George Chrisman House

Mannheim, also known as Koffman House, Kauffman House, and Coffman House, is a historic home located near Linville, Rockingham County, Virginia. It was constructed circa 1788 on a 360 acre plantation by David Coffman, a descendant of one of the first German settlers in the Shenandoah Valley. David Coffman named his masterpiece after the German city from which the Coffmans originated. Mannheim is a two-story, three-bay, stone Colonial style dwelling. It has a steep side gable roof with overhanging eaves and a central chimney. A two-story, Greek Revival style wood-frame ell with double porches was added to the rear of the dwelling about 1855. A front porch also added in the 19th century has since been removed. Also on the property are the contributing two brick slave quarters, a log smokehouse, an office, a chicken shed, and the ruins of a stone spring house. The house is representative of vernacular German architecture of the mid-to-late 18th century, as constructed in America.Mannheim was occupied by successive generations of the Coffman family until 1880. In the mid-1990s Mannheim was purchased by a James Madison University professor who restored it to its 18th-century appearance. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Edom is an unincorporated community located in Rockingham County, in the U.S. state of Virginia. It is located along State Route 42 at the crossroads with State Route 721, north of Harrisonburg and southeast of Singers Glen. Linville Creek flows through the village. Near Edom on January 14, 1794, Dr. Jesse Bennett performed the first Caesarian section and oophorectomy in the United States, operating on his wife to give birth to their daughter. A historical marker was erected by the state of Virginia in 1983 commemorating the event.Baxter House, John K. Beery Farm, and Edom Store and Post Office are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Breneman-Turner Mill is a historic grist mill located near Harrisonburg, Rockingham County, Virginia. It was built about 1800, and is a 2 1/2-story, Federal style brick building. The building retains its water wheel, measuring 16 feet in diameter and 5 feet wide, and three sets of burr stones. The mill survived General Philip Sheridan’s burning of the Shenandoah Valley in 1864, and remained in operation until 1988.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

Edom Store and Post Office, also known as John Chrisman Store and Myers and Company, is a historic store and post office located at Edom, Rockingham County, Virginia. It was built about 1835, and is a two-story, brick commercial building. It features a metal-sheathed gable roof, a five-bay façade with center entries on the first and second stories, and a one-story entry porch and a storefront added in the late-19th century. It has a two-story rear ell. The interior is transitional Federal-Greek Revival. Also on the property is a contributing frame barn dated to about 1900. The Edom Post Office operated out of the store until the late 1930s and the store closed about 1940.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

Baxter House is a historic home located near Edom, Rockingham County, Virginia. The house dates to about 1775, and is a single pile, double-pen dwelling consisting of two abutted two-bay, two-story log structures set on limestone foundation. It was built by Scottish settler George Baxter, whose son George A. Baxter served as president of Washington and Lee University from 1799 to 1829.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

John K. Beery Farm is a historic home and farm complex located near Edom, Virginia, United States. The main house dates to 1838, and consists of a two-story, five-bay, central-hall plan, main section with a one-story, three-bay east wing. The main section measures 50 feet wide and 18 feet deep and features a long one-story, late-19th century porch. Also on the property are a number of contributing outbuildings including a stone bank barn, loom house, spring house, wash house / kitchen, granary, sheds, and an outhouse. The meeting room in the east wing of the house served a large congregation of Mennonites for a number of years. John K. Berry was a descendant of Swiss settlers in Pennsylvania.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Linville is a Census-designated place located in Rockingham County, in the U.S. state of Virginia. It is located 6 miles north of Harrisonburg, Virginia. It is for the first time listed as CDP for the United States Census 2020. It contains the Linville United Church of Christ.

Lincoln Homestead and Cemetery, also known as the Jacob Lincoln House, is a historic home and cemetery located near Broadway, Rockingham County, Virginia. It was built in two sections. The main section was built about 1800, and is a two-story, five-bay, brick structure with a side-gable roof. It features an elaborate wooden cornice with Wall-of-Troy molding, corbels and dentils, and a Federal style doorway. The two-story brick rear ell was built in 1849 and joined to the main house in the early-1900s. Located on the property is the Lincoln family cemetery in which are buried five generations of the family, as well as Queenie, a woman who was enslaved by the Lincoln family, and "Virginia John" Lincoln, great-grandfather of Abraham Lincoln.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.In November 2019, the house was purchased by Benjamin and Sarah Bixler after being vacant for 20 years. The new owners completed a combination of restoration and renovations on the house in 2021.

Singers Glen is an Census-designated place (CDP) located in Rockingham County, Virginia, and situated between Little North Mountain and Interstate 81. Singers Glen is a historic settlement that is registered by both the Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission and the United States Department of the Interior. The community comprises one road (Singers Glen Road), the Singers Glen Post Office, a recycling center, the Singers Glen School, the Singers Glen Volunteer Fire Company, Singers Glen volunteer rescue squad, one store, and a Methodist and Baptist Church. It is listed as a CDP for the United States Census 2020.

Joseph Funk House is a historic home located at Singers Glen, Rockingham County, Virginia. It was built about 1810, and is a 1+1⁄2-story, log dwelling with a gable roof and an undercut front gallery. The house is sheathed with weatherboarding. Its builder Joseph Funk (1777-1862), was a leader in the Mennonite faith and an influential musical theorist who was the grandson of a German Palatine settler of Bernese Swiss descent. The second-floor room where the printing press, formerly located in a separate building, was placed was originally a loom room. It was converted to a school room in 1837. The building served as Funk's publishing house from 1847 until 1878.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

Singers Glen Historic District is a national historic district located at Singers Glen, Rockingham County, Virginia. The district encompasses 65 contributing buildings and 2 contributing sites in the village of Singers Glen. The district retains much of its late 19th-century air and most of its original buildings. Notable buildings include the Glen Farm (John S. Funk House, c. 1889), The Solomon Funk Farm (c. 1857), Edwin E. Funk House (Gray House, 1892), Swank Store and Post Office (c. 1890), T. Funk and Sons Store (1895), The Carriage Works (1826), Singers Glen Baptist Church (1888), United and Methodist Church (1895, 1905). Located in the district is the separately listed Joseph Funk House.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
