Shell Beach, La Jolla

Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Park, often referred to as Scripps Park, is an urban park located in La Jolla within the city of San Diego, California. The 5.6 acres (2.3 ha) park, part of the unceded ancient homeland and traditional territory of the Kumeyaay Nation, is sited on a sandstone bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It is an open-space, landscaped environment heavily used by residents and visitors from all over the world. The park has approximately 1,500 ft (460 m) of shoreline and includes La Jolla Cove Beach, Point La Jolla, Boomer Beach, and Shell Beach. The La Jolla Adult Recreation Center, three historic belvederes, and a 2022 comfort station are the only buildings in the park. Influenced by the American picturesque park movement, Scripps Memorial Park has a 3.8-acre lawn and heritage plantings that include groves of gnarly trunked pink melaleuca (Melaleuca nesophila), an Australian native plant; exotic dragon trees (Dracaena draco) from the Canary Islands; several Monterey cypress (Hesperocyparis macrocarpa); and a row of Mexican fan palms (Washingtonia robusta). According to the Automobile Association of America (AAA), Scripps Memorial Park is the most photographed spot in San Diego. The La Jolla Park Coastal Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 9, 2024, includes Ellen Browning Scripps Memorial Park as a contributing resource.

Children's Pool Beach is a small sandy beach area located at 850 Coast Boulevard, at the end of Jenner Street, in San Diego, California. The Children's Pool earned its name after the construction of a concrete breakwater in 1931. The structure was gifted to the community of La Jolla by the local philanthropist Ellen Browning Scripps, who paid for the construction of a breakwater project in order to create a place where children could play and swim that would be protected from waves coming onshore and the beaches adjacent to this area. The gift was confirmed by an act of the Legislature, signed by California Governor James Rolph, Jr. in 1931.The Children's Pool has become the subject of a controversial debate related to a growing colony of harbor seals which has inhabited the beach since the mid-1990s.

La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla, California, known also as "The Pink Lady of La Jolla", is a hotel built in the 1920s in a Spanish colonial revival style that is known for views of La Jolla Cove, and its historic associations with early 20th century Hollywood glamor. Founded as Los Apartmentos de Sevilla, it changed to its current name in 1928, two years after it opened. It was an original member of the Historic Hotels of America, and has been expanded from the original, and remodeled and modernized throughout its history; as of January 2022, it continued in operation as a full service lodging and hospitality venue with historic status.

The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library is a non-profit membership library located in La Jolla, a community of San Diego, California. It was incorporated as the Library Association of La Jolla in 1899. It has a rich history, closely entwined with the history of the La Jolla community. The history of the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library began in 1884, when a group of pioneer La Jolla women established the La Jolla Reading Club. By 1898, the "Reading Room" was constructed on the corner of Girard Avenue and Wall Street. Today the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library is a thriving cultural institution and one of only 16 membership libraries remaining in the U.S. The library welcomes 100,000 visitors a year and presents 150 programs that include concerts, exhibitions, lectures, and galas. It houses a unique collection of art and music books, CDs, DVDs, and special collections. It is recognized especially for its collection of artists’ books. The Athenaeum is housed in three historic buildings, which were joined and remodeled in 2006 following an ambitious capital campaign. It is headed by Joan & Irwin Jacobs Executive Director Erika Torri. The library is open to the public five days a week: Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Wednesday 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The Village of La Jolla, often simply referred to as the Village, is the center—downtown area of La Jolla, a beach resort community within San Diego, on the South Coast of California. The Village includes most of La Jolla's shops and restaurants, but is dominated by residences.

The Red Roost and The Red Rest, built in 1894, are historic beach cottages overlooking La Jolla Cove in La Jolla, San Diego, California. At one time, they were outstanding examples of the first-generation California bungalow. Their placement on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 has not prevented serious deterioration due to neglect. The La Jolla Park Coastal Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places on May 9, 2024, includes The Red Roost and the Red Rest as contributing resources.

John Cole's Book Shop (originally John Cole's Book and Craft Shop) was a bookstore in La Jolla, San Diego, California. It was founded in 1946 by John (d. 1959) and Barbara Cole (d. 2004) on Ivanhoe Avenue, and moved in 1966 to the Wisteria Cottage at 780 Prospect Street. The cottage had housed Ellen Browning Scripps' half-sister Virginia, and La Jolla Country Day School, prior to becoming the location of John Cole's Book Shop. Susan and Charles Cole, the daughter and son of John and Barbara Cole worked in the book shop as did Susan's daughter Trilce and Charles' son Zachary. Zachary sold harmonicas in the book store. Parties were held for numerous authors over the years. The La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art lent sculptures to John Cole's Book Shop which were displayed on the grounds. John Cole's Book Shop specialized in books about Mexico, and specifically the Baja Peninsula as well as Mexican art. Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, was a close friend of both John and Barbara Cole as early as the 1940s, lived in La Jolla and regularly signed books for the shop. The shop closed in 2005, and the cottage is to be turned into a museum by the La Jolla Historical Society.

The La Jolla Historical Society is a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the La Jolla community of San Diego, California. According to its mission statement, it "celebrates the history and culture of this region along the water's edge through interdisciplinary programs, exhibitions, and research that challenge expectations. It balances contemporary and historic perspectives to create understanding and connection."

La Jolla Cove is a small cove with a beach that is surrounded by cliffs in La Jolla, San Diego, California. Point La Jolla forms the south side of the cove. The area is protected as part of a marine reserve and is popular with snorkelers, swimmers and scuba divers. The swells that often roll in from the open ocean can be large and strong. The water temperature is often a little colder than the average San Diego beach. While the beach has a small dry sand area at high tide, during very low tides, tide pools are revealed at the cove. California sea lions can be found in the waters of the Cove and hauling out, temporarily leaving the water to rest on its beaches, cliffs, and bluffs. Similar to the events of the Pacific harbor seals at Children's Pool Beach, there is controversy concerning the interactions of people with the sea lions.

The La Jolla Woman's Club is a historic building in La Jolla, a neighborhood of San Diego, California. Designed and built by Irving Gill with assistance from his nephew Louis John Gill in 1914-1915, it is an important example of Gill's modern architectural style, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (or MCASD), in San Diego, California, US, is an art museum focused on the collection, preservation, exhibition, and interpretation of works of art from 1950 to the present.

The Tyrolean Terrace Colony (1911–1912) was an Arts & Crafts-style hotel bungalow court in La Jolla, San Diego, California, adjacent to the former Green Dragon Colony. It catered to early automobile traffic along Coast Blvd., a scenic drive that led to La Jolla Park and other sites along the shore. The property, but not the buildings, was listed as a San Diego Historical Landmark in 1975 (HRBS 102). The Village Stairway to Goldfish Point and Caves, leading from Prospect St. to Coast Blvd., is located on the former site of the Colony.
