Canterbury High School (Accokeek, Maryland)

Christ Church Accokeek is an Anglican parish church and cemetery in Accokeek, Maryland. Founded in 1698 as a chapel of ease, the present brick structure dates to 1747 (with substantial reconstruction and addition in the 1850s) and the cemetery to 1775. In 2021, after decades of conflict with the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, the congregation left the Episcopal Church and joined the Anglican Church in North America. The church is listed on the Maryland Historical Trust's Maryland Inventory of Historic Properties.

Accokeek (), "at the edge of the hill" in Algonquin, is a census-designated place (CDP) located in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The CDP is located on the Potomac River, borders Charles County and is approximately 17 miles from Washington. It is a part of the Washington metropolitan area. The population of the CDP, as of the 2020 United States Census was 13,927.While the area around Accokeek was inhabited by Native Americans since approximately 2,000 BCE, John Smith was the first European to settle the area in 1608. In 1990, the United States Census Bureau officially made Accokeek a CDP.

Bellevue is a historic plantation house located at 200 Manning Road East, in Accokeek, Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. This Greek Revival style home was constructed in about 1840. It is one of only three surviving examples in Prince George's County of the once-popular Tidewater house style, typical of successful small plantations of that period. Bellevue is in excellent condition, and retains its freestanding chimneys with brick pent, as well as a roughly contemporary kitchen wing. The house stands on a five-acre, partially wooded lot which exemplifies its original plantation setting.Bellevue was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Hard Bargain Farm is the former country estate and working farm of Alice and Henry Ferguson. It is located at 2001 Bryan Point Road in Accokeek, Maryland, overlooking the Potomac River. The property, now a smaller portion of the 330 acres (130 ha) they purchased, was developed by them into a "country garden". Alice Ferguson, an artist, produced a significant body of her work here, and oversaw both the operations of the farm they established, and studied the prehistoric archaeological remains found on the property. (The Accokeek Creek Site, now in Piscataway Park on land donated by the Fergusons, was first studied by her.) The Fergusons established the Ferguson Foundation in 1954 to manage the property. The foundation operates the property as an educational center focused on land stewardship and historical farming practices in the region. The property includes a heavy timber frame tobacco barn originally constructed between about 1830 and 1850, and rebuilt in the post-American Civil War era. Popular events include the annual Oktoberfest, and "theater in the woods" productions. Hard Bargain Farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Warburton Manor was the colonial home, patented in 1661, of the Digges Family, descendants of Edward Digges, who was Governor of Virginia from 1652 to 1668. Digges was an intimate friend of George and Martha Washington, who visited the house many times. George Washington spent his forty-third birthday at Warburton Manor. Warburton Manor occupied a strategic site on the Potomac River and today it is the site of Fort Washington, designed by Pierre Charles L'Enfant in 1814.

White Hall is an unincorporated community in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. White Hall is located 2.5 miles (4.0 km) northeast of Accokeek.

Around 1622, the Piscataway tribe, which led the Conoy Federation, built a town they soon called Kittamaqundi on Piscataway Creek near the modern day town of Piscataway, Prince George's County, Maryland. When English first visited the town, in 1634, they learned it was named after the relatively new Tayac (Emperor) Kittamaquund, who had assumed power the previous year after killing his brother Wannas.

Fort Washington, located near the community of Fort Washington, Maryland, was for many decades the only defensive fort protecting Washington, D.C. The original fort, overlooking the Potomac River, was completed in 1809, and was begun as Fort Warburton, but renamed in 1808. During the War of 1812, the fort was destroyed by its own garrison during a British advance. The current historic fort—maintained by the National Park Service—was initially constructed in 1824. It is a stone structure with a good cannon shot down the Potomac River. The fort was extensively remodeled in the 1840s and 1890s. The Fort was turned over to the U.S. Department of the Interior in 1946 after its last military personnel departed.The expansive grounds of the present Fort Washington Park, with its extensive hiking/bicycle paths and river view, are a scenic venue for picnicking, fishing, and outdoor recreation. Historical re-enactments are held periodically at the Fort, and there is a small museum. In 2006, repairs were done to shore up the crumbling outer wall, in preparation for the 200th anniversary. The Fort Washington Light, located below the fort, was established in 1857. The current tower, standing 28 feet tall, was constructed in 1882.

Accokeek Creek Site, also known as Moyaone, is an archaeological site in Prince George's County, Maryland, located along the Potomac River across from Mount Vernon in today's Piscataway Park, which was inhabited intermittently since 2000 BC. Accokeek Creek Site was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1964.

Piscataway Creek is an 18.6-mile-long (29.9 km) tributary of the Potomac River in Prince George's County, Maryland. The creek is a tidal arm of the Potomac for its final 2.5 miles (4.0 km), entering the Potomac at Fort Washington Park. Tinkers Creek is a tributary to Piscataway Creek, converging from the north 4.5 miles (7.2 km) upstream of the mouth of the Piscataway. The United States Geological Survey records two variant names for Piscataway Creek: Pascattawaye Creek and Puscattuway Creeke.The Fort Washington Light was built to provide guidance for mariners entering Piscataway Creek from the Potomac River.

Tantallon is an unincorporated community in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. Although a separate community, it is a part of the census-designated place (CDP) of Fort Washington. The ZIP code for the community is 20744. Tantallon reported as a census-designated place by the U.S. Census Bureau in 1980, which included much of the northern half of Fort Washington's census area. The population recorded was 9,945.

The Raid on Alexandria was a British victory during the War of 1812, which gained much plunder at little cost but may have contributed to the later British repulse at Baltimore by delaying their main forces.
