Van Winkle–Fox House is located in Oakland, Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 10, 1983.

Oakland is a borough in Bergen County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey and a suburb of New York City. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 12,748, a decrease of six people from the 2010 census count of 12,754, which in turn reflected an increase of 288 (+2.3%) from the 12,466 counted in the 2000 census.Oakland was incorporated as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on April 8, 1902, from portions of Franklin Township (now Wyckoff). The name comes from the white oak trees in the area.

High Mountain is a mountain on the Bergen and Passaic county line, New Jersey. The peak rises to 1,106 feet (337 m). It is part of the Ramapo Mountains, and is not to be confused with the like-named High Mountain in the Preakness Range of the Watchung Mountains. High Mountain is partially within Ringwood State Park.

Ramapo Mountain State Forest is a 4,200-acre (17 km2) state forest in Bergen and Passaic Counties in New Jersey. The park is operated and maintained by the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry. The park offers hiking, hunting, canoeing, fishing (including ice fishing), cross-country skiing, horseback riding and mountain biking. Several trails lead to views of the New York City skyline. The 1,417 acres (5.73 km2) Ramapo Lake Natural Area within the park has several trails to excellent views from rock outcroppings and ledges. A 120-acre (0.5 km2) mountain lake provides fishing and birdwatching (but no swimming). The forest borders the Ramapo Valley County Reservation, a part of the Bergen County park system, and Ringwood State Park in Bergen and Passaic counties. It is part of a trail system which runs along the ridge of the Ramapo Mountains north through Mahwah, New Jersey and into Rockland County, New York. The forest contains the ruins of Van Slyke Castle, a popular destination for hikers.

The Van Allen House is located in Oakland, Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The house was built around 1740 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 24, 1973.

Oakland Military Academy was founded in Oakland, New Jersey in the 1930s by the Sarcka family. During the 1950s, the military curriculum was discontinued, and the academy was moved to New Windsor, New York. The academic program was discontinued in the early 1970s, although the Oakland School of Horsemanship continued until about 1980, closing after the passing of John Sarcka.

Ramapo Lake is a 120-acre man-made lake in Ramapo Mountain State Forest in Northern New Jersey.Ramapo Lake originally consisting of a 25-acre pond named Rotten Poel (Rats Pond) by the Dutch. It was enlarged and deepened by Jacob Rogers in the late 19th century when he built a stone dam across its outlet.

The New Jersey Japanese School (ニュージャージー日本人学校, Nyūjājī Nihonjin Gakkō, NJJS) is a private school, Japanese school located in Oakland, Bergen County, New Jersey, United States, in the New York City metropolitan area. It is one of the two Japanese day schools operated by the Japanese Educational Institute of New York (JEI; ニューヨーク日本人教育審議会 Nyūyōku Nihonjin Kyōiku Shingi Kai), a nonprofit organization which also operates two Japanese weekend school systems in the New York City area.The school's students are primarily Japanese expatriates. It has 59 students in grades 1–9 as of August 2022 with a student-teacher ratio of 4 to 1. The goal of the school is to prepare them for the Japanese educational system when the students eventually return to Japan. It occupies space rented from the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. As of 2009 it had 90 students.

The Oakland Public Schools is a comprehensive community public school district serving students in kindergarten through eighth grade from the borough of Oakland in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2018–19 school year, the district, comprising four schools, had an enrollment of 1,362 students and 132.2 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.3:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "I", the second-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.Students in ninth through twelfth grades for public school attend the schools of the Ramapo Indian Hills Regional High School District, a regional district serving students from Franklin Lakes, Oakland and Wyckoff. Students entering the district as freshmen have the option to attend either of the district's high schools, regardless of their residence, subject to a choice made during eighth grade. Schools in the district (with 2018–19 enrollment data from the National Center for Education Statistics) are Indian Hills High School, located in Oakland (1,062 students) and Ramapo High School, located in Franklin Lakes (1,222 students).

Matty Price Hill is a mountain in Bergen County, New Jersey. The peak rises to 906 feet (276 m), and overlooks the Ramapo River to the southeast. It is part of the Ramapo Mountains.

Indian Hills High School is a comprehensive four-year public high school serving students in ninth through twelfth grades, located in Bergen County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The school is a part of the Ramapo Indian Hills Regional High School District, serving students from Franklin Lakes, Oakland and Wyckoff. The high school is located in Oakland. Ramapo High School is the other high school in the district. Students from the three feeder districts may make the choice of which high school to attend by February of the year that they are in eighth grade.As of the 2022–23 school year, the school had an enrollment of 736 students and 85.7 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 8.6:1. There were 25 students (3.4% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 5 (0.7% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

The Ramapo Valley County Reservation, also known as the Ramapo Reservation, is a 4,000 acres (16 km2) county park located in Mahwah, New Jersey in Bergen County, bordering Ringwood State Park to the north and the Ramapo Mountain State Forest to the south. The park lies on the border of the Piedmont and Highlands geologic provinces. The park offers hiking along a mountain brook with a waterfall, fishing in the Ramapo River, Scarlet Oak Pond, MacMillan Reservoir, and tent camping. Trails connect to the network of trails in the adjoining state forest and state park. The park also affords carry-in access to the Ramapo River for canoe, kayak and raft owners. The Reservation is popular among students from nearby Ramapo College, less than a mile away on Route 202, and acts as the school's Environmental Science laboratory. The park is also a noted geocaching hotspot in conjunction with the aforementioned adjoining parks. The former Bergen County Police substation near the parking lot serves as the headquarters for New Jersey Search and Rescue.
