Halswell Quarry operated between 1861 and 1990 before becoming the 60.4 hectares (149 acres) Halswell Quarry Park, one of many Christchurch City Council reserves. It offers a combination of walking and mountain biking tracks, historic sites, picnic areas, botanical collections, and six sister city gardens.

Lansdowne, also spelled Lansdown, is a locality south of Christchurch, New Zealand. Lansdowne is located on Old Tai Tapu Road and Early Valley Road. The roads are the boundary between two territorial authorities, with the north and east sides belonging to Christchurch City and the south and west sides to Selwyn District. Lansdowne was the name of a sheep station given in 1851 by Guise Brittan, who named it after the Lansdown in Bath, Somerset. The Lansdowne Stables off Old Tai Tapu Road are registered by Heritage New Zealand as a Category II heritage item. Brittan built his first house on the property in 1857 but it burned down the following year. Brittan then built a substantial house with stones quarried from the nearby Halswell Quarry, but went bankrupt in the process. The next owner of the property was Edward Stafford. The property was next sold after Stafford died in 1901. Lansdowne Homestead and the adjacent park were bought in 1995 by Haydn Rawstron who gifted the property to a trust founded by him (the John Robert Godley Memorial Trust, with the name commemorating the founder of Canterbury).

Originally a separate village, Halswell is now a residential suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand, located 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) southwest of Cathedral Square on State Highway 75.

Westmorland is an outer suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand. It is situated mostly on a hillside and is a recent development of the city, dating back to the late 1970s. It is still under development, with the end of Pentonville Close being recently settled with modern family homes typical of middle to upper-middle class New Zealanders, predominantly in the usual bungalow style, called Worsley Estate. There is a road nearby called 'Worsleys Road'. However this is not connected to Worsley Estate at this time. Currently there is a lot of development happening at the top of the hill, going under the name of 'Westmorland Heights'. This is the final stage of the Westmorland development, and is expected to be completed in approx 2020, adding 250 homes to the suburb of Westmorland.

Cracroft is a south-west suburb of Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand. Cracroft was named for John Cracroft Wilson, who settled in this part of Christchurch at the bottom of the Port Hills Range in 1854. The Cracroft Residents' Association started lobbying for Cracroft to become a suburb in 1993, and the New Zealand Geographic Board gazetted the suburb in 1999, splitting the area from Cashmere.

Aidanfield is a suburb in the south-west of Christchurch, New Zealand, about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) from the city centre. The land, which had been owned by the Good Shepherd Sisters since 1886, now incorporates the Mount Magdala Institute and the St John of God Chapel, which has a Category I heritage listing by the New Zealand Historic Places Trust (now Heritage New Zealand). The first residents moved into the suburb in 2002. The developer caused controversy in 2007–2008 by applying to have a group of farm buildings demolished to allow for further subdivision. Christchurch City Council was widely criticised for approving the demolition despite the buildings having had a heritage listing in the Christchurch City Plan.

Oaklands is a southern suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand. The area is predominantly residential. When Halswell House was purchased by Peter Watson (1869?–1947), he renamed it Oaklands after the trees lining the driveway. A subsequent owner, Karl Scott (1910–1997) subdivided the property about 1960.

Marylands School was a residential school for children with learning difficulties in Christchurch, New Zealand. It was opened in 1955 and run by the Roman Catholic order Brothers Hospitallers of St. John of God. The school was in Middleton but moved into premises in Halswell vacated in the late 1960s by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd. It changed name in 1984 to Hogben School when it was taken over by the Ministry of Education as a State special school. The land and school buildings had been owned by the Government since the 1970s when money was given for it to be rebuilt after a fire.

Hoon Hay is an outer suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand, located at the base of the Port Hills and about 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) southwest of Cathedral Square. The area was named by Captain Wickham Talbot Harvey, a captain of the British Royal 10th Hussars, who moved to the area in 1852 and named it after the farm near Hatton, Derbyshire where he grew up. Harvey only stayed in the area for four years, before a fire destroyed his property and prompted him to return to the United Kingdom. Further fires in the following years destroyed the woodland which was on the property, including several large Tōtara, causing it to be converted into farmland. Remnants of this forest remain visible in the area, including with tree stumps being discovered during flood mitigation work on the Ōpāwaho / Heathcote River.Hoon Hay maintains aspects of both a rural and suburban surrounding. It is bordered by the suburbs of Hillmorton and Spreydon to the north, Somerfield and Cashmere to the east and Halswell to the southwest, along with new developments in the adjacent Port Hills. Despite this, the suburb is also bordered by farmland and the nearby Hoon Hay valley, maintaining the suburb as semi-rural. The Cashmere Stream, a tributary of the Ōpāwaho / Heathcote River, flows down the valley and through the suburb.

Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub is a multi-sports complex located in the suburb of Aidanfield in the city of Christchurch, in New Zealand's South Island. The complex contains international standard sports facilities and was developed using a partnership between Christchurch City Council and regional sports organisations. Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub was officially opened on 8 March 2019.

Kennedy's Bush Scenic Reserve is a public conservation reserve in the Port Hills south of Christchurch, New Zealand. It sits above the suburb of Kennedys Bush on the northern side of the hills, just north of Ōrongomai / Cass Peak. The reserve is covered in dense native bush, and at 130 hectares (320 acres) it is the largest remaining patch of native bush on the Port Hills.

Centennial Park is a public park located in the suburb of Spreydon in the southwestern part of Christchurch, New Zealand. It is bordered by Lyttelton Street to the east, Rose Street to the south, Heathcote River to the west and Pioneer Recreation and Sport Centre to the north. It was originally a shingle pit, extending as far north as Sparks Road. Christchurch City Council purchased the land in 1937 for use as a landfill. In 1950, the city's centennial year, it was announced that the landfill was to be converted to a park. The park was opened on 10 September 1955 by Robert Macfarlane (as Mayor of Christchurch) and Mabel Howard (in her role as chairman of the Reserves Committee). A memorial plaque is placed on the corner of Lyttelton Street and Sparks Road.Centennial Park is used predominantly as a soccer venue during the winter months, and a cricket venue during summer months. There are a total of fifteen sports fields in the park consisting of three cricket outfields, two intermediate soccer fields, three junior soccer fields, one senior soccer field, and six touch rugby fields. The park also includes a playground, barbecue, and public toilets.
