West Ashley High School is the only public high school located in the West Ashley area in Charleston, South Carolina, United States. It was created in 2000, when the Charleston County School District merged Middleton High School and Saint Andrews High School. It is a part of St. Andrews Constituent District #10.

West Ashley Park is the largest municipal park in Charleston, South Carolina. It is located in the West Ashley area of the city. The city originally bought a 99.8-acre parcel, including a lake created from an old phosphate mine, in 1985. In 1997, a neighboring property owner, Ross Development Corp., offered to deed the city six adjoining parcels in exchange for the city's constructing a road from the Glenn McConnell Parkway to the park. The estimated cost of the road was $421,100, and the appraised value of the new 161 acres being offered (a 95-acre park addition and a 66-acre wetland preserve) was $429,590.Work on the park began in 1998 after the city was permitted to remove several large trees at the site. In 1998, Anson Construction Co. was awarded a $2.3 million contract for the park's initial development.The park opened on April 8, 2000 to the public, but progress on new features at the park continued. By 2001, the park included four baseball fields and four soccer fields. Bicycle and pedestrian trails crisscrossed the property down to Church Creek. Although the public had been given access to the park as features were added, the formal opening of the park did not occur until 2001.On Sundays adult recreation soccer games are held at West Ashley Park during both the Spring and the Fall seasons of the CSL. In 2007, a disc golf course was planned, the only free course within an hour of Charleston.

West Ashley, or more formally, west of the Ashley, is one of the six distinct areas of the city proper of Charleston, South Carolina. As of July 2022, its estimated population was 83,996. Its name is derived from the fact that the land is west of the Ashley River.

Audubon Swamp Garden is a 60-acre (24 ha) cypress and tupelo swamp on the grounds of Magnolia Plantation near Charleston, South Carolina, United States. At one time, the swamp served as a reservoir for the plantation's rice cultivation. The swamp garden includes native flora and non-native, exotic plantings and is home to herons, ibis, turtles, otters, alligators, and other wildlife. The swamp garden is named for ornithologist and artist John James Audubon, who visited the plantation before the Civil War and is said to have collected waterfowl specimens there as models for his paintings. Director Wes Craven made use of the site while filming the 1982 horror film Swamp Thing. The site also served as inspiration for Shrek's swamp.

Drayton Hall is an 18th-century plantation located on the Ashley River about 15 miles (24 km) northwest of Charleston, South Carolina, and directly across the Ashley River from North Charleston, west of the Ashley in the Lowcountry. An example of Palladian architecture in North America and the only plantation house on the Ashley River to survive intact through both the Revolutionary and Civil wars, it is a National Historic Landmark.

Magnolia Plantation and Gardens (464 acres, 187.77 hectares) is a historic house with gardens located on the Ashley River at 3550 Ashley River Road west of Ashley, Charleston County, South Carolina. It is one of the oldest plantations in the South, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Magnolia Plantation is located near Charleston and directly across the Ashley River from North Charleston. The house and gardens are open daily; an admission fee is charged. The plantation dates to 1676, when Thomas and Ann Drayton (née Anna Fox) built a house and small formal garden on the site. (The plantation remains under the control of the Drayton family after 15 generations.) Some of the enslaved people who were forced to work at the house were brought by the Draytons from Barbados in the 1670s. The historic Drayton Hall was built in 1738 by enslaved laborers for John Drayton, grandfather of judge John Drayton II, on an adjoining property. Magnolia was originally a rice plantation, with extensive earthworks of dams and dikes built in fields along the river for irrigating land for rice cultivation. African enslaved people from rice-growing regions created the works. As time went on, these enslaved people developed a creolized Gullah language and vibrant culture, strongly influenced by their West African cultures. They have retained many combined cultural elements from West Africa to this day in what is known as the Gullah Heritage Corridor of the Lowcountry and Sea Islands of the Carolinas and Georgia.

Old St. Andrew's Parish Church is a historic church in Charleston, South Carolina. It is the oldest surviving church building in South Carolina. The parish was one of ten Anglican churches established by South Carolina's Church Act of 1706, and the original church was built the same year. It was expanded to its current cruciform plan in 1723. The church was disused from 1891 to 1948, since which it has undergone steady restoration. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. In 2013, the parish left the Episcopal Church and joined what subsequently became the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina, but in 2022 the church building was ordered to be returned to the Episcopal Church by the Supreme Court of South Carolina. On 17 August 2022, the South Carolina Supreme Court affirmed the property rights of six parishes, including Old St. Andrew's, of the Anglican Diocese of South Carolina, who will be able to keep them because of this decision.

The John F. Limehouse Memorial Bridge, located about 15 miles (24 km) west of downtown Charleston, South Carolina, was completed in 2003. It replaced an obsolete low-level swing bridge over the Stono River. The current bridge, which crosses a channel between Johns Island and St. Andrews Parish, an area generally called West Ashley, was completed under a partnership between the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) and the United States Coast Guard.

Battery Wilkes is a historic artillery battery located at West Ashley, Charleston, South Carolina. It was built in 1862, as a part of the western exterior defense line. It is a small earthen redoubt has a 10-foot-high parapet wall and a 15-foot-high powder magazine.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Unnamed Battery is an historic artillery battery located at West Ashley, Charleston, South Carolina. It was built in 1862, to protect the exterior western lines running from the Stono River on the south to the Ashley River at Bee's Ferry. It has emplacements for two guns. It measures approximately 160 feet by 160 feet with a 10-foot parapet and a 15-foot powder magazine.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
