The Cesano is a river in the Marche region of Italy. Its source is near Monte Catria on the border between the province of Perugia and the province of Pesaro e Urbino. The river flows northeast through Pesaro e Urbino before forming the border between Pesaro e Urbino and the province of Ancona for a short distance. It continues flowing northeast through Pesaro e Urbino and flows past Pergola before becoming the border with Ancona again near San Lorenzo in Campo. The river flows northeast near Mondavio, Corinaldo and Monte Porzio before the province of Ancona extends westward beyond the bank of the river for a short distance near Mondolfo. Finally, the river flows into the Adriatic Sea north of Senigallia and south of Marotta and Fano.In Roman times the Cesano was known as Suasanus, since it passed through the city of Suasa. Under the river's bed a petrified forest of 50,000 years ago has been discovered.

Mondolfo is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Pesaro e Urbino in the Italian region Marche, located about 35 kilometres (22 mi) northwest of Ancona and about 25 kilometres (16 mi) southeast of Pesaro, on the Adriatic Sea. Mondolfo borders the following municipalities: Castel Colonna, Fano, San Costanzo, Senigallia, Trecastelli. It is one of I Borghi più belli d'Italia ("The most beautiful villages of Italy").

The Battle of Scapezzano was a short engagement during the Neapolitan War on 1 May 1815 between an Austrian corps under Adam Albert von Neipperg and a Neapolitan division under Michele Carrascosa. By May 1815, the war had turned against the Neapolitans and Murat had been driven back to his original headquarters in Ancona. However, the two pursuing Austrian corps under the command of Neipperg and Bianchi had become separated by the Apennine Mountains. Neipperg's force of 15,300 had directly followed the retreating Neapolitans along the Adriatic coast, whilst Bianchi's force of 12,000 had marched on Foligno, in the centre of Italy, to cut off the line of retreat back to Naples. Murat, who now had over 30,000 men in Ancona, hoped to turn and defeat one Austrian corps before the two forces could join together. Murat decided to send his main force against Bianchi and chose an area around Tolentino, west of Ancona to give battle. He dispatched a division under Carascosa north along the Adriatic coast to hold Neipperg until Bianchi had been defeated. However, following intense manoeuvring and a few small skirmishes, the Neapolitans were in danger of becoming surrounded and retreated in an orderly fashion. This allowed Neipperg to threaten the main Neapolitan force under Joachim Murat engaged at the Battle of Tolentino. This engagement eventually resulted in a decisive victory for the Austrians causing the war to end with the Treaty of Casalanza on 20 May.

San Costanzo is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Pesaro e Urbino in the Italian region Marche, located about 40 kilometres (25 mi) northwest of Ancona and about 20 kilometres (12 mi) southeast of Pesaro.

Monterado was a comune (municipality) in the Province of Ancona in the Italian region Marche, located about 35 kilometres (22 mi) west of Ancona. The municipality of Monterado was disbanded 1 January 2014 and united to Castel Colonna and Ripe in the new municipality of Trecastelli.

Senigallia (or Sinigaglia in Old Italian; Romagnol: S'nigaja) is a comune (municipality) and port town on Italy's Adriatic coast. It is situated in the province of Ancona, in the Italian region of Marche, and lies approximately 30 kilometers north-west of the provincial capital city Ancona. Senigallia's small port is located at the mouth of the River Misa. It is one of the endpoints of the Massa–Senigallia Line, one of the most important dividing lines (isoglosses) in the classification of the Romance languages.

The Misa (Latin: Misus) is a river in the Marche region of Italy. It runs for over 48 kilometres through the region. The source of the river lies south of Arcevia in the province of Ancona. The river flows northeast near Serra de' Conti, Ostra Vetere and Ostra. The river is joined by the Nevola before entering the Adriatic Sea near Senigallia.

The Metauro is a river in the Marche region of central Italy. It rises in the Apennine Mountains and runs east for 110 kilometres (68 mi) or 121 kilometres (75 mi) if the Meta is included as its uppermost reach. The name of the river in Latin is Metaurus or Mataurus. In Ancient Greek, the name of the river is Métauros, Μέταυρος which stems simply from the union of the two torrents: Meta, running from the Apennine pass Bocca Trabaria, at an elevation of 1,044 metres (3,425 ft), and Auro, flowing from Monte Maggiore, at an elevation of 1,384 metres (4,541 ft). The source of the river is located near Monte dei Frati in the border region between the provinces of Pesaro e Urbino, Arezzo and Perugia. It flows east through Pesaro e Urbino near Mercatello sul Metauro, Sant'Angelo in Vado (where the river forms the Cascata del Sasso, "Waterfall of the Stone"), Urbania, Fermignano, Fossombrone (in whose territory it receives the waters of the Candigliano), and, after flowing into a tight valley, the Gola del Furlo, Montemaggiore al Metauro, from which it starts to flow in a plain area. The river flows northeast near Calcinelli, Saltara, Lucrezia, Cartoceto and Cuccurano before flowing into the Adriatic Sea near Fano.

Trecastelli is an Italian comune in the province of Ancona, in Marche, created in 2014 from the merger of the comuni of Ripe, Castel Colonna and Monterado. These three towns are now frazioni of the administration. The municipal seat is in Ripe. The municipality borders with Corinaldo, Mondolfo, Monte Porzio, Ostra, San Costanzo and Senigallia.
