Manchester station is a busway station located in Los Angeles, California. It is situated between the Slauson and Harbor Freeway stations on the J Line, a bus rapid transit route which runs between El Monte, Downtown Los Angeles and San Pedro as part of the Los Angeles Metro Busway system. The station consists of two side platforms in the center of Interstate 110 above Manchester Avenue. The station serves the Vermont Knolls, Vermont Vista, Florence, and Broadway-Manchester neighborhoods of Los Angeles. Manchester station was built between 1989 and 1996 as part of the Harbor Transitway and opened to passengers on August 1, 1996. J Line buses serve the station twenty-four hours a day; the headway between buses is about four minutes during peak periods, with less frequent service at other times. Manchester station is also served by several Los Angeles Metro Bus and Torrance Transit bus services, most of which only run during weekday peak periods.

The Broadway & 87th Street shopping center designed by Wisstein Bros. and Surval, was one of the earliest shopping centers in Los Angeles, built in stages between 1936 and 1939 at 8701–8765 South Broadway between 87th and 88th streets, in what is now termed the Broadway-Manchester neighborhood. Researcher and author Richard Longstreth calls it the first true neighborhood shopping center.

Morningside Hospital was a 125-bed hospital located at 8711 South Harvard Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. The facility opened in early 1958. An August 1980 Los Angeles Times article indicated that the closing date of Morningside would be September 15, 1980, citing financial losses and competition from larger hospitals. Its emergency room closed two weeks before the hospital itself.Morningside was one of the filming locations for Halloween II (1981), Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982), 10 to Midnight (1983) and V: The Final Battle (1984). After its closure the hospital was abandoned and then demolished in 2003. That same year construction of the Harvard Yard Senior Apartments began on the former hospital site, with funding provided by the Los Angeles Housing Department.

Reginald Oliver Denny (born 1953) is a former construction truck driver who was pulled from his truck and severely beaten during the 1992 Los Angeles riots. His attackers, a group of black men who came to be known as the "L.A. Four", targeted Denny because he was white. The attack was captured on video by a news helicopter and broadcast live on U.S. national television. Four other black L.A. residents who had witnessed the attack on live television came to Denny's aid, placing him back in his truck and driving him to the hospital. Denny suffered a fractured skull and impairment of his speech and his ability to walk, for which he underwent years of rehabilitative therapy. After unsuccessfully suing the City of Los Angeles, Denny moved to Arizona, where he worked as an independent boat mechanic and has mostly avoided media contact.

Art's Famous Chili Dogs is a hot dog stand located in Los Angeles, California. It was founded in 1939 by Art Elkind a frankfurter entrepreneur, who was its owner until 1990. It is well known for its chili dogs, which have been praised by a variety of Los Angeleno media outlets, and proclaimed by aficionados as the finest in the city.

Broadway Community Hospital was a 56-bed hospital located at 9500 South Broadway, in the Broadway-Manchester district of Los Angeles, California.The hospital was abruptly closed by its staff (and its 17 patients transferred elsewhere quietly) on Friday March 19, 1982. The next day, state and county health authorities arrived to shut the hospital down, only to find that it had already been locked down and emptied. The hospital was served with a 61-page complaint for what was alleged "a threat to the public health" by health officials, amid specific cases of what was deemed unacceptable and improper patient care.
