James City Historic District is a national historic district located near Madison, Madison County, Virginia. The district encompasses 14 contributing buildings in the rural hamlet of James City. They consist of late-18th-, early-to-late 19th-, and early-20th century commercial, residential, and agricultural buildings. The commercial buildings include two stores, a tavern and a blacksmith shop.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Battle of Cedar Mountain

The Battle of Cedar Mountain, also known as Slaughter's Mountain or Cedar Run, took place on August 9, 1862, in Culpeper County, Virginia, as part of the American Civil War. Union forces under Maj. Gen. Nathaniel P. Banks attacked Confederate forces under Maj. Gen. Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson near Cedar Mountain as the Confederates marched on Culpeper Court House to forestall a Union advance into central Virginia. After nearly being driven from the field in the early part of the battle, a Confederate counterattack broke the Union lines resulting in a Confederate victory. The battle was the first combat of the Northern Virginia campaign.

Culpeper Battlefields State Park

Culpeper Battlefields State Park is a state park currently under development in Culpeper County, Virginia. The park was authorized for creation by Governor Glenn Youngkin on 21 June 2022 and is scheduled to officially open on 1 July 2024, although many of the sites were previously protected and are now open to the public. It will be the first state park in Culpeper County and the northern Virginia Piedmont region. The park will feature several disconnected battlefields where major engagements took place during the American Civil War, with primary focus on the Cedar Mountain battlefield, just south of Culpeper, and Brandy Station Battlefield, which took place northeast of the town. In addition, parts of the battlefields at Kelly's Ford, Rappahannock Station, and the Union winter quarters on Hansbrough's Ridge near Stevensburg will be included in the park.

Locust Hill (Locust Dale, Virginia)

Locust Hill is a historic home and farm complex located at Locust Dale, Madison County, Virginia. The two-story frame house incorporates an original side-passage- plan section dating to 1834. which was enlarged and given a two-tier Doric order front porch probably about 1849. About 1900 a three-story bathroom tower, a summer kitchen, and a brick greenhouse wing were added. The house includes Federal and Greek Revival style elements. Also on the property are the contributing Willis's School (1897), smokehouse, cistern, dairy, brick lined pit, the site of a water tower, chicken house, Locust Dale store and Post Office (1880s), and Fertilizer House (1934).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Hartland Institute

Hartland Institute, officially Hartland Institute of Health and Education, is a self-supporting Seventh-day Adventist educational organization operated by members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. It is located in Rapidan, Virginia in the United States. The institution was established in 1983. It consists of Hartland College (a Christian missionary college), a lifestyle center, a K–9 school, and a bookstore. Its lifestyle center offers natural healing techniques and hydrotherapy. Its educational training program is centered on the Bible and the counsels of Ellen White. It is also the home of the traveling singing group The Three Angels' Chorale, its touring choir. They have trimonthly convocations which include sermons and songs. Hartland Institute's first president was Dr. Colin D. Standish (1983–2011). Key figures in its history include Colin Standish and Hal Mayer. In March 2011, Norbert Restrepo, Jr. (born 1969) assumed the role of second President of Hartland Institute. He was elected in May 2010 by the Hartland Institute Board's unanimous vote. When selected, he had been Director of Las Delicias Institute located in Armenia, Colombia, South America, for 14 years (1996–2010). Hartland Institute also owns and operates a radio station, 89.1 FM WRLP, which is licensed to Orange, Virginia and is an affiliate of Radio 74 Internationale.
