Petersburg City Hall

Petersburg Courthouse Historic District is a national historic district located at Petersburg, Virginia. The district includes 75 contributing buildings located in the central business district of Petersburg. It is centered on the Petersburg Courthouse and includes notable examples of Greek Revival, Italianate, Federal style architecture. Notable buildings include the Paul-Lassiter House, Slaughter-Tatum House, Tabb Street Presbyterian Church Rectory, Mark E. Holt Jewelry Store, Augustus Wright Block, Virginia National Bank, Saal's Department Store, Remmie Arnold Pens Company building, A&P Super Market, Watson Court Apartments, and the Zimmer & Company Building. Located in the district and separately listed are the Petersburg City Hall, Tabb Street Presbyterian Church, and Saint Paul's Church.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

Tabb Street Presbyterian Church is a historic Presbyterian church located at Petersburg, Virginia. It was designed by architect Thomas Ustick Walter and built in 1843, in the Greek Revival style. It has stucco covered brick walls and features a massive Greek Doric order pedimented peristyle portico consisting of six fluted columns and full entablature. It has two full stories and a gallery. A three-story rear brick wing was added in 1944.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. It is located in the Petersburg Courthouse Historic District.

The Saint Paul's Church also known as Saint Paul's Protestant Episcopal Church, is a historic Episcopal church in Petersburg, Virginia, United States. It was designed by Niernsee & Neilson and built between 1855 and 1857, in the Gothic Revival style. The church is constructed of brick and features a three-story entrance tower. Also on the property are a contributing rectory (c. 1860) and parish house (1922). The church was attended by Robert E. Lee during the Siege of Petersburg in 1864–65.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. It is located in the Petersburg Courthouse Historic District.

Petersburg Courthouse is a historic courthouse building located at Petersburg, Virginia. It was designed by New York architect Calvin Pollard and built between 1838 and 1840. It is a two-story, Classical Revival style brick building. It rests on a granite foundation and measures 57 feet wide and 93 feet deep. It features a pedimented hexastyle front portico and a double-tiered bell and clock tower modeled after the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates in Athens. Major work was performed on the structure until 1877 when extensive repairs and interior alterations were carried out. A 30-foot addition was constructed in 1965. During the Siege of Petersburg, Union troops used the tower for a sighting mark and spared the structure from the bombardment.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. It is located in the Petersburg Courthouse Historic District.

The Exchange Building, also known as the Merchant's Exchange Building or The Exchange, is a historic commercial building in at 15-19 West Bank Street in Petersburg, Virginia. Built in 1841, this Greek Revival style building is one of the least-altered examples of a 19th-century market hall. It now houses the Siege Museum commemorating the Siege of Petersburg. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1971.

Farmers' Bank is the first bank museum of its kind found in Virginia. Farmers' Bank was incorporated in 1812 and the Petersburg, Virginia branch opened in 1817.

Appomattox Iron Works is a historic iron foundry complex located at Petersburg, Virginia. The complex consists of nine buildings: the machine shop, the mill store, the supply room, the pipe shop, the carpenter's shop and pattern shop, the core room, the foundry building, the blacksmith's shop, and the ruins of a stable. The machine shop at 28 Old Street is the oldest structure in the complex. It was built between 1810 and 1825, and is a three-story, four-bay, Federal style brick building. The Appomattox Iron Works operated at this location from 1899 until 1972.The complex was designated a Virginia State Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. It is located in the Petersburg Old Town Historic District.

Strawberry Hill is a historic home located in Petersburg, Virginia, built by tobacco warehouse owner, William Barksdale, in 1792. Strawberry Hill, designed with a tripartite Palladian form, is an early example of a Virginia dwelling built in the neoclassical style and includes several notable architectural features. It is now an inn and event venue. Strawberry Hill is listed in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register, and is located in the Folly Castle Historic District.

Washington Street Methodist Church is a historic Methodist church located at Petersburg, Virginia. It was built in 1842, and is a one-story with gallery, brick building in the Greek Revival style. It features a massive Greek Doric order pedimented tetrastyle portico added in 1890. Wings were added in 1922–1923, connected to the main building by columned hyphens.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

Nathaniel Friend House is a historic home located at Petersburg, Virginia. It was built in 1815–1816, and is a 3+1⁄2-story, six-bay, Federal style brick commercial / residential building. It has a rear ell that may incorporate the original kitchen and smokehouse. The house was built by the wealthy import-export merchant, Nathaniel Friend, Jr., who also served as the mayor of Petersburg in 1812–13.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. It is located in the Petersburg Old Town Historic District.

McIlwaine House, also known as the Jones-McIlwaine House, is a historic home located at Petersburg, Virginia. It was built in 1815, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, Federal style frame dwelling with a 1+1⁄2-story wing. It has a front porch with a modillioned cornice supported by Doric order columns. The house was moved eight blocks to its present location in 1972.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

City Market, also known as Farmers Market, is an historic public market located at 9 East Old Street in Petersburg, Virginia. It was built in 1878–1879 through a land given in trust by merchant Robert Balling. The City Market is an octagonal brick building. It measures 93 feet in diameter and is surrounded by a large metal canopy supported on elaborate iron brackets. The market’s high-rafted interior was originally where perishables were sold, whereas the outside stalls were for produce.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1969. It is located in the Petersburg Old Town Historic District.
