Leaside station

Leaside High School (LHS) is a school of between 900 and 1000 pupils in central-east Toronto, Ontario, Canada, at the corner of Eglinton and Bayview Avenues. The school was established in 1945 by the Leaside Board of Education and is located in the Leaside neighbourhood. Feeder schools for Leaside High School include Bessborough Public School, Bennington Heights Public School, Northlea Public School, and Rolph Road Public School. The school houses the French immersion program from Cosburn Middle School and Northlea E.M.S, along with the Extended French program from Milne Valley Middle School, Cosburn Middle School, and Valley Park Middle School. In late 2006, Leaside High was rated "Best Toronto School for Languages" by Toronto Life magazine, featuring courses in French, Spanish, Italian and others.

The Municipality of Metropolitan Toronto was an upper-tier level of municipal government in Ontario, Canada, from 1953 to 1998. It was made up of the old city of Toronto and numerous townships, towns and villages that surrounded Toronto, which were starting to urbanize rapidly after World War II. It was commonly referred to as "Metro Toronto" or "Metro". Passage of the 1997 City of Toronto Act caused the 1998 amalgamation of Metropolitan Toronto and its constituents into the current City of Toronto. The boundaries of present-day Toronto are the same as those of Metropolitan Toronto upon its dissolution: Lake Ontario to the south, Etobicoke Creek and Highway 427 to the west, Steeles Avenue to the north, and the Rouge River to the east.

The CNIB Foundation (French: Fondation INCA) is a volunteer agency and charitable organization dedicated to assisting Canadians who are blind or living with vision loss, and to provide information about vision health for all Canadians. Founded in 1918 as the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (French: Institut national canadien pour les aveugles) to assist soldiers who had been blinded in the First World War, CNIB originally offered sheltered care and specialized employment to people with vision loss. It has since expanded to include other programs and services, including research, public education, rehabilitation counselling and training, advocacy and an alternative-format library for people living with a print disability. It is a member of the Braille Authority of North America.

Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital is Canada's largest children's rehabilitation hospital. It is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was founded in 1899, by a group of community-minded women who met in Toronto to discuss the creation of a "Home for Incurable Children". As of 2005, the Centre provides hospital care, outpatient clinics, an integrated kindergarten school programme, assistive technology services and community outreach activities to about 7,000 children and youth with disabilities and their families each year. The most common conditions are cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury, muscular dystrophy, amputation, epilepsy, spina bifida, and cleft lip and palate, and a range of developmental disabilities including autism. It is associated with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Prior to 2006, the centre was called the Bloorview MacMillan Children's Centre. From 1957 to the mid-1980s, it was known as the Ontario Crippled Children's Centre (OCCC). Bloorview part of the hospital's name came from their former home at 192 Bloor Street East, also known as Bloorview. The MacMillan part came from Dr. Hugh MacMillan, a pathologist who became the former assistant administrator and hospitalist at the hospital after he fell ill with polio. His name was added to the hospital in 1985. Today the hospital is named for donors Susanne and Bill Holland. Bill Holland was CEO of CI Financial Corporation.Bloorview Kids Foundation is the largest foundation supporting childhood disability in Canada. The Foundation was established in 1996 to inspire community interest and raise funds in support of children and youth with disabilities at Bloorview Kids Rehab. The site of the old Bloorview Hospital on Sheppard Avenue East in North York was sold to developers, though Bloorview retains a nursery centre in Forest Hill. Since 2006, the hospital is located on 150 Kilgour Road, between Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the community of Leaside. Notable researchers at the hospital include Evdokia Anagnostou.

Leaside (/'liːˌsaɪd/) is an affluent neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located northeast of Downtown Toronto, in the vicinity of Eglinton Avenue East and Bayview Avenue. The area takes its name from William Lea and the Lea family, who settled there in the early years of the 19th century. The area first developed as farmland along with Toronto through the 19th century. It was incorporated as a town in 1913. In 1967, it amalgamated with the township of East York to form the borough of East York. In 1998, it became part of the city of Toronto. It is commonly seen as one of the most expensive and exclusive neighbourhoods in the city with a median household income of $129,930, serving upper-middle-class families.

Bridle Path–Sunnybrook–York Mills is a municipal and census district in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and it is the name officially designated by Toronto City Hall. Traditionally, Torontonians regard this area as five distinct neighbourhoods that were formerly in North York before it was amalgamated into Toronto in 1998. The area is part of the federal and provincial electoral district of Don Valley West, and Toronto electoral ward 25: Don Valley West (North).

The First Christian Reformed Church of Toronto is a congregation of the Christian Reformed Church in North America in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is one of the more liberal churches in its classis and the denomination. It was the first CRC parish to call a woman minister and declared itself open to gays and lesbians in committed relationships serving as deacons and elders. This was later rescinded in the face of pressure from the Toronto Classis (the leaders of Christian Reformed churches in the area).

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC), commonly known as Sunnybrook Hospital or simply Sunnybrook, is an academic health science centre located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is the largest trauma centre in Canada and one of two trauma centres in Toronto; the other being St. Michael's Hospital. Sunnybrook is a teaching hospital, fully affiliated with the University of Toronto. The hospital is home to Canada's largest veterans centre, located in the Kilgour Wing and the George Hees Wing of the hospital, where World War II and Korean War veterans are cared for. Sunnybrook has made surgical breakthroughs in its history, including in 2015 when the world's first non-invasive opening of the blood–brain barrier was done.

North Toronto is a former town and informal district located in the northern part of the Old Toronto district in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Currently occupying a geographically central location within the city of Toronto, the Town of North Toronto was incorporated in 1890, when much of the area was still farmland, and annexed by Toronto in 1912. The name is still used to refer to the area in general, although Yonge–Eglinton and Midtown Toronto are officially used. The former town was bounded on the south by Moore Avenue east to Bayview Avenue, north to Eglinton Avenue, west to Bruce, north to Fairfield, west to the west boundary of Mount Hope Cemetery, then north to north of Glen Echo, west to Yonge, north to north of McNairn Avenue, then west to a line just west of Elm Road. The boundary continues south to just north of Glenview Avenue and Avenue Road, then west to a line with Proudfoot Avenue, then south to just north of Briar Hill, then south on Castlewood to Roselawn, then south on Latimer to Eglinton Avenue. The boundary continues east on Eglinton to Elmsthorpe, then south to the former rail line south of Chaplin Crescent, then east to Yonge.

Laird is an underground light rail transit (LRT) station under construction on Line 5 Eglinton, a new line that is part of the Toronto subway system. It is located in the Leaside neighbourhood in East York at the intersection of Laird Drive and Eglinton Avenue. It is scheduled to open in 2022.This station's entrances are both on the south side of Eglinton. The main entrance is at the southwest corner of the Laird Drive intersection replacing a small strip mall and the secondary one is east of that in the Leaside Centre parking lot, just beyond the Pier 1 Imports store.On the east side of the station, there is a third track between the eastbound and westbound tracks, either to store a train or to allow a train to change direction due to an emergency or a change in service. On the west side of the station, there is a diamond crossover. Laird station is the easternmost underground station in the main tunnel; the line will emerge onto Eglinton about 250 metres (820 ft) east of Brentcliffe Drive and change to predominantly on-street operation in a dedicated right-of-way in the centre of the street east to Kennedy station. Destinations include the many commercial establishments to the southeast: Leaside Centre, the SmartCentres on Laird, and the Leaside Business Park on Eglinton. Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne officiated at the ground-breaking for the station on June 30, 2016.

Northern Secondary School (often referred to as Northern Secondary, Northern, or NSS) is a public high school in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It teaches grades 9 through 12. It is a part of the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). Prior to Amalgamation of Toronto in 1998, it was within the Toronto Board of Education (TBE). The closest TTC subway station is Eglinton. Northern has long-standing rivalries with nearby high-school North Toronto Collegiate Institute and also with Central Technical School, Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute, York Mills Collegiate Institute and Leaside High School.
