Paradiso is a Dutch music venue and cultural centre located in Amsterdam.

De Balie is a theatre and a centre for politics, culture and media, with a café-restaurant at Kleine-Gartmanplantsoen 10, at Leidseplein in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. De Balie specialises in a number of territories: politics, art, society, media and cinema, and regularly organises programs. These programs consistently bear the mark of a sharp and deeply analytical character; De Balie leaves no questions of social relevance unasked. Through talk shows, discussions, debates and theatre, De Balie mixes several points of view in a wayward and creative fashion. De Balie was founded in 1982 and is situated in the previous District Court, built around the end of the nineteenth century, which moved to the Parnassusweg in Amsterdam. Felix Rottenberg is co-founder of De Balie. Anil Ramdas was director from 2003 to 2005. Writer and journalist Yoeri Albrecht has been director from 1 December 2010, to present. He succeeded Ellen Walraven, who is currently working as a dramaturge at Toneelgroep Amsterdam. The current managing director is Femke Monaghan van Wachem. Next to the direction, the organisation of De Balie contains multiple departments including programming, communications, finances, technicians, building and system management and the Grandcafé.

In the evening of 6 July 2021, Dutch investigative journalist and crime reporter Peter R. de Vries was shot in the head after leaving the television studio of RTL Boulevard in Amsterdam where he had appeared as a guest. Several bullets were fired at him in the Lange Leidsedwarsstraat, near the Leidseplein, while he was walking to his car. He was taken to the VU University Medical Center in critical condition. The hospital came under heavy police protection that same evening. De Vries died of his injuries on 15 July 2021.

The Amsterdam Pipe Museum (formerly Dutch: Pijpenkabinet, "pipe cabinet") is a museum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, dedicated to smoking pipes, tobacco, and related paraphernalia. It holds the national reference collection (nl) in these areas.The permanent exhibition of the Amsterdam Pipe Museum displays over 2,000 items representing the variety of smoking pipes and utensils that have been used in all parts of the world over the past 25 centuries.

Auberge was a restaurant in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It was a fine dining restaurant that was awarded one Michelin star in 1980 and 1981.Head chef of Auberge was John Halvemaan.John Halvemaan and his wife Esther (as restaurant-manager) opened the restaurant in 1976. It was closed down in 1981, due to problems with the rent.

Holland Casino is a Dutch state-owned company and has the legal monopoly on gambling in the Netherlands, and has fourteen casinos located throughout the country. Profits from Holland Casino go directly to the Dutch treasury. In 2007, profit was around 267 million euros and in 2006 some 263 million euros.

Vossius was a restaurant in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It was a fine dining restaurant that held one Michelin star from 2002 to 2003.Co-owners of the restaurant were head chef Rob Kranenborg, maître d'hôtel John Vincke (1955-2007) and R. van Kampen.Vossius was a luxurious restaurant that aimed for three Michelin stars. The owners used the best materials available, including a custom built Molteni stove and ceilings decorated with gold leaf. The project ended in bankruptcy after two years. The economic malaise gave the final blow to the restaurant.

Against the Tide (Dutch: Tegen alle stromen in), sometimes referred to by its more literal translation as Against All Currents, by Rini Hurkmans, is a memorial sculpture honoring murdered Dutch journalist Peter R. de Vries who was shot on July 6, 2021, and died on July 15, 2021. It was unveiled on July 15, 2024. The sculpture is located in Leidseplein, which is a square in central Amsterdam, Netherlands. De Vries was the third person slain in connection to the Marengo trial. The unveiling took place exactly three years after his death and just months after De Vries' shooter and several collaborators were sentenced. The sculpture is located just meters from Lange Leidsedwarsstraat, where the shooting took place. The unveiling was presided by Femke Halsema, Mayor of Amsterdam and included four people who had been helped by de Vries' journalistic efforts. Hurkmans was inspired by a hand gesture in Pietà by the Virgin Mary who was cradling the lifeless body of her son, Jesus. During the unveiling, his daughter, Kelly de Vries, noted that the sculpture symbolized her father by connecting those who engage with it to the rules her father lived by. The sculpture bears the words "be who you are, stand up for minorities and the less fortunate, speak your mind honestly, and listen to your sense of justice." in 41 languages. The quote came from messages de Vries has relayed to his two children. The creation of the sculpture is the subject of a Dutch language documentary film by Nederlandse Publieke Omroep, the Dutch Foundation for Public Broadcasting.

The Rijksmuseum (Dutch: [ˈrɛiksmyˌzeːjʏm] (listen)) is the national museum of the Netherlands dedicated to Dutch arts and history and is located in Amsterdam. The museum is located at the Museum Square in the borough Amsterdam South, close to the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, and the Concertgebouw.The Rijksmuseum was founded in The Hague on 19 November 1798 and moved to Amsterdam in 1808, where it was first located in the Royal Palace and later in the Trippenhuis. The current main building was designed by Pierre Cuypers and first opened in 1885. On 13 April 2013, after a ten-year renovation which cost € 375 million, the main building was reopened by Queen Beatrix. In 2013 and 2014, it was the most visited museum in the Netherlands with record numbers of 2.2 million and 2.47 million visitors. It is also the largest art museum in the country. The museum has on display 8,000 objects of art and history, from their total collection of 1 million objects from the years 1200–2000, among which are some masterpieces by Rembrandt, Frans Hals, and Johannes Vermeer. The museum also has a small Asian collection, which is on display in the Asian pavilion.

The Leidsepoort is a former landmark city gate in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, formerly located at what today is the Leidseplein. It was built in 1664 after a design by the city architect Daniël Stalpaert in 1664. It was torn down for traffic purposes in 1862.

Leidseplein (English: Leiden Square) is a square in central Amsterdam, Netherlands. It lies in the Weteringschans neighborhood (Centrum borough), immediately northeast of the Singelgracht. It is located on the crossroads of the Weteringschans, Marnixstraat and Leidsestraat.

The Spiegelgracht is a canal in the centre of Amsterdam, located near the Prinsengracht. Built in the 16th century, it is a part of the Canals of Amsterdam which have been designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
