Sutton High Street

The Sound Lounge is a grassroots live music venue on Sutton High Street in Sutton, South London. The venue hosts live performances including blues, Americana, folk and roots music. It incorporates a plant-based, carbon-neutral café and a vinyl record shop, and, in addition to music, also hosts visual art exhibitions, theatre and dance.

Sutton is the principal town in the London Borough of Sutton in South London, England. It lies on the lower slopes of the North Downs, and is the administrative headquarters of the Outer London borough. It is 10 miles (16 km) south-south west of Charing Cross, and is one of the thirteen metropolitan centres in the London Plan. The population of the town was counted as 41,483 in the 2011 census, while the borough overall counted 204,525. An ancient parish originally in the county of Surrey, Sutton is recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as having two churches and about 30 houses. Its location on the London to Brighton turnpike from 1755 led to the opening of coaching inns, spurring its growth as a village. When it was connected to central London by rail in 1847, it began to grow into a town, and it expanded further in the 20th century. It became a municipal borough with Cheam in 1934, and became part of Greater London in 1965.Sutton has the largest library in the borough, several works of public art and four conservation areas. It is home to several large international companies and the sixth most important shopping area in London, centred on Sutton High Street. Sutton railway station is the borough's largest, with frequent services to central London and other destinations, including Horsham. It is home to the Royal Marsden Hospital and the Institute of Cancer Research, where there are plans to create the world's second biggest cancer research campus. Crime levels are among the lowest in London. Sutton borough is among the highest performing education authorities in the country. In 2011 it was the top performing borough for GCSE results in England.

St Nicholas Church, Sutton, is a Grade II* listed parish church in the centre of Sutton, London. It was built between 1862 and 1864 in the Gothic style with dressed flint and stone dressings. It was designed by the architect Edwin Nash.

The Millennium Dial Armillary is one of six pieces of public art located in the town centre of Sutton in Greater London, England. The others include the Sutton heritage mosaic, the Sutton twin towns mural and the Messenger statue. The armillary was dedicated to the town in 2000 by the Rotary Club, and is in the form of a historical timepiece. It serves three purposes: firstly, simply to tell the time; secondly, to commemorate time through various inscriptions including the Rotary motto "Service Above Self" and distances to nearby areas such as Kingston upon Thames; and thirdly, to commemorate the work which the Rotary Club has done.

The Sutton Heritage Mosaic is a large mural in the form of a mosaic situated in Sutton High Street in the town of Sutton in Greater London, England. One of the largest examples of wall art in Britain, it was commissioned by the London Borough of Sutton to celebrate the borough's heritage.

Sutton Civic Offices is a municipal facility in St Nicholas Way, Sutton, London. It is the headquarters of Sutton London Borough Council.

Trinity Church, Sutton is a Grade II listed church in the centre of Sutton, London. It was built in 1907 in the Gothic style with Kentish ragstone with Bath stone dressings. It was designed by architects Gordon and Gunton.

Sutton Grammar School (formerly Sutton Grammar School for Boys) is a selective state grammar school for boys aged 11–18 with a coeducational sixth form. Located in South London, the school's main site is in Sutton and its playing fields are in neighbouring Cheam.

Manor Park is a public park in the town of Sutton in Greater London. It was created in 1914 on a site in the town centre, opposite the police station. Its grounds include the Sutton War Memorial, which was added in 1921. It is bounded by Throwley Way to the west; Carshalton Road to the south; Manor Park Road to the east, and Greyhound Road to the north. Sutton High Street runs parallel to Throwley Way, fifty yards to the west.In 2010 its new café of straw-bale construction was London's first environmentally friendly building to use this building method.

The Barclays Bank building is a four-storey locally listed building overlooking the historic crossroads in the town centre of Sutton in the south London Borough of Sutton. It was built in 1894, originally as the London and Provincial Bank.

The Cock sign is situated on the crossroads of Sutton High Street and Carshalton Road in the London Borough of Sutton. Built in 1907, it was originally a pub sign for The Cock hotel and pub, before being converted into a road sign and lamp post. Since 2018, The Cock sign has been a Grade II listed structure.

Benhill is a council housing estate in Sutton, London, originally built in the 1960s upon woodland. It is east of Sutton High Street. The estate was later renovated and regenerated. The wider surrounding area whose initial development of large villas dates from Victorian times was intended for the upper middle class, whereas nearby Newtown - built around the same time as Benhill - was intended for the lower class. Construction began in 1852. However, development of it was slow and by 1913 there were still many empty building plots.One of its residents, Gerard 'Jed' Edge, had a picture of him selected as part of the 2009 BP Portrait Award exhibition and supplied snakes for the Steven Spielberg film Raiders of the Lost Ark. He died on 11 April 2013 after his flat in Benhill Wood Road caught fire.
