The Matsesta (Russian: Мацеста, Adyghe: Мэсты Псы,МэшIост) is a river in Krasnodar Krai, Russia, that flows into the Black Sea. The river rises in the southern ranges of the Alek mountains at an elevation of 900 metres (3,000 ft) above sea level and flows through the Khostinsky City District of the city of Sochi and into the Black Sea. It is 18 kilometres (11 mi) long, and has a drainage basin of 67.5 square kilometres (26.1 sq mi). The highest point in the river's basin is 1,003 metres (3,291 ft) above sea level. The river has numerous tributaries, the largest of which are the Tsanyk and Zmeyka. The Matsesta is most famous for its sources of mineral water. The name of the river translates in the Ubykh language and the Circassian (Adyghe) language as "fiery water", from the words mašč'o (fire) and psy (water). This was because people that immersed themselves in the water of the Matsesta found that their skin became red. There also exists a legend about a girl named Matsesta who invaded an underground kingdom in order to find the spirit of the mineral resources. She killed the spirit at the price of her own life and then brought the healing sources of the river to its surface. The Matsesta was mentioned for the first time in history in 137 when the Roman military commander and historian Arrian described the coast of the Black Sea and the river Matsesta in a letter to the emperor Hadrian.

Matsesta (Russian: Мацеста) is a microdistrict in Khostinsky City District in Sochi, Krasnodar Krai, Russia, primarily known as a spa and resort on the Black Sea coast. Matsesta is located in the mouth of the Matsesta River, half way between the center of Sochi and Adler. Matsesta is located in the Matsesta River valley and consists of four parts. Novaya Matsesta (New Matsesta) is located at the coast, Srednyaya Matsesta (Middle Matsesta) is upstream the river, and Staraya Matsesta (Old Matsesta) is even further from the sea. Verkhnyaya Matsesta (Upper Matsesta) is located uphill from Srednyaya Matsesta.

The Slava Metreveli Central Stadium (Russian: Центральный стадион имени Славы Метревели, Tsentralnyi Stadion imeni Slavy Metreveli) is a multi-purpose stadium in Sochi, Russia, named after the Soviet footballer. It is used mostly for football matches and sometimes in other sports disciplines. The stadium was opened 19 April 1964 football match between Syria and the RSFSR The stadium seats 10,200 people. Record attendance is set to 1/16 final match between the teams of the Cup of Russia FC Zhemchuzhina-Sochi and Rostov (Rostov-on-Don) (1:2, 17 July 2011) On 3 December 2010 the stadium was visited by Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin for the first time.

Mount Akhun (Ахун) is a stand-alone mountain in the Khostinsky City District of Sochi, Russia. Wedged between the Matsesta and Khosta rivers, this karst massif is the highest point of the Sochi littoral. The peak of Greater Akhun is 663 metres (2,175 ft) above sea level. Its summit is marked by a 100-foot-tall Romanesque tower. It was built in 1936 from limestone ashlar. The tower offers panoramic views of the Western Caucasus as far south as Gagra and Pitsunda. An 11-km-long serpentine road leads to the tower from the Sputnik Hotel. Lesser Akhun rises to an elevation of 501 m (1,644 ft). Nearby are the ruins of a medieval Christian church. The entire massif contains about 20 caves. The forests support 200 species of higher plants. The scenic Eagles' Rocks stretch along the right bank of the Agura River toward the Agura Falls. The mount was apparently sacred for the local Ubykh community. Its name translates from the Ubykh dialect as "the mountain giant".

Khostinsky City District (Russian: Хостинский райо́н) is one of four city districts of the city of Sochi in Krasnodar Krai, Russia. The city district borders Maykopsky District of the Republic of Adygea in the northeast, Adlersky City District in the southeast, Tsentralny City District in the west, and Lazarevsky City District in the northwest. In the southwest, it is bordered by the Black Sea. Population: 65,229 (2010 Census); 62,515 (2002 Census); 65,713 (1989 Census).

Sochi Thermal Power Plant (Russian: Сочинская ТЭС) is a power station in Sochi, Russia. It is part of the infrastructure constructed or improved for the 2014 Winter Olympics which was held in Sochi. There have been a total of 3 thermal power plants built with one combined heat and power plant along with 19 substations. The combined capacity of the power plants is 1,208 MWt. High and low has pressure pipelines were also added, with a total length of 654 km.

Sochi State University (Russian: Сочинский государственный университет) is a higher educational institution in the city of Sochi, Krasnodar Krai in southwest Russia. Located in buildings in the central district of the city. In April 2017, it became one of the regional core universities. As of 2018, the university has 5 faculties (tourism and service, economics and management processes, environmental engineering, socio-pedagogical, legal), University of Economics and Technology College. There are 22 departments, including 2 basic departments, 19 educational and scientific laboratories, a legal clinic, educational and training centers for students studying hotel and restaurant business - “Solar Wind” and “Atoll”, the Russian Language Center, etc. The total number About 7,000 people are enrolled in higher and secondary vocational education programs in all forms of training (taking into account the branch in Anapa), 4,000 of them are studying under the bachelor's programs.

The Cathedral of St. Michael the Archangel is the oldest Orthodox church in Sochi and the entire Black Sea Oblast of the former Russian Empire. Its construction was decreed by Grand Duke Michael Nikolaevich of Russia with a view to commemorating the victorious conclusion of the prolonged Caucasian War in 1864. The existing building was designed by Alexander Kaminsky. It was built between 1874 and 1890 with funds provided by Savva Mamontov and Count Felix Felixovich Sumarokov-Elston, among others. The church, long neglected by the Soviets, was restored in 1993. The domed baptistery and the sunday school were built next to the church in the 1990s.

The concert hall Festivalny is an entertainment facilities in the central region of Sochi, Krasnodar Krai, Russia.The opening of the hall took place on July 14, 1979.

Sochi railway station (Russian: Сочи) is the largest of the four railway stations in Sochi, and one of the largest railway stations in Krasnodar Krai. It is part of North Caucasus Railway and located in the Tsentralny City District of Sochi. It was renovated for the 2014 Winter Olympics, alongside Sochi's three other railway stations: Dagomys, Matsesta and Khosta.

The Marine Station or Marine Terminal (Russian: Морской вокзал) is a marine passenger terminal in the port of Sochi, Krasnodar Krai, Russia.

The Sochinsky okrug was a district (okrug) of the Black Sea Governorate of the Caucasus Viceroyalty of the Russian Empire. It bordered the Kuban Oblast to the north, the Tuapsinsky okrug to the west, the Sukhumi okrug to the east, and the Black Sea to the south. The area of the Sochinsky okrug mostly corresponds to the Krasnodar Krai region of the Russian Federation. The district was eponymously named for its administrative centre, Sochi.
