathway used by pack horses carrying lime, which linked Clitheroe to Rochdale.Gambleside Colliery was established in 1612 and was worked for over 300 years until 1936. It had two main shafts, a winding shaft on the hillside and Pumping Pit.The population began to decline after the building of the Clowbridge Reservoir in 1866, which restricted farming in the village. The Ormerod Family continued to live there until about 1874, with the village abandoned during the 1890s.
