Killyleagh Castle

Killyleagh (; from Irish Cill Ó Laoch, meaning 'church of the descendants of Laoch') is a village and civil parish in County Down, Northern Ireland. It is on the A22 road between Belfast and Downpatrick, on the western side of Strangford Lough. It had a population of 2,787 people in the 2021 Census. It is best known for its twelfth century Killyleagh Castle. Killyleagh lies within the Newry, Mourne and Down district.

Killyleagh was a constituency represented in the Irish House of Commons until 1800. It was named for the village of Killyleagh.

Shrigley is a small village in County Down, Northern Ireland about a mile north-west of Killyleagh. It is named after Pott Shrigley in Cheshire. In the 2001 Census it had a population of 456. It lies within the Down District Council area.

Delamont Country Park is located on the shores of Strangford Lough in County Down, Northern Ireland. It covers an area of approximately 200 acres 2 km south of Killyleagh. It is currently maintained by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council having previously been under the control of Down District Council.

Gores Island, also known as Gore's Island, is an island in Strangford Lough, County Down, Northern Ireland. It is connected to nearby Castle Island, and thence to the mainland, by a narrow roadway (causeway) that is passable only at low tides. It has been inhabited previously, but has had no residents since the early 20th century.

Ardigon (from Irish Ard an Ghabhann 'height of the smith') is a rural townland in County Down, Northern Ireland. It has an area of 484.5 acres (1.961 km2). It is situated in the civil parish of Killyleagh and the historic barony of Dufferin, located 2 miles west of Killyleagh. It lies within the Newry, Mourne and Down District.

Ringhaddy (from Irish Rinn an Chadaigh 'point of the covenant') is a townland on the shores of Strangford Lough, County Down, Northern Ireland, 5 km south of Whiterock. It is in the civil parish of Killinchy and the historic barony of Dufferin.

Saul (Irish: Sabhall Phádraig) is a village in County Down, Northern Ireland, within the civil parish of Saul and Ballee.The villages lies to the east of Downpatrick and has strong links with Saint Patrick. It is claimed that when Saint Patrick arrived in Ireland in 432, strong currents swept his boat through the Strangford Lough tidal narrows and he landed where the Slaney River flows into the lough. The local chieftain, Dichu, was converted and gave him a barn (Old Irish saball, hence the placename) for holding services. Allegedly, Saint Patrick died in Saul Monastery on 17 March 461 and is buried in nearby Downpatrick. The modern "Saint Patrick's Memorial Church" is built on the reputed spot of this building and includes a replica round tower. Saul has expanded closer into Downpatrick with new estates being built such as Saul Meadows, Saul Acres and Saul Manor. The village has a soccer club and Gaelic football club St Patrick's GAC, formed in 1928.

Audleystown Court Tomb is a Neolithic dual court tomb located in Ballyculter parish, near the southern shore of Strangford Lough in County Down, Northern Ireland. The tomb was built during the period 3900–3500 BCE. It was first excavated by archaeologist, A.E. Collins in 1952. The Audleystown court tomb has a double courtyard-double burial chamber layout, which is unique to Ireland.

Saul Monastery is a former Christian monastery located in County Down, Northern Ireland. It is traditionally associated with the 5th-century Saint Patrick, who is said to have founded it shortly after arriving in Ireland, and having died there at the end of his missionary work.

Killinchy (from Irish Cill Dhuinsí, meaning 'Duinseach’s church') is a townland and small village in County Down, Northern Ireland. It is two miles inland from the western shores of Strangford Lough in the Borough of Ards and North Down. It is situated in the townland of the same name, the civil parish of Killinchy and the historic barony of Dufferin. It had a population of 539 people (205 households) in the 2011 Census. (2001 Census: 492 people) The village sits on a hill overlooking Strangford Lough. The nearby settlement of Balloo is treated as part of Killinchy. Sketrick Castle is located near Killinchy and is estimated to date back to the 15th century. The Annals of the Four Masters record the capture of the castle in 1470. It was intact until the end of the 19th century when a storm demolished much of it. In 1957 a stone subterranean passage was discovered. Killinchy has a community hall and a children's playground. Killinchy has three Churches, Killinchy Presbyterian Church, Killinchy Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church and Killinchy Church of Ireland. In 1978 a new Church Hall, car park and playing fields were built, on the opposite side of the road, to complement the Anderson Memorial Hall (built 1898). The Moore Graveyard sits at the top of the car park.
