The Tartu Linna-tütarlastekool (German: Stadttöcherschule zu Dorpat) was a girls' school active in Tartu in Estonia between 1804 and 1893. It belonged to the most prestigious educational institutions for girls in the Baltic.

The Tartu Credit Center Massacre (Estonian: Tartu Krediidikassa massimõrv) was the mass murder of 19 people in the basement of the former Credit Center in Tartu on 14 January 1919.The execution was carried out just before the Bolsheviks withdrew from Tartu by order of the Estonian Counter-Revolutionary Commission of the Commune of the Working People of Estonia. Its best-known victim was Platon, the first Estonian Orthodox bishop.

Tartu Public Library (Estonian: Tartu Linnaraamatukogu) is a public library in Tartu, Estonia.Its predecessor was the library which was established in 1913 by Tartu Rahvaraamatukogu Selts. The City Library was established in 1920. In 1928, this library was named into the Central City Library. In 1936, new rooms were finished in Kompanii Street (nowadays, the library is also located in Kompanii Street).Between 1936 and 1937, the library has about 36,000 volumes.Between 1952 and 1987, the library was named in honor of Nikolai Gogol (Estonian: N. Hugo Treffner Gymnasium (Estonian: Hugo Treffneri Gümnaasium; abbreviated as HTG) is a secondary school in Tartu, Estonia with special emphasis on science education. Founded by Hugo Treffner, it was the only large secondary school in 19th-century Estonia with predominantly Estonian students and no age restrictions. During the Estonian national awakening, it greatly contributed to the numbers of Estonian intellectuals.

Raekoja plats (English: Town Hall Square) is town square beside Tartu Town Hall (Estonian: Raekoda) in the center of the Tartu Old Town in Tartu, Estonia. It is a venue for numerous festivals like Tartu Hanseatic Days (Estonian: Tartu Hansapäevad), and several bars and restaurants locate in the near vicinity. The fountain and sculpture "Kissing Students" is located in front of Town Hall Square.

Kissing Students (Estonian: Suudlevad tudengid) is sculpture and fountain in Raekoja plats, Tartu, Estonia. The structure locates in front of Town Hall Square. The structure is one of the most recognised symbols of Tartu.The fountain was built in 1948 and it was used especially by newlyweds who sought to find luck for future when standing there.The sculpture was created in 1998 by Mati Karmin.

The siege of Tartu took place in 1224 and resulted in the fall of the last major center of Estonian resistance in the mainland provinces to the Christian conquest of Estonia.

The University of Tartu (UT; Estonian: Tartu Ülikool; Latin: Universitas Tartuensis) is a public research university located in the city of Tartu, Estonia. It is the national university of Estonia. It is the biggest and oldest university in the country. The university was founded under the name of Academia Gustaviana in 1632 by Baron Johan Skytte, the Governor-General of Swedish Livonia, Ingria, and Karelia, with the required ratification provided by King Gustavus Adolphus, shortly before the king's death on 6 November in the Battle of Lützen (1632).Nearly 14,300 students are at the university, of whom over 1,800 are foreign students. The language of instruction in most curricula is Estonian. In addition there are 30 English-taught programmes: 3 first level programmes and 27 master's level programmes, including the Erasmus Mundus programme Excellence in Analytical Chemistry.The historical buildings of the university are included in the European Heritage Label list as "embodiment of the ideas of a university in the Age of Enlightenment". The university is a member of the Coimbra Group and the Utrecht Network.

St. John's Church, Tartu (Estonian: Jaani kirik, German: St. Johanniskirche zu Dorpat) is a Brick Gothic Lutheran church, one of the landmarks of the city of Tartu, Estonia. It is dedicated to John the Baptist.
