Kapolei (Hawaiian pronunciation: [kəpoˈlej]) is a planned community in Honolulu County, Hawaiʻi, United States, on the island of Oʻahu. It is colloquially known as the "second city" of Oʻahu, in relation to Honolulu. For statistical purposes, the United States Census Bureau has defined Kapolei as a census-designated place (CDP) within the consolidated city-county of Honolulu. The community takes its name from a volcanic cone, Puʻu o Kapolei. In the Hawaiian language, puʻu means "hill" and Kapo lei means "beloved Kapo". According to legend, Kapo, Goddess of Fertility was sister to Pele, Goddess of Fire and Nāmaka, Goddess of the Sea. Much of the land is part of the estate of industrialist James Campbell. Kapolei's major developer is Kapolei Property Development, a subsidiary of James Campbell Company. Kapolei sits primarily upon former sugarcane and pineapple fields.

Wet'n'Wild Hawaii (formerly Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park) is a Hawaiian water park, located in Kapolei in the City and County of Honolulu on Oahu. The park occupies 29 acres (120,000 m2) of land and has more than 25 rides and attractions. It is currently the only water park in the state of Hawaii. It is one of six water parks operating under the Wet'n'Wild brand globally. Wet'n'Wild Hawaii was defined in the Makakilo City CDP in the 2000 U.S. Census but for the 2010 U.S. Census was redefined as being in Kapolei CDP.

Kalaeloa (Hawaiian pronunciation: [kəlɐe̯ˈlowə]) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Honolulu County, Hawaii, United States. The population was 2,364 at the 2020 census. The community occupies the location of the former Naval Air Station Barbers Point, which was closed in 1999 and subsequently transferred to the State of Hawaiʻi. The geographical name, Ka lae loa, means "long point" in Hawaiian and is the native name for what has been called Barbers Point on Oʻahu. The area was known as Barbers Point because Captain Henry Barber wrecked his ship on a coral shoal at this location on October 31, 1796. In 1993, after the federal government listed Barbers Point for closure, the state legislature established the Barbers Point Naval Air Station Redevelopment Commission (BPNAS-RC) to guide the redevelopment of the former military facilities comprising John Rodgers airfield and 3,700 acres (15 km2) of land along the south shore of Oʻahu between the towns of ʻEwa, Kapolei, and Campbell Industrial Park. On July 1, 2002, the Hawaii Community Development Authority became the redevelopment authority for Kalaeloa. The former Naval Air Station runways and associated facilities are now Kalaeloa Airport. Barbers Point Housing is that part of Kalaeloa retained temporarily by the U.S. Navy for housing.

Naval Air Museum Barbers Point was a military museum in Kapolei, Hawaii.The museum preserves the history of the co-located Naval Air Station Barbers Point. Its exhibits include former U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, and U.S. Marine Corps aircraft including the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II, Douglas A-4 Skyhawk, Lockheed P-3C Orion, and Sikorsky UH-3H Sea King, among others.Established in 1999, the museum was forced to close in June 2020 after longstanding difficulties with the State of Hawaii.

Makakilo (Hawaiian pronunciation: [məkəˈtilo]) or Makakilo City is a census-designated place and residential area located in the ʻEwa District on the island of Oʻahu in the City & County of Honolulu, United States. In Hawaiian, maka kilo means "observing eyes". As of the 2020 census, the CDP had a population of 19,877.

Kapolei High School, located in Kapolei community, in the City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii, United States, on the Island of Oahu, is a public high school. It is a part of the Hawaii Department of Education. On July 24, 2000, Kapolei opened with first-year students. In the 2006–2007 school year, Kapolei High School had over 2,300 students in grades 9–12. Its mascot is the Hurricanes, and the school colors are teal, black and silver. The school's football field has been used as the practice field for the Pro Bowl.Due to the school's MCJROTC achievements, the school is recognized as a Naval Honor School for JROTC.

The Hawaiian Super Prix was a proposed CART FedEx Championship Series exhibition race scheduled for Saturday November 13, 1999. It was to be the final race of the 1999 FedEx Championship Series season, as well as the season ending event for 2000 and beyond. It was to be held on a temporary circuit at the Kalaeloa Airport on the island of Oahu, near Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. The invitation-only event was to utilize an all-star format featuring the top drivers on the circuit. The organizers advertised a $10 million purse – including $5 million to the winner, the largest single-day payout in the history of motorsports to date. 25 days prior to its scheduled running, the race was cancelled by the promoters. Lack of revenue, poor decisions and missteps by management and series officials, and labor dispute involving local stevedores were cited as causes. The failure of the Hawaiian Super Prix was a PR "black eye" for the CART series.

Kalaeloa Airport (IATA: JRF, ICAO: PHJR, FAA LID: JRF), also called John Rodgers Field (the original name of Honolulu International Airport) and formerly Naval Air Station Barbers Point, is a joint civil-military regional airport of the State of Hawaiʻi established on July 1, 1999, to replace the Ford Island NALF facilities which closed on June 30 of the same year. Located on the site of the developing unincorporated town of Kalaeloa and nestled between the Honolulu communities of ʻEwa Beach, Kapolei and Campbell Industrial Park in West Oʻahu, most flights to Kalaeloa Airport originate from commuter airports on the other Hawaiian islands. While Kalaeloa Airport is primarily a commuter facility used by unscheduled air taxis, general aviation and transient and locally based military aircraft, the airport saw first-ever scheduled airline service begin on July 1, 2014, with Mokulele Airlines operating flights to Kahului Airport on Maui. It is included in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2017–2021, in which it is categorized as a regional reliever facility.

Naval Air Station Barbers Point (ICAO: PHJR, FAA LID: JRF), on O'ahu, home to John Rodgers Field (the original name of Honolulu International Airport), is a former United States Navy airfield closed in 1999, and renamed Kalaeloa Airport. Parts of the former air station serve as a film and television studio for the Hawaii State Film Office.

Kualakaʻi station (also known as East Kapolei station) is an elevated Skyline metro station in East Kapolei, Hawaiʻi. The station is located alongside Kualakaʻi Parkway above its intersection with Keahumoa Parkway. The station opened on June 30, 2023, and serves as the western terminus of the line. A 900-space park and ride lot will be added at the station site by 2023.In Hawaiian, "kualakaʻi" means "to show the way, stand and lead". The Hawaiian Station Name Working Group proposed Hawaiian names for the nine rail stations on the ʻEwa end of the rail system (stations west of and including Aloha Stadium) in November 2017, and HART adopted the proposed names on February 22, 2018.

The University of Hawaiʻi – West Oʻahu (UHWO) is a public college in Kapolei, Hawaii. It is part of the University of Hawaiʻi system. It offers baccalaureate degrees in liberal arts and professional studies. UHWO opened in January 1976 and since 1981 has been accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission or its predecessor. In 2007, the school added first- and second-year subjects, becoming a four-year college.UHWO is the US' fastest-growing public baccalaureate college. It has one of the most diverse student populations among four-year public institutions, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education. It is the newest campus in the University of Hawaiʻi, It was established in part to provide access to higher education in Leeward Oʻahu.The college offers undergraduate education. It enrolled 3,182 students in fall 2018, many from Leeward Oʻahu. UHWO also reaches students around the state with its Distance Learning program. About 10 percent of University of Hawaiʻi – West Oʻahu’s enrollment list another island as their permanent address.University of Hawaiʻi – West Oʻahu has the highest percentage of distance and online courses and programs and the highest percentage of part-time students in University of Hawaiʻi. University of Hawaiʻi – West Oʻahu supports the study of Hawaiian language, history and culture. The student:faculty ratio is 24:1. Tuition is among the lowest in the nation.

Marine Corps Air Station Ewa (MCAS Ewa) was a United States Marine Corps air station that was located 7 miles (11 km) west of Pearl Harbor on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. The base was hit during the attack on Pearl Harbor, and later served as the hub for all Marine aviation units heading into combat in the Pacific Theater during World War II. The base was closed in 1952 because its runways were too short for jet aircraft, and expansion was impossible due to the proximity of Naval Air Station Barbers Point. Ewa has been abandoned since 1952; however, two of its runways are still visible from the air and many of the revetments still remain in good condition.
