Mactan is a densely populated island located a few kilometers (~1 mile) east of Cebu Island in the Philippines. The island is part of Cebu province and it is divided into the city of Lapu-Lapu and the municipality of Cordova. The island is separated from Cebu by the Mactan Channel which is presently crossed by three bridges: the Cebu–Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), the Mactan–Mandaue Bridge, and the Marcelo Fernan Bridge. The island covers some 65 square kilometres (25 sq mi) and has a population of 527,071 as of 2020, making it the nation's most densely populated island. Along with Olango Island Group, the isles are administered by a city and a municipality covering 75.25 square kilometres (29.05 sq mi). Mactan–Cebu International Airport is located on the island.

Lapu-Lapu City, officially the City of Lapu-Lapu (Cebuano: Dakbayan sa Lapu-Lapu; Filipino: Lungsod ng Lapu-Lapu), is a 1st class highly urbanized city in the Central Visayas region of the Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 497,604 people.It was formerly known as Opon, the city being renamed to its present name in 1961. It is one of the cities that make up Metro Cebu in the Philippines. It is located in the province of Cebu, administratively independent from the province, but grouped under Cebu by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). Mactan–Cebu International Airport, the second busiest airport in the Philippines, is located in Lapu-Lapu City.

Korean Air Flight 631 (KE631/KAL631) was a scheduled passenger flight from Incheon International Airport near Seoul, South Korea to Mactan–Cebu International Airport in Metro Cebu, Philippines. On October 23, 2022, the Airbus A330-300 operating this flight overran the runway while landing in Cebu due to hydraulic failure. Despite what reports described as a "terrifying close call," all passengers and crew members survived without injuries. However, the aircraft was damaged beyond repair and written off as a result of the accident, making it the 14th hull loss of an Airbus A330.The crash is the 17th Korean Air crash since 1970 that resulted in a total write off of aircraft and the first in 23 years.

Lapu-Lapu City College (LLCC) is an educational institution in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, Philippines. It is located at Barangay Basak and Barangay Gun-ob. It was established through the City Ordinance No. 354-2010, designed to serve indigent students of the city by providing them access to quality and affordable education.

The Mactan–Mandaue Bridge, officially known as Serging Veloso Osmeña Jr. Bridge, also known as the First Cebu–Mactan Bridge and First Bridge locally, is a truss bridge that crosses the Mactan Channel and connects the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu City in Metro Cebu, Philippines. It is one of three bridges that span across the Mactan Channel, the other being the Marcelo Fernan Bridge and the Cebu–Cordova Link Expressway, and connects the islands of Cebu and Mactan.

The Mactan Channel, also known as Opon Channel, is a channel in Cebu, Philippines. It runs between mainland Cebu island and the smaller island of Mactan. The body of water is located within Metro Cebu, separating the localities of Mandaue and Cebu City in mainland Cebu and Lapu-Lapu City on Mactan. It is one of the three channels that connect the Cebu Strait to the Camotes Sea — the other two being the Hilutangan Channel and the Olango Channel.

Mactan–Cebu International Airport (IATA: CEB, ICAO: RPVM) is an international airport serving Cebu and serves as the main gateway to the Central Visayas region in the Philippines. Located on a 797-hectare (1,970-acre) site in Lapu-Lapu City on Mactan, it is the second busiest airport in the Philippines. The airport serves as a hub for Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines, and as an operating base for Philippines AirAsia. The airport is managed by the Mactan–Cebu International Airport Authority and operated by the GMR–Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation.

Mactan–Benito Ebuen Air Base, originally known as Mactan Air Base, (IATA: CEB, ICAO: RPVM) is an active military airbase of the Philippine Air Force (PAF). It is located on the island of Mactan, Cebu, in the Visayas region of the Philippines. It shares its single runway with the civilian Mactan–Cebu International Airport. Mactan Air Base was originally built by, and was a facility of the United States Air Force (USAF), until the American military units left the country in 1991, whereby full and total control was handed over to the Philippine Air Force.

Marcelo Fernan Bridge, also known as Second Cebu–Mactan Bridge and the Second Bridge locally, is an extradosed cable-stayed bridge located in Metro Cebu in the Philippines. It crosses Mactan Channel connecting Mandaue in mainland Cebu to Lapu-Lapu City in Mactan Island. It is currently the second-longest cable-stayed bridge in the Philippines after Cebu–Cordova Link Expressway which also crosses the Mactan Channel. Before it was named the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, it was also called the Consolacion Bridge (which was a temporary name), owing to its proximity to the municipality of Consolacion, which is 1.6 miles (2.6 km) from the north end of the bridge. It is one of three bridges crossing Mactan Channel, the others being Mactan–Mandaue Bridge (opened in 1973) and the aforementioned Cebu–Cordova Link Expressway (opened in 2022).

The Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School (MCCNHS) is a public secondary comprehensive school of the City of Mandaue, Cebu. It has two campuses, the main (located in Brgy. Centro) and the annex (situated in Brgy Looc). The annex campus is located behind the Norkis Park and access to the other side can be had by way of a covered pedestrian overpass which spanned DM Cortes St. The main campus is situated between the Mandaue City Engineer's Office Building (south) and the Department of Education Mandaue City Division Building (north).

The Mandaue City College (MCC) is a government-recognized higher education institution in Mandaue, Philippines, established for deserving students, mostly graduates from barangay high schools, who have no access to education in mainstream private colleges or universities. There is another school with duplicate name called Mandaue City College but is now known as Paulus Cañete College (MCC Basak), but it is not affiliated with this school.This is the only CHED-accredited local government higher educational institution in the City of Mandaue.

Mandaue City Central School is the oldest school in Mandaue City in the Philippines. It occupies a school site with an area of more than 20,000 square meters. It is located along C. Ouano Street in central Mandaue City, and belongs to the Central District. For several decades, Mandaue City Central School stood as the only school in the Central District until three new schools were established in the 1990s. The oldest building, Gabaldon Building, was built in 1904.
