Turek, Poland

Turek County (Polish: powiat turecki) is a unit of territorial administration and local government (powiat) in Greater Poland Voivodeship, west-central Poland. It came into being on 1 January 1999 as a result of the Polish local government reforms passed in 1998. Its administrative seat and largest town is Turek, which lies 117 kilometres (73 mi) east of the regional capital Poznań. The county also contains the towns of Tuliszków, lying 16 km (10 mi) north-west of Turek, and Dobra, 15 km (9 mi) south-east of Turek. The county covers an area of 929.4 square kilometres (358.8 sq mi). As of 2006 its total population is 83,635, out of which the population of Turek is 29,302, that of Tuliszków is 3,393, that of Dobra is 1,511, and the rural population is 49,429.

Gmina Turek is a rural gmina (administrative district) in Turek County, Greater Poland Voivodeship, in west-central Poland. Its seat is the town of Turek, although the town is not part of the territory of the gmina. The gmina covers an area of 109.42 square kilometres (42.2 sq mi), and as of 2006 its total population is 7,605.

The Józef Piłsudski monument in Turek is a notable Turek statue, located in The Żermina Składkowska's Park. The monument was designed by Józef Gosławski, during artist's stay in Italy. The monument was designed for the competition organized by Adam Mickiewicz Association in Rome in 1936. The cast of this sculpture was ordered by municipalities of Turek and it is located in the city since 1990. The monument depicts a bust of Józef Piłsudski in his uniform. The following inscription is located on the pedestal: MARSHAL JÓZEF PIŁSUDSKI 1867-1935 HONORARY CITIZEN OF TUREK CITY (Polish: MARSZAŁEK JÓZEF PIŁSUDSKI 1867-1935 HONOROWY OBYWATEL MIASTA TURKU).

Turkowice [turkɔˈvit͡sɛ] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Turek, within Turek County, Greater Poland Voivodeship, in west-central Poland. It lies approximately 4 kilometres (2 mi) south of Turek and 118 km (73 mi) south-east of the regional capital Poznań.

Kowale Księże [kɔˈvalɛ ˈkɕɛ̃ʐɛ] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Turek, within Turek County, Greater Poland Voivodeship, in west-central Poland. It lies approximately 6 kilometres (4 mi) south of Turek and 119 km (74 mi) south-east of the regional capital Poznań.

Paździerowice [paʑd͡ʑɛrɔˈvit͡sɛ] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Malanów, within Turek County, Greater Poland Voivodeship, in west-central Poland. It lies approximately 5 kilometres (3 mi) east of Malanów, 7 km (4 mi) south-west of Turek, and 116 km (72 mi) south-east of the regional capital Poznań.
