Jizera Mountains

The Desná Dam (locally known as the Burst Dam) was a dam constructed on the Bílá Desná river in the Jizera Mountains, which are in the Liberec Region of the Czech Republic. It is known for bursting on September 18, 1916, ten months after it was built, which caused the river to flood the nearby town of Desná, killing 67 people and causing hundreds of others to lose their homes.The dam was constructed over a five-year period and was given final approval on November 18, 1915. On September 18 the next year, at around 3:30pm, log workers noticed the first evidence of water leaking through the dam. The dam keeper ordered the reservoir to be drained, but the flow rate continued to increase. At 4:00pm, inhabitants of Desná were warned, and at 4:15pm, the dam burst with 250,000 cubic meters of water inside, which swept through the town. The number of fatalities was originally considered to be 62, though in 2016, researcher Dana Nývltová found that court documents from the time showed 65 victims, and that 2 additional victims died later in hospital.

The Černý potok is a tributary on the left side of the river Smědá in Liberec District in Liberec Region, Czech Republic. The stream flows for 5.1 km, with a basin area measuring 6.7 km ².The stream rises on the northern slopes of Černé Mountain (1085 m) in the Jizera Mountains at an altitude of 1035 m. The average flow at the mouth is 0.16 m³ / s. It flows mainly north. During its relatively short flow creates innumerable waterfalls and cascades. The outflow rushes through a stream northwards through, where there is the forest, dividing into several branches to the Strašice.

The Josefův Důl dam (Czech: vodní nádrž Josefův Důl) is a dam in the municipality of Josefův Důl in the Liberec Region of the Czech Republic. It dams the water of Kamenice river. It was built between 1976 and 1982 and is the largest dam in the Jizera Mountains. It has a height of 43 m and a capacity of 23 million cubic meters. It is used for drinking water so recreational activities are not permitted upon it.

Hejnice (Czech pronunciation: [ˈɦɛjɲɪtsɛ]; German: Haindorf) is a town in Liberec District in the Liberec Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 2,800 inhabitants.

Albrechtice v Jizerských horách (German: Albrechtsdorf) is a municipality and village in Jablonec nad Nisou District in the Liberec Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 400 inhabitants.

Horní Maxov (German Ober Maxdorf) is a village in the town of Lučany nad Nisou in Jablonec nad Nisou District. It can be found roughly 2 km (1.2 mi) northwest from Lučany nad Nisou. As of 2008, there were 157 addresses registered here. In 2001, the village had 138 inhabitants. It lies between the Maxovski ridge and the Bramberk observation tower on Krásný Hill, 797 m (2,615 ft). The highest peak of Horní Maxov is Slovanka, 820 m (2,690 ft), part of the Maxovski ridge.

Jiřetín pod Bukovou (until 1950 Jiřetín; German: Georgenthal) is a municipality and village in Jablonec nad Nisou District in the Liberec Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 500 inhabitants.

Slovanka (German: Seibthübel) is a hill situated 820 m above sea level in the central Jizera Mountains in the area of Lučany nad Nisou, between Královka and Bramberk, in the Czech Republic. There is an observation tower in the settlement, which was built in 1887. It is primarily made from iron and is 14 metres high, with 56 steps to the top. It was rebuilt for 550.000 Kč and reopened on 5 July 2000.

Lázně Libverda (German: Bad Liebwerda) is a spa municipality and village in Liberec District in the Liberec Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 500 inhabitants.
