Ig, Ig

The Municipality of Ig (pronounced [ˈiːk]; Slovene: Občina Ig) is a municipality in central Slovenia. Its seat is the settlement of Ig. It was formed in 1995 from parts of the Municipality of Vič–Rudnik, until then one of the five municipalities that formed the Civic Assembly of Municipalities of Ljubljana. It is part of the traditional region of Inner Carniola and is now included in the Central Slovenia Statistical Region. In the past the area was mostly marshland, but now Ig is a suburban and industrialized municipality. In 2002, it had 5,445 inhabitants.

Kremenica (pronounced [kɾɛˈmeːnitsa]) is a settlement immediately southeast of Ig in central Slovenia. The entire Municipality of Ig is part of the traditional region of Inner Carniola. It is included in the Central Slovenia Statistical Region.

Ig Castle (Slovene: Grad Ig or Ižanski grad, also known as Grad Iški Turn, Turnek), also Sonnegg Castle (German: Schloß Sonnegg) or Zonek Castle (Slovene: grad Zonek), stands on Pungart Hill (elevation 366 meters or 1,201 feet) above the settlement of Ig, on the southern outskirts of Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.

On 23 August 2012, a hot air balloon on a commercial sightseeing flight crashed in stormy weather on the Ljubljana Marsh in central Slovenia, killing 6 of the 32 people on board.

Draga (pronounced [ˈdɾaːɡa]) is a small village in the Municipality of Ig in southeastern Slovenia. Until 2007, the area was part of the settlements of Dobravica and Sarsko. The village is part of the traditional region of Inner Carniola and is included in the Central Slovenia Statistical Region.

Iška Loka (pronounced [ˈiːʃka ˈloːka]; German: Igglack) is a village in the Municipality of Ig in central Slovenia, in the marshes just south of the capital Ljubljana. The entire municipality is part of the traditional region of Inner Carniola and is now included in the Central Slovenia Statistical Region. Surface finds of pottery and worked stone tools in the area point to Mesolithic, Chalcolithic, and Early Bronze Age settlement of the area.At the southern edge of the settlement, at the intersection of roads leading to Ig and Staje, there is a chapel-shrine with an image in relief. It dates from the 19th century.

Babna Gorica (pronounced [ˈbaːbna ɡɔˈɾiːtsa], in older sources Babina Gorica, German: Babnagoritza) is a former settlement in central Slovenia in the southwest part of Lavrica. It is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola and is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Central Slovenia Statistical Region.

Staje (pronounced [ˈstaːjɛ]; German: Staidorf) is a settlement west of Ig in central Slovenia. The entire Municipality of Ig is part of the traditional region of Inner Carniola and is now included in the Central Slovenia Statistical Region.

Daljna Vas (pronounced [ˈdaːlna ˈʋaːs], Slovene: Daljna vas, in older sources also Dalenja Vas, German: Doleinawaß) is a former village in central Slovenia in the Municipality of Škofljica. It is now part of the village of Lavrica. It is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola and is now included in the Central Slovenia Statistical Region.

Gumnišče (pronounced [ɡuˈmniːʃtʃɛ]) is a small village north of Pijava Gorica in the Municipality of Škofljica in central Slovenia. It lies on the edge of the marshlands south of Ljubljana. The municipality is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola and is now included in the Central Slovenia Statistical Region.The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research has identified its environment as being in danger from urban sprawl as a result of its proximity to Ljubljana.
