The Shenandoah Valley () is a geographic valley and cultural region of western Virginia and the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia in the United States. The valley is bounded to the east by the Blue Ridge Mountains, to the west by the eastern front of the Ridge-and-Valley Appalachians (excluding Massanutten Mountain), to the north by the Potomac River and to the south by the James River. The cultural region covers a larger area that includes all of the valley plus the Virginia highlands to the west, and the Roanoke Valley to the south. It is physiographically located within the Ridge and Valley province and is a portion of the Great Appalachian Valley.

The Lucy F. Simms School is a school building at 620 Simms Avenue in Harrisonburg, Virginia. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 11, 2004.Lucy F. Simms (born 1855, died July 10, 1934) was a former slave who went on to become an influential teacher in Harrisonburg.The school was located in north-eastern Harrisonburg, on the site of a previous school, the Effinger Street school. It was co-educational but was only available to African American children. The site had housed a school from around 1880 on what had previously been the Hilltop estate of the Gray family. The Lucy F. Simms school was built in 1938 and closed from 1966 when American schools finally became integrated and so open to all children.After the school's closure, the building remained empty until it was re-opened in 2005 as the Lucy F. Simms Continuing Education Center.

Newtown Cemetery is a historic cemetery in Harrisonburg, Virginia. It is located in the northern part of the city, bounded on the north by Kelley Street and the west by Sterling Street. It is bisected by an extension of Effinger Street, which now serves as part of the cemetery's circulation roads. The roughly 4-acre (1.6 ha) parcel has been the primary burial ground for the city's African-American dead since its founding in 1869. It is estimated to hold 900 graves, including many of emancipated slaves. Notable burials include educator Lucy F. Simms and veterans of the US Colored Troops.The cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.

Little Grill Collective is a restaurant in Harrisonburg, Virginia is started in June 2003 in a building that has been operating as a restaurant since the 1930s. It was a worker owned collective from 2003 to 2022. After ceasing operations in September 2022, previous owners Ron and Melaine Copeland reopened the diner as "The Little Grill" on March 21, 2023.

Our Community Place is a community center created by a former Salvation Army building located in Harrisonburg, Virginia, United States. One of the three 2011 Nobel Peace Laureates, Leymah Gbowee of Liberia, earned a master's degree in conflict transformation from CJP in 2007.

Guns into Plowshares is a sculpture by Mennonite artists Esther Augsburger and Michael Augsburger. It depicts the blade of a giant plow, fashioned out of steel and 3,000 disabled handguns. It stands sixteen feet tall and weighs four tons. The work alludes to a passage from the Book of Isaiah in which the ancient Israelite prophet envisions a future when people "shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more" (Isaiah 2:4; cf. Micah 4:3). The image of transforming swords to plowshares has been widely adopted by social and political groups working for peace. The sculpture was conceived in 1994, when the artists heard of a gun buyback program coordinated by the Washington, D.C., police. After three years of work, Guns into Plowshares was completed in 1997 and erected in Judiciary Square. Since October 2017, it has stood on the campus of Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

The Ida Mae Francis Tourist Home is a historic house in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Built around 1908, it was operated by Ida Mae Francis as a boarding and tourist home for African-American travelers. It was listed in several editions of The Negro Motorist Green Book in the 1950s and early 1960s.

John K. Beery Farm is a historic home and farm complex located near Edom, Virginia, United States. The main house dates to 1838, and consists of a two-story, five-bay, central-hall plan, main section with a one-story, three-bay east wing. The main section measures 50 feet wide and 18 feet deep and features a long one-story, late-19th century porch. Also on the property are a number of contributing outbuildings including a stone bank barn, loom house, spring house, wash house / kitchen, granary, sheds, and an outhouse. The meeting room in the east wing of the house served a large congregation of Mennonites for a number of years. John K. Berry was a descendant of Swiss settlers in Pennsylvania.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The Golden Pony was a restaurant and live music venue located in Harrisonburg, Virginia, US. The Golden Pony was created in 2015 by Paul Somers and is frequented by students at James Madison University and Harrisonburg residents. Acts that have played at The Golden Pony include Cursive, White Reaper, The Callous Daoboys, and Black Tusk. The stage is 16 feet by 16 feet and that the venue has a capacity of 175 people.
