Nelson Tift Building

Albany Theatre is a historic theater in Albany, Georgia, United States. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 21, 2006. The Albany Theatre opened on September 12, 1927. The building, no longer in operation as a theatre, is located at 107 North Jackson Street. The Albany Theatre's first production featured H. L. Tallman on the Robert Morton Organ Company pipe organ (Opus 2304) along with Ralph Barnes and his Albany Theatre Orchestra accompanying The Magic Flame starring Ronald Colman and Vilma Bánky. Homer W. McCallon was the theater's director. The theatre adjusted to films with sound and remained in business until the 1970s. The theatre was purchased from the Farkas Estate by Oglethorpe Development Group, a minority enterprise which began underwriting a restoration of the theatre as a performing arts center. A 2011 plan was to convert the theater into an apartment building. The Theatre caught fire in the early morning hours of January 24, 2018. Investigators believe the fire was started when vagrants living in the building threw a lit cigarette onto the roof and caught trash on fire. One person died of soot and smoke inhalation. Three other people, believed to be living in the building, were rescued.

The Davis–Exchange Bank Building is a historic building in Albany, Georgia. It was built during 1919–21 with six stories, making it the tallest building in Albany upon its completion. It is an example of Beaux Arts architecture and was designed by J.E.R. Carpenter of Tennessee. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 23, 1984. It is located at 100-102 North Washington Street. The building was built for the Albany Exchange Bank as a replacement for its original building, which had burned down.

The Dougherty County School System is the school district in Dougherty County, Georgia, United States (county seat Albany, Georgia). A total of 16,844 students attend 14 elementary schools, four middle schools, three high schools, and one alternative school. The system is governed by a seven-member school board and an administrative staff. The school board consists of six members elected from geographical school districts and one at-large member. The administrative staff consists of Superintendent Kenneth Dyer.

The Dougherty County Public Library is a public library system serving Dougherty County, Georgia, United States. The Central Library is located in Albany. The library is a member of PINES, a program of the Georgia Public Library Service that covers 53 library systems in 143 counties of Georgia. Any resident in a PINES-supported library system has access to the system's collection of 10.6 million books. The library is also serviced by GALILEO, a program of the University System of Georgia which stands for "GeorgiA LIbrary LEarning Online". This program offers residents in supported libraries access to over 100 databases indexing thousands of periodicals and scholarly journals. It also boasts over 10,000 journal titles in full text.

New Albany Hotel is a historic hotel in Albany, Georgia added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It is now being used as an apartment complex known as The Flats @ 249. It was previously being used as a senior living facility known as Albany Heights. It is located at 249 Pine Avenue. Sam Farkas, a World War II hero, was the hotel's manager. Built in 1925, it a six-story Georgian Revival-style building. It is constructed of terra cotta blocks dressed with brick, upon a concrete and steel frame. Tapestry brick, in Flemish bond, sheathes the first five floors; Dutch Cross bond brick veneer sheathes the sixth floor. It was designed by Atlanta architect Raymond C. Snow. It was deemed significant as "a good example of the early-twentieth century Georgian Revival-style commercial buildings found in small Georgia cities and as one of several Georgian Revival-style buildings built in Albany during this period. In terms of commerce, the hotel is significant as one of two major hotels built in Albany during the 1920's to accommodate travel needs generated by the railroads. In terms of local history, the hotel was a center of Albany social life during the 1920's and 1930's."

The Rosenberg Brothers Department Store building is located in downtown Albany, Georgia, USA. The three-story brick structure was built in 1924 in an Italianate/Neo-Renaissance Classical Revival style by J.C. Hind and J. T. Murphy. Jacob Rosenberg was a Jewish merchant who leased a store at this prominent corner lot in 1896. The site was owned by the Tift family, who founded Albany. Rosenberg had a new department store building constructed on the site in 1923 in a Second Renaissance Revival architecture style. It continued in business until 1978 when a second Rosenberg's location opened within the, then new, Albany Mall in 1976. Gray Communications bought and renovated the building in 1985 for $850,000 (~$2.05 million in 2023) to house the Albany Herald. The building, and several nearby buildings, were sold to the city of Albany for $850,000. The Herald, which occupied the building for more than three decades, moved out in December 2019.

The Samuel Farkas House is a historic residence in Albany, Georgia. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 9, 1977. It is located at 328 West Broad Avenue. Samuel Farkas (October 25, 1921 - December 30, 2012) was a war hero in World War II and part of the family that operated the New Albany Hotel. He hired Ray Charles to give a performance on piano in the hotel's basement Continental Room.

The Albany Municipal Auditorium is a multi-purpose auditorium located in downtown Albany, Georgia, U.S. The 965-seat, classic style auditorium includes an orchestra level, as well as first and second balconies and it was listed as "Municipal Auditorium" on the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior in 1975. The auditorium is part of a sports, entertainment and convention complex that also includes the Albany Civic Center and the Veterans Park Amphitheater.

The U.S. Post Office and Courthouse in Albany, Georgia is a three-story building that was built during 1910–1912. Its architecture style is primarily Second Renaissance Revival architecture and is credited to U.S. Supervising Architect James Knox Taylor. It is perhaps one of Knox's last designed works; he retired as Supervising Architect in 1912. It served historically as a courthouse and as a post office. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

The Albany James H. Gray Sr. Civic Center (Albany Civic Center for short) is a multi-purpose arena located in downtown Albany, Georgia on the west bank of the Flint River. Opened in 1983, the arena is the only one of its kind in Southwest Georgia. Its maximum seating capacity of 10,711 is the largest of any indoor arena in the state of Georgia outside of metropolitan Atlanta and third-largest in the state behind State Farm Arena in downtown Atlanta and Gas South Arena in Gwinnett County.

The Albany Welcome Center, formerly known as the Bridge House, is a historic residential building in Albany, Georgia. It was designed by African American architect and engineer Horace King and built in 1858. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 19, 1974. It is located at 112 North Front Street. Born into slavery, King was granted special rights by the Alabama Legislature in 1858 and was a successful engineer and architect of bridges in the American South. Colonel Nelson Tift hired him in 1858 to build a covered bridge across the Flint River at Albany and King's design included an adjoining Bridge House that served as a gateway to the city. The home's cellars were used during the American Civil War for a meat packing operation to feed Confederate soldiers, and ground were used as for the slaughter of thousands of cows, hogs and sheep that were pickled in barrels. On the second floor is a room known as "Tift's Hall" that was made into a theater. It was described as the social center of Albany. Tift hired artists from New York to decorate the hall's walls and ceilings with ornate frescoes. The room was used to host actors, hold dances, stage plays, and was also used for Ku Klux Klan meetings. In 1887, Nelson Tift sold his bridge rights to Dougherty County, which later built a new bridge south of the Bridge House. The building was home for several decades to an auto parts store, and following the Flood of 1994, was purchased by Dougherty County as part of downtown Albany's redevelopment. The Bridge House was meticulously restored under the direction of David Maschke, a local architect, and reopened as the Albany Welcome Center in August 2008.

The St. Nicholas Hotel in Albany, Georgia, at 141 Flint Ave. or 300-310 Washington St., was built in 1908. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. It was designed by architects Bruce & Everett (a partnership of Alexander C. Bruce and Alexander F. N. Everett) in Early Commercial style. It has also been known as the Lee Hotel. It originally had a canopy at the front, but this was lost in a tornado on February 10, 1940, and not replaced. The hotel was severely damaged in the tornado, was rebuilt and reopened in 1941 as the Lee Hotel. It was the birthplace of bandleader Harry James in 1916.
