The Tri-State Zoological Park was a 16-acre (6.5 ha) zoo located in Cumberland, Maryland, United States. The nonprofit zoo opened in 2003, and contains mainly exotic animals rescued or in need of homes, including lions, tigers, primates, various exotics, birds and reptiles. The zoo was privately owned by Bob Candy of Cumberland and has no paid employees, run only by volunteers.In February, 2020, four years after beginning a legal battle, PETA forcibly removed three big cats from Tri-State Zoological Park to a facility in Colorado.The zoo was not accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.On October 2, 2022, the zoo permanently closed its doors.

Union Grove Schoolhouse is a historic one-room school building in Dickens, Allegany County, Maryland. It is a one-story frame building, rectangular in plan, containing a single classroom and an entrance vestibule. It is the last remaining one-room schoolhouse on its original site and in unaltered condition in Allegany County.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Folck's Mill is a site containing the remains of a historic grist and saw complex located near Cumberland, Allegany County, Maryland. The stone foundation of the mill, measuring 30 feet by 40 feet, is the principal feature of the site. It is historically significant for its association with the August 1, 1864, Civil War "Battle of Folck's Mill." In that battle, Union troops commanded by General Benjamin F. Kelley engaged General John McCausland’s Confederate forces as they advanced along the Baltimore Pike towards Cumberland after having burned the town of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, two days previously.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

Phoenix Mill Farm, historically known as Mill Run Farm, is a historic home located in Dickens, Allegany County, Maryland, United States. It is a 2+1⁄2-story Flemish bond brick structure showing Greek Revival style influences built about 1845. It has a gable roof and double flush chimneys. On the property is the site of Smouse Mill. The home was erected for John Jacob Smouse, who operated the mill.The Phoenix Mill Farm was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.Was used as a Bed and Breakfast till 2015 when the owner decided to sell the property.

Big Bottom Farm is a farm in Allegany County, Maryland, USA on the National Register of Historic Places. The Greek Revival house was built circa 1845, possibly by John Jacob Smouse, and exhibits a level of historically accurate detailing unusual for the area. The property includes a late 19th-century barn and several frame outbuildings.

The college was founded in 1961 and is accredited by the Middle State Commission on Higher Education. The college offers 31 two-year degree programs, 30 certificate programs, and 10 letters of recognitions. The college also has campuses and extension sites in Cumberland, Maryland; Everett, Pennsylvania; Oakland, Maryland; Somerset, Pennsylvania; and LaVale, Maryland.

Lake Habeeb is a reservoir of 243 acres (0.98 km2) and is located in Allegany County, Maryland, United States. The lake is fed by Rocky Gap Run, and nestled against the east side of the southern tip of Evitts Mountain. The dam was built by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1970 and Rocky Gap State Park formally opened on July 17, 1974, it attains a maximum depth of 74 feet (23 m) near its earthen dam. It offers three public beach areas along Habeeb's 9.4-mile (15.1 km) shoreline, as well as a fishery.The lake is named after Edward Habeeb, a local florist who helped initiate the development of the area. The lake is now situated within the Rocky Gap State Park, also hosting the Rocky Gap Resort and Golf Course.

The CEO is Lesa Diehl.This state psychiatric facility operates 88 beds.The Finan Center provides services to persons who are 18 years of age and older. The Center includes patients with criminal histories, non-criminals who have been involuntarily civilly committed and voluntary patients. The Finan Center is accredited by The Joint Commission. It provides mental health services for adults from Washington, Allegany, Garrett and Frederick counties. It opened in 1979 and is named for Thomas B. Finan, who was an Attorney General of Maryland.

UPMC Western Maryland is a hospital and health system located in Cumberland, Maryland, in Allegany County. The facility, which opened on November 21, 2009, is part of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) system as of February 3, 2020. UPMC Western Maryland was originally established as a combination of Memorial Hospital (Cumberland) and Sacred Heart Hospital (Cumberland), both of which are now closed. It is sometimes confused with Western Maryland Hospital Center, a state-run rehabilitation hospital located in Hagerstown, Maryland.

The name Allegany may come from a local Lenape word, welhik hane or oolikhanna, which means 'best flowing river of the hills' or 'beautiful stream'. A number of counties and a river in the Appalachian region of the U.S. are named Allegany, Allegheny, or Alleghany. Allegany County is part of the Cumberland, MD-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is a part of the Western Maryland "panhandle".
