The station is currently owned by the University of Southern Mississippi.WUSM offers a variety of public affairs programs and music that would otherwise not be available. WUSM's diverse programming includes American Roots Music jazz, blues, Adult Album Alternative, alternative rock and local artists. WUSM has embarked on a major awareness campaign in January 2011. Starting with a yearly golf tournament, A Round for Roots Radio, Roots Radio 88.5 spent 2011 engaging in a social media campaign to raise awareness and listenership in the community. WUSM hosted a series of concerts in conjunction with fall football games on the University of Southern Mississippi campus. Known as the WUSM Tailgate Concert Series, eight artists played tailgating events at the home games in 2011. The Longleaf Trace is a 44-mile (71 km) paved pedestrian, equestrian, rollerblade, and bicycle trail located between Hattiesburg and Prentiss, Mississippi, USA. The Trace was constructed in 2000. It follows a portion of the abandoned Mississippi Central Railroad line. It has nine stations along its route (Prentiss, Ed Parkman Road, Carson, Bassfield, Lott Circle, Sumrall, Epley, Clyde Depot, Jackson Road). Trail access is from public road access points only, located an average of 5 miles (8.0 km) apart. The following roads hold a rest stop and parking lot accessing the Trace. In Hattiesburg: University of Southern Mississippi, West 4th street and Jackson Road. The slope of the Trace is very gradual, rising 50 ft / mi at the steepest accessible segment. Rest stops are provided around every two miles, and weather stops are located at reasonable distances. Mile markers ease navigating the trail. Wildlife such as wild rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, song birds and deer can be seen along the trace. The trace also supports a variety of flora, including flowering Dogwood and Magnolia trees, and fragrant honeysuckle and wisteria. Many of the trees between Hattiesburg and Sumrall have identification signposts.

Pete Taylor Park is a baseball stadium located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, that is home to the Southern Miss Golden Eagles baseball team.In 2011, Southern Miss announced the expansion of Pete Taylor Park. The plans include adding 1,358 seats and expanding the seating capacity to 4,300. The expansion was completed for the start of the 2012 season.

Reed Green Coliseum is an 8,095-seat multi-purpose arena in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, United States. Affectionately referred to by fans and local sportswriters as "The Yurt", it opened on December 6, 1965, and is home to the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) men's basketball team, women's basketball team and women's volleyball team. Prior to the Coliseum, USM's teams played at the USM Sports Arena, a 3,200-seat arena opened in 1949. It is the Hattiesburg area's premier sports and entertainment venue. It is named for Reed Green, who attended the university and went on to serve as its coach and athletics director. Subsequent renovations over the years, which brought larger dressing rooms, officials' areas and a meeting room, for members of the Eagles Club, have kept Green Coliseum one of the area's main events venues with more renovations to follow.It is also used for graduation ceremonies, civic events and concerts. As a concert venue, the Coliseum can seat nearly 9,100. The arena played host to the final show of the Rolling Thunder Revue tour, headed by Bob Dylan, on May 1, 1976.
