Batenburg Castle

Batenburg is a city in the municipality of Wijchen, in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is located on the Meuse, about 15 km west of Nijmegen. It is well known for the remains of a medieval fort in the center of the town. Batenburg received city rights in 1349. Until 1984, Batenburg was a separate municipality.It was first mentioned in 1166 as Battenburg. The etymology in unclear. Batenburg developed around Batenburg Castle. In 1347, it received city rights., and by 1400, had walls and two city gates. The castle dated from the mid-12th century. It was destroyed and rebuilt many times until 1795 and was later used as a stone quarry. The medieval Dutch Reformed Church was heavy damaged around 1600 and rebuilt between 1608 and 1634 without a choir. The tower dates from the early 15th century. The city did not develop, and was home to 441 people in 1840.

Batenburg Windmill is a post mill in Batenburg, Gelderland, Netherlands which was built in the 18th century and is under repair as of February 2014. The mill is listed as a Rijksmonument.

Dieden, Demen en Langel is a former municipality in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is now part of the municipality of Oss. The municipality covered the three villages Dieden, Demen, and Neerlangel (then just called "Langel"), located on the left bank of the Maas. Dieden, Demen en Langel was a separate municipality until 1923, when it was merged with Ravenstein.

Deursen-Dennenburg is a village in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Oss, about 8 km northeast of Oss itself. The village was formed from two former villages: the main part consists of Deursen, and the western end of the village used to be called Dennenburg. "Deursen en Dennenburg" was a separate municipality until 1923, when it was merged with Ravenstein.

Ravenstein is a railway station located in Ravenstein, Netherlands. The station originally opened on 4 June 1881 and is located on the Tilburg–Nijmegen railway. The services are currently operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen.

Ravenstein is a city and a former municipality in the south of the Netherlands, in the province of North Brabant. The former municipality covered an area of 42.68 km² (of which 0.96 km² water). In 2003 it was incorporated into the city of Oss. Ravenstein was founded by Walraven van Valkenburg. It received city rights in 1380. From 1631 until 1796, Ravenstein and the surrounding area were part of the Duchy of Palatinate-Neuburg and was a Catholic enclave within the Dutch Republic.

Horssen is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Druten, and lies about 10 km northwest of Wijchen. Horssen was a separate municipality until 1984, when it was merged with Druten.

Molenhoek is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of Druten, and lies about 11 km northwest of Wijchen.It was first mentioned in 1899 as Molenhoek, and means "wind mill corner" after a wind mill which was demolished in 1922. The postal authorities have placed Molenboek under Horssen

Bergharen is a village in the Netherlands, in the municipality of Wijchen. It was a separate municipality until 1984. There is a windmill, De Verrekijker, which has been converted to a holiday cottage.The village was first mentioned in the 12th century as Haren, and means "hill on a sandy ridge". The tower of the Dutch Reformed Church dates from the 14th century and has 12th century elements. The nave was built between 1475 and 1525. The original choir was demolished and replaced in 1826. The Catholic St Anna Church was constructed in 1893. In 1840, it was home to 734 people.

Huisseling en Neerloon is a former municipality in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It covered the villages of Huisseling and Neerloon. Huisseling en Neerloon merged with Ravenstein in 1923.

Hernen Castle is a Dutch castle from the 14th century. Hernen Castle is located in the south of Gelderland, in the village of Hernen (municipality of Wijchen), in the far west of the Rijk van Nijmegen. It probably originated around 1350, and then consisted of only one residential tower (keep). Later it was repeatedly expanded, with the former courtyard increasingly being filled. The residential tower collapsed in the 18th century. The castle has not been inhabited since the 17th century and has never been besieged. Partly because of that, little has been cultivated, and it has been well preserved. It is the only castle in the Netherlands with covered weather corridors. In 1883 it was bought by the Den Tex family. A daughter donated the castle in April 1940 to the Friends of the Geldersche Kasteelen Foundation, which was set up especially for this purpose. A part of the castle is accessible; in another part is occupied by the A.A. Bredius Foundation. In 1968, the television series Floris was recorded at this castle.

Niftrik is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is located in the municipality of Wijchen, about 4 km southwest of that town. The village was first mentioned in 1117 as Nifterka. The etymology is unclear.The first church was built in 1308. After the Eighty Years' War, it became a Dutch Reformed church. In 1715, the Catholics built a clandestine church in the village. In 1795, the village church was returned to Roman Catholic church. A new church was constructed between 1891 and 1892. On 10 May 1940, the day of the German invasion of the Netherlands, the church as well as the houses which were visible over the dike were demolished by the Dutch army in order to have an unobstructed view. The church was rebuilt later that year.Niftrik was home to 327 people 1840. Niftrik was a separate municipality until 1818, when it was merged with Wijchen.
