St. Thomas More Catholic High School (STM) is a co-educational, Roman Catholic high school located in Lafayette, Louisiana. It opened its doors in 1982 and is named after the 16th-century saint Thomas More. It is owned and operated by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lafayette.

Acadiana Mall (French: Centre commercial de l’Acadiana) is an enclosed regional shopping mall in the city of Lafayette, Louisiana, located at the intersection of Johnston Street (U.S. Route 167) and Ambassador Caffery Parkway (Louisiana Highway 3073). It opened in 1979 and was developed by Robert B. Aikens & Associates, but is now owned by Namdar Realty Group. Currently, Acadiana Mall houses three department store anchors (Dillard's, JCPenney and Macy's). In 2015, Sears Holdings spun off 235 of its properties, including the Sears at Acadiana Mall, into Seritage Growth Properties. Sears closed in September 2017 leaving its site vacant. On June 4, 2020, it was announced that JCPenney would be closing as part of a plan to close 154 stores nationwide. However this store was removed from the closing list on July 13, 2020.JCPenney built in 1990 on the site of a closed Selber Brothers, while Dillard's was formerly D. H. Holmes. The Macy's store opened as Goudchaux's/Maison Blanche, and was sold to Parisian in 1998. Parisian became Foley's in 2001 before converting again to Macy's in 2006. The mall received a minor facelift in the early 1990s and a major renovation in 2004, bringing in a more contemporary look. On February 21, 2013, the mall changed its name back to Acadiana Mall.

The Battle of Vermilion Bayou or Battle of Pinhook Bridge was fought on April 17, 1863, the third battle in a series of running battles between Union Major General Nathaniel Prentice Banks and Confederate Major General Richard Taylor. The battle was fought after both the Battle of Fort Bisland and the Battle of Irish Bend. On October 9, 1863 a skirmish with Confederate & Federal cavalry occurred at the same location.

On July 23, 2015, a mass shooting occurred at the Grand 16 movie theater in Lafayette, Louisiana, United States. John Russell Houser, 59, opened fire during a showing of the film Trainwreck, killing two people and injuring nine others before committing suicide.

The Vermilion Inn, better known as Café Vermilionville, is a historic building located at 1304 Pinhook Road in Lafayette, Louisiana. Built c.1835, the inn is a two-story Greek Revival structure located near the bank of Vermilion River. Originally in a rural landscape, it's now located in the middle of expanding suburbs of Lafayette. The area where it is located was the site of the Battle of Vermillion Bayou of 1863, at which time the structure was occupied by Union troops.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 13, 1983.

Blackham Coliseum is a multipurpose arena in Lafayette, Louisiana. It was built on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus in 1949 as the home to the then-named SLI Bulldogs, now called the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball teams. The arena was named for Stafford Morgan Blackham, former dean of the Department of Animal Husbandry at SLI, and as such it was built to host livestock exhibitions as well as athletics (in a similar manner to the usage of LSU's Parker Coliseum). It replaced the 1,500-seat Earl K. Long Gymnasium as home to the athletics teams. It remained the home for the men's team until the Cajundome was completed in 1984. The women continue to play the majority of their games at Earl K. Long. Blackham hosted the Southland Conference men's basketball tournament in 1982. In the 1960s, it became popular as a venue for pop concerts where acts like The Supremes, James Brown and Jackie Wilson. The Supremes played to soldout audiences on their "Symphony Tour 1965". Today it is still in use, seating 5,500 for basketball and up to 9,800 for concerts. It also features 25,000 square feet (2,300 m2) of space at the main arena, with two barns adding 46,500 square feet (4,300 m2) of space. Altogether, the three buildings can also be used for trade shows, rodeos and conventions. It was home to the Acadiana Mudbugs of the Southern Indoor Football League for their 2009 season, and in fall 2009, the revived Louisiana IceGators began play there as a member of the Southern Professional Hockey League.In April 2009, the venue held its first heavy metal concert, the 2009 No Fear Music Tour featuring Lamb Of God, As I Lay Dying, Children of Bodom, God Forbid and Municipal Waste. The venue serves as home to the Grammy-styled, annual Le Cajun Music Awards Festival held every August by the Cajun French Music Association, an association of Cajun music enthusiasts for the preservation of the Cajun music, language, heritage and culture.
