Manassas Sandstone

The Bull Run Mountains are a mountain range of the Blue Ridge Mountains in northern Virginia in the United States. Located approximately 20 miles (32 km) east of the main chain, across the Loudoun Valley. The Bull Run Mountains, together with Catoctin Mountain in Virginia and Maryland, make up the easternmost front of the Blue Ridge. The mountain range is the home of the Virginia Outdoors Foundation's Preserve at Bull Run Mountains, which is a state-designated Natural Area Preserve dedicated to the scientific and educational potential of the region. The Preserve at Bull Run Mountains has over seven miles of trails that are open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays - year round. The mountain range also holds several communities of residents, which includes the Bull Run Mountain Estates. Interstate 66, the John Marshall Highway (Virginia Route 55) and the Manassas Gap Railroad pass through the range at Thoroughfare Gap.

It is known for its association with Edmund Berkeley (1824-1915), one of four brothers who led the 8th Virginia Infantry during the American Civil War and who later became a local philanthropist and led many veterans' peace and commemorative activities.

Mt. Atlas is a historic home and national historic district located near Haymarket, Virginia, United States. It was built about 1795 and is a 2+1⁄2-story, three-bay, Georgian style, frame dwelling with a single-pile, side hall plan. It has a 1+1⁄2-story rear ell dated to the late-19th century and a two bay front porch. The house features a single exterior stone chimney, a metal gable roof, and a molded, boxed cornice with modillions. Also included in the district are a smokehouse and the sites of the former kitchen and a carriage house.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Waverly, also known as Waverley, is a historic house located near Middleburg, Fauquier County, Virginia. The original section was built about 1790, and later enlarged about 1830, and enlarged and remodeled in the 1850s. It is a single-pile, center-hall, two-story dwelling, a typical example of an I-house. It has a long, two-story rear ell and has Gothic Revival style decorative detailing. The front facade features a full-width two-story portico with six square piers supporting a flat roof with a plain wooden parapet. The house was renovated after 1940 by architect David Adler.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.Peyton House, built during 1831–34 in Raymond, Mississippi, appears to have been modeled upon Waverly.

Locust Bottom, also known as Rollingwood Farm, is a historic home and national historic district located near Haymarket, Prince William County, Virginia. The main house was built about 1811, and is a two-story, four-bay, Federal style, brick dwelling with a single-pile, modified central-hall plan. It has end chimneys, a metal gable roof, a molded brick cornice, and a kitchen wing which predates the main house. The two-story rear frame addition was added in the late-19th century. Also included in the district are the shop, the carriage house, the two chicken houses, the brooder house, the milk house, the horse barn, the tenant house, corn crib, and the remains of a smokehouse.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The Broad Run–Little Georgetown Rural Historic District encompasses a large rural landscape in northeastern Fauquier County, Virginia, and a small portion of neighboring Prince William County, Virginia. The district covers about 9,500 acres (3,800 ha) of rolling hills, that has an agricultural history dating to the 18th century. It is roughly divided by the John Marshall Highway (Virginia State Route 55), and is bounded on the west by The Plains, the east by the Bull Run Mountains, and the south by Pignut Mountain.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016. It includes two individually listed properties: Heflin's Store, and the Beverley Mill.

Burrland Farm Historic District is a historic home and farm complex and national historic district located near Middleburg, Fauquier County, Virginia. The district encompasses 22 contributing buildings, 2 contributing sites, 14 contributing structures, and 1 contributing object on a 458-acre thoroughbred horse breeding and training farm. The buildings were built between 1927 and 1932, and include a Georgian Revival style training barn, a polo barn, a stallion barn, two broodmare barns, a yearling barn, a field shed, an equipment shed, a farm manager's house / office, a trainer's cottage, a mess hall quarters, a foreman's dwelling, three mash houses, five garages, a pumphouse, and a feed and storage warehouse. The contributing structures include a silo, a springhouse, three loading chutes, two teasing chutes, two rings, three run-in sheds, one sun hut and an entrance gate. The original Burrland house was built in 1879 and expanded in 1927 for William Ziegler Jr. by architect William Lawrence Bottomley. Ziegler sold the property in 1955 to Eleonora Sears, who "deliberately gutted and burned [the mansion] down" in 1961. She then sold the farm in 1966.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
