South Elkins, West Virginia

First Ward School is a historic school building located at Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia. It was built in 1907, is a two-story brick masonry structure, with full basement and sandstone trim. It has a slate covered hipped roof and is in the Classical Revival style. The interior features hard maple flooring and quarter-sawn oak staircases, wainscotings, built-in bookcases, doors, moldings, and trim work. It was built as a combined elementary and high school. It served as an elementary school alone from 1926 to 1976, when the building was retired as a school.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

Elkins is a city in and the county seat of Randolph County, West Virginia, United States, along the Tygart Valley River. The community was incorporated in 1890 and named in honor of Stephen Benton Elkins, a U.S. Senator from West Virginia. The population was 6,950 at the 2020 census and estimated at 6,895 in 2021. Elkins is home to Davis and Elkins College and the Mountain State Forest Festival, held in early October every year.

Riverside School is a historic school building located at Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia. It was built between 1902 and 1905, as a one-story, rectangular red brick structure, measuring 56 feet, 6 inches, by 34 feet. A second story was added in 1928, when it became a four-year high school. It has a hipped roof and a sandstone foundation. It was originally built as a school for African American students, and remained so until the 1954 desegregation order and the school was closed.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

Baldwin-Chandlee Supply Company-Valley Supply Company is a historic commercial building located at Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia. It is a two-story, twelve bay brick building in three sections. The first section was built in 1905; the second, and center, section, was built in 1923; the third section was built about 1947.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

Elkins Milling Company, also known as Darden's Mill, is a historic grist mill located at Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia. It is a three-story timber frame structure, eight bays long and three bays deep. It was built in 1902, and expanded and at various points in the 20th century. The building served Elkins and the surrounding area as a merchant grain mill and feed store.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.As of 2015, the building is home to the West Virginia Railroad Museum.

Dr. John C. Irons House, also known as the Dr. S. G. Moore Home, is a historic home located at Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia. It was built in 1889, and is a two-story Italianate frame dwelling with drop wood siding, a brick foundation and a "T"-shape plan with rear one-story addition. It has a low pitched gable end to the side with a two-story projecting angled bay added about 1911.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

Gov. H. Guy Kump House is a historic home located at Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia. It was designed by noted Washington, D.C.-architect Clarence L. Harding and built in 1924–1925, as a home for West Virginia Governor Herman G. Kump (1877–1962) and his wife Edna Hall Scott Kump (1887–1957). It is a 2+1⁄2-story, 42 foot square, red brick dwelling with a steeply pitched, slate covered gable roof. The front facade features a shallow Doric order entrance portico and it has a porte cochere and sun porch. The house is in a Neo-Federal Revival style with Neo-Georgian Revival elements. In 2008, the house was willed to the city of Elkins.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

It encompasses 65 contributing buildings in the central business district of Elkins. It includes mostly commercial buildings constructed in the late-19th and early-20th century. Notable buildings include the Dann Building (1897), Randolph Company (1896), Randolph Hotel (1893), Wallace Bakery (1895), railroad depot (1908), Ward Building (1908), First United Methodist Church (1904), Hotel Delmonte (1899), Darden Block (1906), Brown Building (1906), Stalnaker Block (1900), and Post Office and Federal Building (now City Hall, 1917).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.

Taylor-Condry House, also known as "Ednalea," is a historic home located at Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia. It was built in 1880–1881, on the site of an 1820s structure. It is a two-story masonry building on a stone foundation in the Colonial Revival style. It is based upon the design of Washington's "Mount Vernon," and has a red asphalt shingle hipped roof with four gabled dormers and topped by a cupola. It features a full, two story columned portico that extends along the full facade of both the front and north side elevation and includes nine Tuscan order columns.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Randolph County Courthouse and Jail is a historic courthouse and jail located at Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia. The two buildings were built between 1902 and 1904. They are constructed of brick and faced with stone with contrasting smooth and textured stone trim. The courthouse measures 103 feet by 76 feet, with a tower flanking the entrance pavilion at 150 feet tall. It features a rounded arch entrance in the Richardsonian Romanesque style. The jail features a massive conical-roofed corner tower.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church is a historic Presbyterian church at 450 Randolph Avenue in Elkins, Randolph County, West Virginia, United States. It was originally built in 1894 and 1895 after designs prepared by the Baltimore architect Charles E. Cassell. In 1921, an Akron plan Sunday School building was added to the north by Clarence L. Harding of Washington D. C. The building consists of a nave, an engaged tower, and a gable roofed structure located perpendicular to the nave. It is built of a granular conglomerate stone consisting of large, transparent quartz crystals bound in clay or silica. The style is Gothic, with Romanesque and eclectic influences.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
