Boulogne-Maritime was a former railway station and port in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France. Ferries between England and France used the terminal. The Station was the second most important passenger port of France (after Marseille), seeing 563,000 passengers use the facility in 1938. Following World War II, traffic with England was restored in 1947. In June 1952 a new ferry terminal was opened, located on the site of the previous one established in 1875. The modern redesign of the terminal allowed boarding of cars onto the boats heading for England. The station saw intense activity even in the 1990s. As of 2012, the site "is at the heart of a vast urban redefinition project". Since the station closed, it has been used for various cultural functions, such as a mobile museum (the Centre Pompidou mobile) from June to September 2012.

The Port of Boulogne-sur-Mer is a seaport located on the western coast of the Hauts-de-France region, on the edge of the Pas de Calais, the world's busiest strait for international shipping. It is France's leading fishing port, with a diversified fleet of almost 150 boats. It was also an important link port with England until the end of the 20th century. It became a “regional port” in 2007 as part of port decentralization.

Nausicaá Centre National de la Mer (French pronunciation: [nozika.a sɑ̃tʁ(ə) nɑsjɔnal d(ə) la mɛʁ]) is a public aquarium located in Boulogne-sur-Mer in northern France. It is the largest public aquarium of Europe and attracts more than 800,000 visitors each year. Nausicaa is described as a centre of scientific and technical discovery of the marine environment, focusing primarily on the relationship between man and the sea.

It was created at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Boulogne-sur-Mer. The canton of Le Portel is a former canton situated in the department of the Pas-de-Calais and in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of northern France. It was disbanded following the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. It consisted of 2 communes, which joined the canton of Boulogne-sur-Mer-2 in 2015. It had a total of 18,640 inhabitants (2012).

The Liane is a 38 km long river in the Pas-de-Calais department in northern France. It rises in Quesques and flows into the English Channel at Boulogne-sur-Mer. Other communes along its length include: Selles, Brunembert, Bournonville, Alincthun, Crémarest, Wirwignes, Questrecques, Samer, Carly, Hesdigneul-lès-Boulogne, Isques, Saint-Léonard, Hesdin-l'Abbé, Condette, Saint-Étienne-au-Mont, and Outreau.

The Communauté d'agglomération du Boulonnais, created in January 2000, is a communauté d'agglomération (an intercommunal structure) centered on the city of Boulogne-sur-Mer. It is located in the Pas-de-Calais department, in the Hauts-de-France region in northern France. Its area is 205.1 km2. Its population was 112,836 in 2018, of which 40,664 in Boulogne-sur-Mer proper.

Boulogne-Ville is one of the railway stations serving the town Boulogne-sur-Mer, Pas-de-Calais department, northern France. The other station is Boulogne-Tintelleries.

The Raid on Boulogne in 1804 was a naval assault by elements of the Royal Navy on the fortified French port of Boulogne-sur-Mer, during the Napoleonic Wars. It differed from the conventional tactics of naval assaults of the period by utilizing a wide range of new equipment produced by the American inventor Robert Fulton, with the backing of the Admiralty. Despite its ambitious aims the assault produced little material damage to the French fleet anchored in the harbour, but did perhaps contribute to a growing sense of defeatism amongst the French as to their chances of crossing the English Channel in the face of the Royal Navy and launching a successful invasion of the United Kingdom.

The First Siege of Boulogne took place from 19 July to 14 September 1544 and the Second Siege of Boulogne took place in October 1544. An earlier Siege of Boulogne had taken place in 1492 when the English Tudor King Henry VII laid siege to the lightly defended lower town of Boulogne in the Pas-de-Calais, France. Fifty years later as allies of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, during the war against the French, the English returned led by Henry VII's son and heir, Henry VIII. Boulogne was fortified and defended as an English possession on the French mainland between 14 September 1544 and March 1550.
