Lower Main Street Historic District (Lee, Massachusetts)

Lee is a town in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, United States. It is part of the Pittsfield, Massachusetts, metropolitan statistical area. The population was 5,788 at the 2020 census. Lee, which includes the villages of South and East Lee, is part of the Berkshires resort area.

Lee is a census-designated place (CDP) located in the town of Lee in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 2,051 at the 2010 census, out of 5,943 in the entire town of Lee.

The East Otis Schoolhouse is a historic school building at 2 Old Blandford Road in Otis, Massachusetts. Built before 1856, the one-room schoolhouse served the town until 1949, after which time it has sat largely vacant and unused. The building, a modest example of a Greek Revival district school, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2021.

Hyde School is a historic Romanesque Revival school at 130 High Street in Lee, Massachusetts. The school was built in 1894 from locally quarried marble. It is named for Alexander Hyde, who established the town's first school in his house on West Park Street, and was built on the site of the town's first public school.

Lee station is a former railroad station in Lee, Massachusetts. It was built in 1893 to serve passenger traffic on the Housatonic Railroad, which operated the tracks that run through the town between Pittsfield to the north and Connecticut to the south. It served as the town's main passenger station until passenger service was terminated in 1971 by the Penn Central Railroad, the NYNH&H's successor. In 1976 the building was converted to office use, and in 1981 it was rehabilitated and opened as a restaurant. It also serves excursions of the Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010 as Lee Station.

The Hyde House is a historic house at 144 West Park Street in Lee, Massachusetts. built in 1792 for the town's first minister and subsequently altered significantly, it is important for its historical association with education in the town, hosting a boarding school in the 19th century. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

Lee High School is a public high school in Lee, Massachusetts, United States. The school was founded in 1851 and serves students in grades nine through twelve from Lee and the nearby town of Tyringham. Students from neighboring Otis, Sandisfield and Becket. also have the option to attend Lee High School. Through its history and as the student population has increased, the school has transitioned through different buildings and locations. Today it shares a campus with the town's middle school. The schools are officially known as Lee Middle and High School.

The Golden Hill Bridge is a historic bridge on Golden Hill Road over the Housatonic River in Lee, Massachusetts. It is a lenticular pony truss bridge built c. 1885 by the Berlin Iron Bridge Company, and is the state's oldest surviving bridge of this type. It is one of only five Berlin Co. bridges in the Berkshires, and is the only known surviving bridge to implement modifications to the pony truss design patented by William O. Douglas in 1885. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Lenox Dale is a village in Lenox, Massachusetts, United States at the border of the town of Lee, along the Housatonic River. It is a small village, but a village nonetheless with its own post office (zip code 01242), school, two stores, and Catholic church. It is known for a large aprtment nearby a small closed off park. A small following happened after a local cat named Biscuit had a fictional religion made for him by a Youtuber. The main street in the town is Crystal Street. Crystal street got its name for the large amounts of crystals found in the area. In the earlier times, it depended upon the river to provide power for its paper mills. More recently the largest employer was Lenox Machine Company, which made paper industry equipment. Lenox Machine was acquired by Beloit Corp in 1979, which was acquired by Harnischfeger of Germany, which went bankrupt in 1999. It was then purchased by Groupe Laperrière & Verreault (GLV) of Canada. In April 2019 GLV was purchased by Valmet of Finland and incorporated into the company as their Mill Process Solutions (MPS) Division. There is also a marble quarry on the border with the town of Washington. In the 1940s and 1950s, Lenox Dale also had a package store, a second church, a Richfield gas station, A Mobil gas station, a Chrysler-Plymouth dealership, a barber shop, a cocker spaniel kennel, two grocery stores, a fire department, a resident constable, an elementary school and a beauty parlor. In earlier years it was called Lenox Furnace as there was a glass manufacturing facility there. In the 1700s and early 1800s Lenoxdale was a prominent spot for German and Scottish hunters. In the early twentieth century, many immigrants from Europe came to the area to work in the glass factories and sometimes in the mines. When the factories began to close down, the majority of the population and business began to leave. A trolleybus link had originally gone to Lenox, but later shut down.

Blantyre is one of the grand Berkshire "cottages" put up during the Gilded Age in Western Massachusetts. Built in 1902 by Robert Paterson, a wealthy New York City businessman, it is named for his mother's ancestral home in Scotland.

The Foxhollow School was a private boarding school for girls. Founded by Aileen M. Farrell in 1930 on the Foxhollow Farm in Rhinebeck, New York. The school was moved to the Lenox, Massachusetts former estate of the Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt family. The school expanded to the neighboring property, The Mount. Miss Farrell was a British citizen and Oxford University graduate, who never sought American citizenship. She led the school for forty years until 1970. The school closed in 1976 and the property became an inn. In 2017, it was announced the building would be converted to luxury apartments.Foxhollow School was one of several private secondary schools in the vicinity that occupied the properties of Gilded Age estates to close in the 1970s. These schools included Stockbridge School, Windsor Mountain School, Lenox School for Boys and Cranwell Preparatory School. The costs of maintaining these grand Berkshire Cottages and their sprawling grounds was one of the contributing causes of their closures.

The South Lee Historic District encompasses the historic portion of the village of South Lee in Lee, Massachusetts. Extending mainly along Massachusetts Route 102 (Pleasant Street) between Fairview Street and the Stockbridge town line, the village is a well-preserved 19th-century mill village, with fine Federal and Greek Revival buildings and a later 19th-century paper mill. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.
