Oxon Hill, Maryland

Oxon Hill High School (OHHS) is a public senior high school, located in Oxon Hill, an unincorporated area in Prince George's County, Maryland, and a suburb of Washington, D.C. in the United States. The school, which serves grades 9 through 12, is a part of the Prince George's County Public Schools system. Oxon Hill is one of three schools in Prince George's county to offer the Science & Technology Program (see below), a magnet program with a highly selective admissions process. This program is a "school within a school" with approximately 125 students in each entering class. Overall, the school has approximately 1,500 students spread across the four grade levels. In recent years, the school has suffered persistent overcrowding due to its popular academic programs, extracurricular activities, and location in the burgeoning southern tier of the county. The school mascot is a Clipper Ship, as chosen through a student contest. The school motto is Navis Semper Naviget (May The Ship Sail Forever). It serves: portions of the Oxon Hill and Fort Washington census-designated places, as well as all of National Harbor CDP.

Forest Heights is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States, and is part of the larger postal designation of Oxon Hill. The town straddles both sides of dual-lane Maryland Route 210 and includes two elementary schools. Per the 2020 census, the population was 2,658.

Oxon Hill-Glassmanor was a census-designated place (CDP) in Prince George's County, Maryland, for the 1990 and 2000 censuses. The combination is arbitrary, and in the mind of most local people there are two separate communities: Oxon Hill and Glassmanor. As of the 2010 census, Oxon Hill, National Harbor and Glassmanor were delineated as separate CDPs.

The Butler House was a historic home of importance to local African American history and located at Oxon Hill, Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. Henry Alexander Butler, a free African American man from Charles County, moved with his family to the property in 1853, and the property has been continuously associated with the Butler family. Henry Butler became a Reconstruction era community leader, serving as trustee of the nearby Freedmen's Bureau school. The Butler House was a 2+1⁄2-story, one room deep wood-frame and log residence covered in cast stone. It sat in a secluded, forested area, adjacent to the Oxon Hill Children's Farm. As of December 2010, the house is in a severely dilapidated condition. In 2020 the house collapsed and the property was sold in 2019. The Butler House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Glassmanor is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 18,430. In the 1990 and 2000 censuses, the United States Census Bureau had placed Glassmanor and the adjacent community of Oxon Hill in the "Oxon Hill-Glassmanor" census-designated place for statistical purposes. Glassmanor was last delineated separately in 1980, when the CDP recorded a population of 7,751.The original Glassmanor apartments were built circa 1950 by the Glassman company, just outside the border of southeast Washington. In the mid-1950s, the Eastover shopping center was built across the highway, followed by other adjoining apartment projects in the 1960s. U.S. Senator George McGovern, who was the Democratic Party's presidential candidate in 1972, lived briefly in Glassmanor while a freshman congressman. The area has undergone tremendous demographic and social changes since that time.

Oxon Hill Manor is a neo-Georgian house of 49 rooms, located at Forest Heights, Prince George's County, Maryland. It was designed in 1928 for Sumner Welles (1892-1961) by the Washington architect, Jules Henri de Sibour (1872-1938). It was built in 1929, and consists of a two-story main block of Flemish bond brick and a northern wing. Also on the property are two outbuildings contemporary with the house; a five-car garage and attached manager's quarters and greenhouse, and a stable. There are also formal gardens on the grounds.

MGM National Harbor is a casino hotel in National Harbor, Maryland, just outside of Washington, D.C. It opened on December 8, 2016, constructed at a cost of $1.4 billion. It is owned by Vici Properties and operated by MGM Resorts International.

Oxon Run is a tributary stream of Oxon Creek and the Potomac River in Prince George's County, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. In early maps, the stream is usually called "Oxen Run" and in 1892 the U.S. Geological Survey still labelled the stream as "Oxen Run" on its maps. Late in that year they changed the spelling they used, and others have followed suit, though it's unclear what led to the spelling change. Government officials and mapmakers often don't make a distinction between Oxon Creek and Oxon Run, instead treating Oxon Creek as a continuation of Oxon Run, but USGS still does. USGS first started labeling it as Oxon Creek in 1892.

Oxon Cove Park and Oxon Cove Farm is a national historic district that includes a living farm museum operated by the National Park Service, and located at Oxon Hill, Prince George's County, Maryland. It is part of National Capital Parks-East. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.The park provides an excellent resource for environmental studies, wildlife observing, fishing, and other recreational activities made possible by easy access to the Potomac River. Fourteen buildings and two structures are located in the historic district and associated with the property's sequential development as a plantation, an institutional agricultural complex, and a farm museum.

Potomac High School is a public high school located in the Glassmanor census-designated place in unincorporated Prince George's County, Maryland, United States, with an Oxon Hill postal address. It is a part of Prince George's County Public Schools. The principal is Nathaniel R. Laney. The approximate enrollment as of August 2010 stands at 1,216 students in grades nine through twelve. The school hours are from 7:45am to 2:25pm. Potomac operates on an alternating A/B-Day block schedule. There is a mandatory uniform policy at this school. Potomac features a school-wide America's Choice School Design signature program as well as an expansive "smaller learning communities" program, that essentially breaks the school down into smaller schools or "career academies". The school serves: all of Glassmanor CDP, the Town of Forest Heights, most of Hillcrest Heights CDP, a portion of Marlow Heights CDP, and a portion of Silver Hill CDP.
