Trempealeau ( TREM-pə-loh) is a village located along the Mississippi River in Trempealeau County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 1,843 at the 2020 census. The village is surrounded by the Town of Trempealeau.

Lock and Dam No. 6 is a lock and dam located near Trempealeau, Wisconsin on the Upper Mississippi River near river mile 714.1. It was constructed and placed in operation in June 1936. The last major rehabilitation was from 1989 to 1999. The dam consists of 893 feet (272.2 m) long concrete structure with five roller gates and 10 tainter gates. Its earth embankment is 2,600 feet (792.5 m)long and the concrete overflow spillway is 1,000 feet (304.8 m) long. The lock is 110 feet (33.5 m) wide by 600 feet (182.9 m) long. The lock and dam are owned and operated by the St. Paul District of the United States Army Corps of Engineers-Mississippi Valley Division.

Richmond Township is a township in Winona County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 699 at the 2010 census.Richmond Township was organized in 1858, and named for a French settler.

Perrot State Park is a state park in Wisconsin's Driftless Area at the confluence of the Trempealeau and Mississippi rivers. The 1,270-acre (514 ha) park features views of steep limestone bluffs and the river valleys. It has observation platforms for watching wildlife, including the variety of birds which inhabit or migrate through the park. Hiking trails and camping are available. Mountain bike trails penetrate deep inside the park. The park protects two State Natural Areas including Brady's Bluff Prairie and Trempealeau Mountain, a cone-shaped mountain surrounded by water. The Native Americans of the area traditionally considered the mountain sacred and used it as a landmark for meetings. Some earthwork mounds made by ancient Native American cultures are located in the park. This facility protects the site of one of the earliest encampments by European explorers in the upper Mississippi. The park is named for Nicolas Perrot, a French explorer who was the first to write about the area. The Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge borders on the north.

Lamoille (also spelled La Moille) is an unincorporated community in Richmond Township, Winona County, Minnesota, United States. Big Trout Creek and the Mississippi River meet at Lamoille.

Fort Trempealeau was founded in 1685 by Nicholas Perrot and a groupe of Canadiens. In the fall of 1685, Perrot and his men arrived at Mont Trempealeau by canoe. The Winnebagos called this mountain, Hay-nee-ah-cheh, or the mountain in the water. That is why Perrot called it in French, la montagne qui trempe à l'eau, or Trempealeau mountain. There, Perrot and his men built a protective shelter in preparation for winter. Several weeks earlier they had left La Baye Green Bay and crossed Wisconsin via the Fox and Wisconsin Rivers to reach the Mississippi Valley. The purpose of this expedition was to establish alliances with the Ioway and Dakota Indians in order to expand French interests in the fur trade market. Although Perrot's venture was not the first French excursion into the upper Mississippi Valley, his was the first attempt to establish a foothold in this region. In the spring of 1686 the Trempealeau site was abandoned for a more advantageous location along Lake Pepin where Perrot built Fort Saint Antoine. Over the next thirty-five years French economic fortunes in the upper Mississippi Valley waxed and waned. It was not until 1731, and the end of the Fox Indian wars, that the French under the command of René Godefroy, sieur de Linctot returned to Trempealeau and established another trading post.

The community is located southeast of Winona along Highways 61 and 14, near the junction with Winona County Road 3. Richmond Creek flows through the community, with the Mississippi River located nearby. Nearby places include Winona, Lamoille, Dakota, Dresbach, Nodine, and La Crescent. Great River Bluffs State Park and Interstate 90 are also nearby.

Brady's Bluff Prairie State Natural Area is a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources-designated State Natural Area featuring a steep, southwest-facing bluff rising over 450 feet above the Mississippi River. Over 100 species of prairie plants have been found at this site.

Cedar Creek is a stream in Winona County, in the U.S. state of Minnesota. It is a tributary of the Mississippi River. Cedar Creek was named for the red cedar trees near the stream.

Trempealeau Mountain State Natural Area is a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources-designated State Natural Area consisting of a 425-foot conical rock mound surrounded on three sides by the Mississippi and Trempealeau Rivers. It is one of only 3 solid rock islands along the entire Mississippi River.

Pickwick is an unincorporated community in Homer Township, Winona County, Minnesota, United States.

Pickwick Mill is a historic gristmill in the unincorporated community of Pickwick, Minnesota, United States, near the city of Winona. It was constructed in the mid-1850s and is now operated as a milling museum. Pickwick Mill was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970 for having state-level significance in the themes of agriculture, architecture, and industry. It was nominated for being one of southeast Minnesota's oldest surviving water-powered mills, serving as a key local industry in its day and a Winona County landmark to the present.
