Riverview (Port Royal, Virginia)

Townfield, or Robert Gilchrist House, is a historic home located at Port Royal, Caroline County, Virginia. The original section was built between 1740 and 1747, and is a 1+1⁄2-story, central passage plan frame dwelling in the Georgian style. It has a gable roof and dining room and a projecting pavilion addition built in 1823. Attached to the original house is a two-story, gable-roofed, Federal hall-and-parlor-plan addition, constructed in 1857 at a right angle to the dining room. This forms the stem of the overall "L" plan. Also on the property is a contributing family cemetery. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. It is located in the Port Royal Historic District

Port Royal is an incorporated town in Caroline County, Virginia, United States. The population was 126 at the 2010 census. Port Royal was established in the mid-17th century in the Colony of Virginia primarily as a port at the head of the navigable reach of the Rappahannock River for export of tobacco, Virginia's cash crop. The town developed along an early stage road, which brought passengers and freight for embarkation on ships at the river. It is near the crossroads of the busy modern highways of U.S. Route 17 and U.S. Route 301.

Port Conway is an unincorporated community on the north side of the Rappahannock River in King George County, in the Northern Neck of Virginia. It is opposite Port Royal, which is on the south side of the river in Caroline County. James Madison, the fourth President of the United States, was born in Port Conway on March 16, 1751, at Belle Grove plantation. The plantation was the childhood home of his mother, Eleanor Rose "Nelly" Conway, the daughter of its owner, Francis Conway, for whom Port Conway was named. On April 26, 1865, after assassinating President Abraham Lincoln, John Wilkes Booth and his traveling companion David Herold, with Union cavalry in pursuit, crossed the Rappahannock River at Port Conway. The cavalry caught up with them at Garrett's Farm, south of Port Royal, where Herold surrendered and Booth was killed. In addition to Belle Grove, the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Millbank, and Woodlawn Historic and Archeological District are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Belle Grove is a historic plantation located on U.S. Route 301 in Port Conway, Virginia. The present plantation house was built in 1790. James Madison, a Founding Father and the fourth President of the United States, was born on March 16, 1751, at Belle Grove plantation in an earlier house which no longer stands. Belle Grove plantation was also the childhood home of his mother, Eleanor Rose "Nelly" Conway. Her father Francis Conway was the namesake for Port Conway. On April 11, 1973, Belle Grove was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Emmanuel Episcopal Church is an historic Episcopal church located on the west side of U.S. Route 301, just north of the Rappahannock River in Port Conway, Virginia, in the United States. Emmanuel Church and its historic graveyard are located in front of Belle Grove. In 1751, future President James Madison was born at Belle Grove, the childhood home of his mother, Eleanor Rose "Nelly" Conway. On January 7, 1987, Emmanuel Church was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The pipe organ, built by Henry Erben, is original to the building and is in continual use during services.

Port Royal Cross Roads is an unincorporated community in Caroline County, in the U.S. state of Virginia. The community is located where U.S. Route 301 crosses U.S. Route 17. It is also the location of the last remaining Horne's.

Milbank is an unincorporated community in King George County, Virginia, United States.

Millbank is a historic home and archaeological site and national historic district located near Port Conway, King George County, Virginia. It encompasses 1 contributing building, 8 contributing sites, and 1 contributing structure. Among the archaeological sites are the A. Fitzhugh Plantation Site including the smokehouse and chimney / kitchen sites; the Ballentine Site; the Brick Rubble Site; the Nail Field Site; the Old House Swamp Pointe Site; and a probable Mill Site. The current house is an I-house dwelling built about 1900 on a basement dating to the 18th century. The plantation was initially settled in 1669; the land has been the site of residential occupation and agricultural endeavors since that time. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Camden is an Italian Villa-style house on the Rappahannock River just downriver of Port Royal, Virginia. Built 1857–1859, it is one of the nation's finest examples of an Italianate country house. It is located on the southeast bank of the Rappahannock River, about 0.5 miles (0.80 km) north of the intersection of Camden Road (Virginia State Route 686) and United States Route 17. Camden was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1971 for its architecture.
