Westerhope is an area in the west of Newcastle upon Tyne, England (from which it takes its name). It was founded to provide housing for working families with sufficient land to grow vegetables. Westerhope expanded substantially in Victorian times with the discovery of workable coal reserves. It was also formerly a ward of the city council until 2018, which had a population of 9,196 at the 2011 Census. The coal reserves have now been largely exhausted and the two pits - Coronation & North Walbottle - have long since closed. After the extraction of 21.5 million tons of coal, the North Walbottle pit was closed in 1968 as further coal extraction would have risked undermining the runway of Newcastle airport, which lies about 5 miles to the North.With the westward expansion of Newcastle upon Tyne, Westerhope was incorporated into the city as part of the 1974 local government reorganisation. This coincided with large owner-occupied housing estates - Chapel House, Chapel Park, St John's - being developed on the west of Westerhope. At one time these were claimed to be the largest such developments in Europe, although the source of such claims is unclear. Additionally a substantial social housing development, Newbiggin Hall Estate was built at around the same time to the North of the village. Due to road developments, Westerhope lies in a favourable transport location, in the crook of the A1/A69 junction. This gives good communications to the West, North & South. In contrast, because of the hilly nature of the land, Westerhope has been excluded from the Tyne and Wear Metro system and public transport links to the city centre rely on buses. Additionally, a dual carriageway links the north side of the village to the airport. Westerhope is now largely a dormitory to Newcastle city, although some light industry exists around the Cobblers Corner area, which is the historic core of the village.

Newcastle upon Tyne North is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2010 by Catherine McKinnell of the Labour Party.Further to the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, from the next general election, due by January 2025, the constituency will undergo wholesale boundary changes, with only 41.3% of the current seat being included in the redrawn one.

West Denton is an area in the western part of the city of Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, England.

Milecastle 8 (West Denton) was a milecastle of the Roman Hadrian's Wall. Its remains are located in West Denton, Newcastle upon Tyne. The milecastle has two associated turret structures that are known as turret 8A and turret 8B. The turrets and milecastle were excavated in the 1920s, yielding some pottery and stone carvings, and have since been overlain by modern roads. The exact location of the structures is disputed, with the road hiding any surface traces. The Milecastle forms part of the Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site.

Denton Burn is an area located in Central Newcastle, approximately 4 miles (6 km) to the west of the city centre of Newcastle upon Tyne in England, United Kingdom. It is officially designated a suburb of the city, where it is linked to Carlisle by the A69 and A1 roads. The West Road also runs to the north of Denton Burn allowing access to the city centre and also to the junction which leads to the A69 road and A1 road.

Denton is an electoral ward of Newcastle upon Tyne in North East England. The ward encompasses the Chapel House and West Denton housing areas. The population the ward was 10,500 at the 2011 Census, 4.2% of the total population of Newcastle upon Tyne. Car ownership in the area is 56.6%, slightly higher than the city average of 54.7%.

East Denton is an area in the City of Newcastle upon Tyne in the English county of Tyne and Wear. East Denton Hall, dating from 1622, was in the 18th century the seat of the prominent Montagu family. Elizabeth Montagu, the cultural critic and founder of the Blue Stockings Society, spent some time there. To the east of the Hall a waggonway led from the Caroline Pit to the coal staithes by the river Tyne in Scotswood. Bishop's House, East Denton Hall, to give it its formal name, is now the official residence of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle.

Newcastle Blue Star F.C. is a football club based in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It was established in 1930 and joined the Wearside League in 1973. In 1978, it won the FA Vase. Having won promotion to the Northern Premier League Premier Division at the end of the 2008–09 season via the play-offs, off field troubles led to the club winding up having never taken its place in the league. In 2018 the club was reborn playing games at Scotswood in the West End of the city. They currently play in the Northern League Division Two, the tenth tier of the English football league system.

Excelsior Academy is a mixed all-through school and sixth form. It was opened in September 2008 as a replacement for the Westgate Community College and is situated in the west end of Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom.The academy was originally for secondary school pupils aged 11 to 18 including a sixth form. It had four sections to the school, which were Jefferson, Milburn, Hadrian and Armstrong. In mid-2013, Armstrong and Jefferson merged into one large school named Collingwood. In 2012 it was announced that the school would create a primary school called Rainbird, and have an age range of 3 to 19.The three main secondary schools are based on their own specialist subjects individually: The school is currently part of the Laidlaw Schools Trust and is sponsored by Lord Laidlaw.The academy has also been listed in the 200 most improved schools nationally identified by the Department for Education.

Sugley is an area of Newcastle upon Tyne adjacent to Lemington in North East England: its parish church is Holy Saviour, Sugley.

Lemington railway station served the district of Lemington, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England from 1875 to 1964 on the Tyne Valley Line.

Kitty's Drift is an early 3-mile (4.8 km) railway tunnel in the west of the English city of Newcastle upon Tyne. It was built around 1770 to transport coal underground from the East Kenton Colliery, at Kenton, to staithes on the Tyne at Scotswood. As built it was a single track waggonway with wooden rails and passing places for horsedrawn waggons. The wagonway through the tunnel was abandoned in the first decade of the 19th century, with the colliery's output being transferred to the Kenton and Coxlodge Waggonway, which ran on the surface to the Tyne at Wallsend. However the tunnel continued in use as drainage for the colliery. In the 1930s the tunnel was again used to carry coal, in this case by the Montague Colliery from their Caroline Pit to the screens at their View Pit. In this case the wagons were cable-hauled, initially by steam power and latterly by electric power. The tunnel closed with the Montague Colliery in 1959, and its exact route is no longer known.
