Darby Transportation Center

Darby Free Library is a public library at 1001 Main Street in Darby Borough, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Founded as the Darby Library Company in 1743 – just 12 years after Benjamin Franklin organized the Library Company of Philadelphia – it remains one of the oldest libraries in the United States. Although it was a subscription library until 1898, it claims to be "the oldest library in the United States in continuous service." The library celebrated its 275th anniversary in 2018.

The Darby Meeting or Darby Friends Meeting House is located in Darby, Pennsylvania. The first recorded minutes of the meeting are dated July 2, 1684, not long after William Penn landed in nearby Chester to establish the colony of Pennsylvania. The first Friends meeting house in Darby was a log cabin built in 1687. The third and present building was built in 1805. It was used during the Revolutionary War by Continental soldiers. During the War of 1812, it was used by the U. S. Army as a hospital.The 2+1⁄2-story building follows the Quaker tradition of simple and solid buildings. Its design is similar to that of the Horsham Friends Meeting House with separate entrances for men and women. Its walls are coursed fieldstone with stuccoed gables at each end. Brick fireplaces are also on each end of the interior. A covered porch extends along three sides of the ground floor, with the porch roof supported by simple wooden posts. Wooden posts also support the interior balcony. Most of the benches and other furniture are built of pine, but the floor is oak. Electric lighting and the usual utilities have been added, but otherwise the building retains its original form.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 13, 1978.

Darby is a borough in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. The borough is located along Darby Creek 5 miles (8.0 km) southwest of Center City Philadelphia. The borough of Darby is distinct from the nearby municipality of Darby Township.

Hilldale Park was a ballpark in Darby, Pennsylvania at the northeast corner of Chester and Cedar Avenues. It was the home field of the Hilldale Club professional baseball team which played in the Negro leagues between 1910 and 1932. The ballpark opened in 1914. It had a well-manicured field with a large tree in center-field, whose branches overlooked the field and were considered in play.Hilldale's average attendance at Hilldale Park was 1,844 per-game in 1926 and 1,371 in 1929.The ballpark site now contains retail stores and parking lots.

Darby station is a SEPTA Regional Rail station in Darby, Pennsylvania. It is located on the Northeast Corridor at 4th and Colwyn Streets, and serves the Wilmington/Newark Line. The station sits just southeast from the Darby Transportation Center, a SEPTA bus and trolley terminal that is the terminus of Routes 11 and 13 of the SEPTA Subway–Surface Trolley Lines. There are no connections between the two stations. Darby once had two other railroad stations. One, owned by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (now the Philadelphia Subdivision of CSX), sat at Main and Sixth Streets, where the SEPTA Route 11 trolley crosses today. The other, owned by the Pennsylvania Railroad, stood where the current station stands, and later across the tracks.

Colwyn is a borough in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,546 at the 2010 census.

Yeadon Loop station is a SEPTA trolley stop in Yeadon, Pennsylvania. It serves the SEPTA Subway-Surface Trolley Lines 13. Trolleys arrive at this station from Center City Philadelphia and most of them end their routes here. A small commercial storefront containing two local businesses (a mini mart and a Laundromat) can be found inside the loop. Some trolleys continue from there to nearby Darby, Pennsylvania.

Eden Cemetery is a historic African-American cemetery located in Collingdale, Pennsylvania. It was established June 20, 1902, and is the oldest existing black owned cemetery in the United States. The cemetery covers about 53 acres and contains approximately 93,000 burials.

Curtis Park station is a station along the SEPTA Wilmington/Newark Line and Amtrak's Northeast Corridor. Amtrak does not stop here; the station is only served by SEPTA. The station is officially located at Elmwood Avenue near Calcon Hook Road in Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania. In reality it is located at the dead ends of Oak Avenue, one block east of Calcon Hook Road, and is accessible from Calcon Hook Road from Woodlawn Terrace on the north side of the tracks and Elmwood Avenue from the south side. Curtis Park was originally known as Academy prior to 1948. It was believed to have been named from a local branch of the Holy Child Academy which was once located nearby. The station has been closed and boarded up but still stands as a pair of platformed shelters, dividing Oak Avenue into two halves on either side of the railroad lines while Calcon Hook Road crosses over the lines. The station building was built by or for the Pennsylvania Railroad when the name was changed as the Curtis Publishing Company moved to town.

Upper Darby School District (UDSD) is a large public school district of approximately 12,000 students in Upper Darby Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. It consists of an 8.3-square-mile (21 km2) area including Upper Darby Township, Clifton Heights borough, and Millbourne borough. According to 2009 local census data, it serves a resident population of 90,000. In 2009, the district residents’ per capita income was $20,699, while the median family income was $51,965. In the Commonwealth, the median family income was $49,501 and the United States median family income was $49,445, in 2010.Upper Darby schools serve an increasingly diverse population: 41% of students are White, 42% are African American, 13% are Asian/Pacific Islander, 3% are Hispanic and 1% are other. In 2010, there are 877 Limited English Proficient (LEP) students speaking over 70 languages, including Punjabi, Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Albanian, Greek, and Urdu. Over 350 students also meet the state criteria for immigrant status. In addition, the district annually educates more than 380 students who have refugee status and/or limited formal schooling. In the past seven years, the percentage of students who meet the low-income status set by the Federal Free/Reduced Lunch Program has risen from 23% to almost 50%.

Academy Park High School is a four-year public high school in Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania. It is currently the only high school in the Southeast Delco School District. Academy Park High School formed in fall 1982 and its building opened fall 1984. In the interim, the old Collingdale and Sharon Hill high schools were used as an east and west campus for the new school. The former Darby Township High School was converted into Ashland Middle School. Portions of the old Collingdale High School still stand, serving as the town’s borough hall and a municipal court, while the old Sharon Hill High School was demolished. Though the building is gone, the school’s former football field serves as home to the Academy Park Knights. Academy Park’s first principal, Agnes M. Paterson, was an active supporter of the school’s activities and students. She died unexpectedly in spring 1987 after attending a performance of the school district’s annual spring musical. The school’s auditorium has been named in her honor.

Holy Cross Cemetery is an active cemetery owned by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia located in Yeadon, Pennsylvania. Established in 1890, Holy Cross was operated by the Archdiocese until 2014 when it turned over the care of its 13 cemeteries to StoneMor Inc.Holy Cross was one of the busiest cemeteries in the Philadelphia region during the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918, requiring the employ of over 100 seminarians to bury the dead.
