Goodwinslow, also known as Chapman House, is a historic house in Raleigh, Tennessee. It was built from 1875 to 1900 for William Washington Goodwin. It remained in the Goodwin-Chapman family in the 1970s, and owners and residents included Eben Eveleth Winslow and Anne Goodwin Winslow.The house was designed to resemble an Italian villa. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since December 6, 1979.

North Memphis is one of the five defined districts of Memphis, Tennessee. It includes smaller neighborhoods such as Klondike, New Chicago, Douglass, Hyde Park, Hollywood, Nutbush, Binghampton, Smokey City, Scutterfeld, Frayser, and Raleigh.

Raleigh Springs Civic Center is a 65 multi-acre civic center that is located in Memphis, Tennessee, United States. The property is owned by the Memphis City Council, and was constructed on the site of the former Raleigh Springs Mall.

The Raleigh Springs Mall was an enclosed shopping mall serving the city of Memphis, Tennessee, United States. The site is located on the north side of Memphis, on Austin Peay Hwy. just north of Interstate 40. It began construction in 1969 and opened two years later on August 11, 1971 as one of the city's first two shopping malls (the other being Southland Mall), owned and managed by the Edward J. DeBartolo corporation. The Raleigh Springs Mall originally featured about seventy stores and later featured a twelve-screen multiplex, with four anchor stores, formerly occupied by Sears, JCPenney, Goldsmith's and Dillard's. The theater closed in December 2011, Sears closed in April 2011, and the other three anchors closed in 2003. The mall property was won by the City of Memphis in multiple court challenges in favor to build a city Civic Center. The mall closed with 3 business still operating, City Trends, World Diamond Center, and a church.

Craigmont High School is a public high school (grades 9–12) located in Memphis, Tennessee, in the Raleigh community. It was part of the Memphis City Schools district before consolidation with the Shelby County Schools district, beginning with the 2013-14 school year. It is home to the city's only International Studies Program. The school first opened in 1974 for only 7th through 10th grade students, but each subsequent year, added a grade higher. The first graduating class was the class of 1976. In 2001, the 7th and 8th grade students, along with the 6th grade students from Brownsville Road Optional Elementary School, formed the new Craigmont Middle School at the opposite end of the same block. This was done both to help overcrowding and to reduce the extreme age and maturity gaps present in a single building. Before the physical split between junior and senior high schools, junior high students (those in grades 7, 8, & 9) remain relegated to the north end of the building for classes while those senior high students (grades 10, 11, & 12) attended the majority of their classes in the south end of the school building. Beginning with the 1991-1992 school year, students from grade 9 would become a part of the senior high section of the building. Former principal, Dr. Ada Jane Walters, would go on to become the Tennessee State Commissioner of Education.

WMQM is an American Christian radio station in Lakeland, Tennessee (Memphis broadcast market), broadcasting with 50,000 watts day and 35 watts night on 1600 AM. WMQM is a sister station to shortwave radio station WWCR. WMQM is owned and operated by F. W. Robbert Broadcasting, Inc.

Egypt is an American populated place in Shelby County, Tennessee at 35.2428656°N 89.9253652°W / 35.2428656; -89.9253652. Its elevation is 299 feet (91 m). Joseph B. Adkison, a recipient of the Medal of Honor for his actions in World War I, was from Egypt.

Memphis National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery located in the Nutbush neighborhood in northeast Memphis, Tennessee. Administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, it encompasses 44.2 acres (17.9 ha), and as of the end of 2007, had 42,184 interments.Several Civil War battlefield cemeteries were transferred to the Memphis National Cemetery after the war.

Kingsbury High School, also known as Kingsbury Middle/High School, is a public high school in Memphis, Tennessee and a part of Shelby County Schools. It was previously in Memphis City Schools. In 2018 the SCS administration suspended principal Terry Ross, accusing him of misconduct. Ross was previously principal of Bennett High School in Buffalo, New York.

Shelby County is the westernmost county in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 929,744. It is the largest of the state's 95 counties, both in terms of population and geographic area. Its county seat is Memphis, a port on the Mississippi River and the second most populous city in Tennessee. The county was named for Governor Isaac Shelby (1750–1826) of Kentucky. It is one of only two remaining counties in Tennessee with a majority African American population, along with Haywood County. Shelby County is part of the Memphis, TN–MS–AR Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is bordered on the west by the Mississippi River. Located within the Mississippi Delta, the county was developed as a center of cotton plantations in the antebellum era, and cotton continued as an important commodity crop well into the 20th century. The economy has become more diversified.

Nutbush is a long-standing neighborhood in northeastern Memphis, Tennessee, United States. The area has since expanded, yet it remains relatively small with modestly sized houses.

Douglass High School is a public high school (grades 9-12) in Memphis, United States, Tennessee, operated in the Shelby County Schools. Located in the African American Douglass neighborhood in North Memphis, it is named for Frederick Douglass, a 19th-century abolitionist.The original Douglass High School was built in 1938. It burned to the ground and was replaced by a new building in 1946. The school opened in 1946 in the Shelby County Schools district and operated in the original Frederick Douglass High School building until 1981 when it closed. Closure occurred after cross-town busing for desegregation caused enrollment to plummet as African American students were bused out of the neighborhood, but few white students reciprocated by attending Douglass. Subsequently, the school district used the building for storage, and it fell into a state of disrepair. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998, but was torn down in 2006 to be replaced by a new building.The current building was started in 2006 and the new Douglass High School opened to students in fall 2008. The new Douglass School opened for the 2008-09 school year, with expected enrollment of at least 800 students. The mascot is the Red Devil and colors are maroon, red and white. Douglass High School has an active alumni association with more than 500 members in seven chapters across the United States. The association raises funds for scholarships and other purposes, and its member alumni lobbied public officials to reopen the school. A parade was held to commemorate the demolition of the building.
