Bena is an unincorporated community in Gloucester County, Virginia, United States. The community is located on Virginia State Route 216, 2.5 miles (4.0 km) east-northeast of Gloucester Point. Bena has a post office with ZIP code 23018. The historic Little England plantation house is in the area and Bena was home to the Little England Daffodil Farm.

The Gloucester Point Archaeological District is a site at the tip of Gloucester Point, Virginia. The district includes the historic center of colonial Gloucestertown, as well as military sites from both the American Revolutionary War (when it was fortified by the British before the Siege of Yorktown) and the American Civil War. The site may also have remains of fortifications dating to the 17th century.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Gloucester Point is a census-designated place (CDP) in Gloucester County, Virginia, United States. The population was 9,402 at the 2010 census. It is home to the College of William & Mary's Virginia Institute of Marine Science, a graduate school for the study of oceanography.

The Battle of Gloucester Point, Virginia was the first reported exchange of fire in the American Civil War, following the surrender of Fort Sumter. As Lincoln extended the Union blockade to include Virginia, the rebels (notionally Confederates) tried to deny Union access to the local estuaries. On May 7, 1861, Lieutenant Thomas O. Selfridge Jr. commanding the USS Yankee was ordered to reconnoitre the new fortifications at Gloucester Point opposite Yorktown. Shots were exchanged, causing no casualties, Selfridge claiming that his guns were too small to damage the battery, commanded by Lieutenant John Thompson Brown, credited with firing the first cannon shot of the war in Virginia.

The Moore House is a historic building located within Colonial National Historical Park, in York County, Virginia. During the American Revolutionary War, it was the site of negotiations for British General Charles Cornwallis's surrender at the Siege of Yorktown.

The George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge (known locally as simply the Coleman Bridge) is a double swing bridge that spans the York River between Yorktown and Gloucester Point, in the United States state of Virginia. It connects the Peninsula and Middle Peninsula regions of Tidewater, Virginia. The bridge is the only public crossing of the York River, though State Route 33 crosses both of its tributaries (the Mattaponi and Pamunkey Rivers) just upriver of their confluence at West Point.

TRACEN Cape May is the only U.S. Coast Guard Base used for Basic Military Training or "boot camp". TRACEN Yorktown, TRACEN Petaluma, Maritime Law Enforcement Academy, and the Aviation Technical Training Center are locations for Coast Guard's apprentice level "A" and advanced level "C" Schools.

The siege of Yorktown, also known as the Battle of Yorktown and the surrender at Yorktown, began September 28, 1781, and ended on October 19, 1781, at exactly 10:30 am in Yorktown, Virginia. It was a decisive victory by a combined force of the American Continental Army troops led by General George Washington with support from Marquis de Lafayette and French Army troops led by Comte de Rochambeau and a French naval force commanded by Comte de Grasse over the British Army commanded by British Lieutenant General Charles Cornwallis. The siege of Yorktown was the last major land battle of the American Revolutionary War in North America, and led to the surrender of General Cornwallis and the capture of both him and his army. The Continental Army's victory at Yorktown prompted the British government to negotiate an end to the conflict.

The Yorktown Victory Monument is a monument erected in Colonial National Historical Park in Yorktown, Virginia, commemorating the 1781 victory at Yorktown and the alliance with France that brought about the end of the American Revolution and the resulting peace with England after the American Revolutionary War. Designed by Richard Morris Hunt, the monument was installed in 1884. At the top stands a figure of Liberty sculpted by John Quincy Adams Ward. That element was destroyed by lightning in 1942. It was replaced in 1957 by a figure of Victory by Oskar J. W. Hansen.

Grace Church (also known as York-Hampton Parish Church) is a historic Episcopal church and cemetery at Route 1003 and Main Street in Yorktown, Virginia. It was built in 1697 and later updated with a Greek Revival style. Thomas Nelson, Jr., a signer of the Declaration of Independence and other pre-Revolution Founding Fathers attended the church.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.

The Sessions–Pope–Sheild House, also known as Sessions House or Sheild House, is a historic home located at Yorktown, York County, Virginia. It was built in 1691, and is a 1+1⁄2-story, five-bay by two bay, brick Southern Colonial dwelling. It has a clipped gable roof with dormers. It has two T-shaped end chimney. Also on the property is a contributing archaeological site.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.
